The file titled Mp1 Type 1 Manual is a 58-page Gulmay Ltd MP1 Technical Manual, apparently dated 14 July 2003. It documents a microprocessor-controlled control panel for Gulmay X-ray generators and compatible X-ray tubes—not a standalone vacuum-tube device or a general printed-circuit-board handbook. The available copy is hosted as an online mirror at PDFCoffee, so it should be treated as an archival reference rather than a confirmed, current, controlled service document.
The MP-1 sits between the operator and the rest of an X-ray system. It exchanges signals with a generator, tube, laboratory I/O box, cooling circuits, safety interlocks, warning lamps and, optionally, RS-232 equipment. Its settings and limits depend on the installed generator, tube, EPROM data and board revision.
What the Gulmay MP-1 is
The MP-1 is a rack-style X-ray-generator control panel made by Gulmay Ltd. It provides the user interface, program selection, monitoring and interface logic needed to operate a particular generator-and-tube combination. The X-ray tube, high-voltage generator, cooling equipment and external safety system remain separate hardware.
A tube-personality EPROM on the panel stores application data such as operating-limit tables, focal-spot information and automatic warm-up programs. CPU-board switch SW1 selects the intended tube and generator combination. Consequently, a panel configured for one installation cannot be assumed suitable for another simply because the connectors look similar.

PCB assemblies
- I/O PCB: protected 24-V interface circuitry for laboratory I/O, generator and RS-232 links.
- CPU PCB: signal processing, program logic and display-board interface.
- Display PCB: LED displays and status indicators; earlier arrangements also placed the keyboard here.
- PSU PCB: rectification, smoothing and regulation for +24 V, +12 V and +5 V rails.
- Later keyboard arrangement: some units split the former display/keyboard functions between a Display PCB and a separate Keyboard PCB.
Front-panel controls and displays
The keyed switch has three functional positions: no power, mains on, and HT-on enable. “HT” refers to the high-voltage X-ray-generation circuit, not merely a low-voltage control supply.
The panel also includes illuminated X-RAY ON and X-RAY OFF push buttons, MAINS ON, SAFETY and PREWARN indicators, a focus-selection switch, and numeric keypad/function keys. The kV and mA readouts are three-digit 13-mm LED displays; the final mA digit represents tenths. The documented PREWARN period is adjustable up to 30 seconds. Depending on software options, timing may use 0.1-minute or one-second resolution, with a selectable one-second clock reaching 9 minutes 59 seconds.
Program ranges and operating modes
The program numbering is specific to this MP-1 manual, not a universal X-ray standard.
| Program range | Documented mode |
|---|---|
| 1xx | Warm-up programs |
| 2xx | Radiographic programs |
| 3xx | Additional radiographic programs |
| 4xx | Fluoroscopy programs |
| 5xx | Additional fluoroscopy programs |
| 6xx | Auto-watt programs |
| 7xx | Fluoroscopy/auto-watt programs |
| 8xx | RS-232 mode |
| 9xx | Engineering test modes |
Tube and generator configuration
The tube-personality EPROM, identified in the manual as MP1 T Rev xx, supplies operating ranges, focal-spot data, warm-up tables and tube/generator application information. SW1 on the CPU PCB selects the applicable combination. Before using a replacement panel or EPROM, identify the generator model, tube model, focal spots, cooling system, EPROM revisions and switch setting. Displayed kV or mA is a control-system value; it is not automatically an independently verified measurement of tube output.

- It is super high frequency with International advanced single-ended solid insulation technology, generating more stabler and clearer images at one time.
- It matches a variety of imaging media, such as film, fluorescent plate, flat panel detector, etc.
- Technical Data of this dental X ray machine: Inverter frequency>400kHz, Tube voltage: 60KV, Tube current: 2mA. Exposure time: 0.01S~2S. Radiation leakage: <0.25mGy/h@1m. Number of photos taken after a full charge >300 times.
- Two sizes digital intraoral sensors (imaging area: 2.1*2.1c㎡, 2.5*3c㎡) are optional. The XR-A dental X Ray machine is suitable for all the standard digital intraoral sensors. But if you have no intraoral sensors at hand. To use the detntal X ray machine to take dental graphics, you need to buy our intraoral sensor together with the XR-A dental X Ray.
Interface and safety circuits
The I/O description includes inputs for two safety interlocks, cooler temperature, cooler flow and high-voltage contactor status. Optoisolators, clamps, buffers and relay or solid-state relay stages process these signals. The panel also drives external warning lamps and audible-warning functions.
Safety therefore depends on the complete installation and its wiring. A lit front-panel indicator cannot prove that shielding, door interlocks, cooling, contactor behavior or warning circuits are correct. The suggested LAB I/O BOX circuit is an example interface, not a complete determination of applicable electrical, radiation or workplace requirements.
Installation, calibration and engineering functions
The manual expects the generator and tube to be installed to their manufacturers’ instructions, with the MP-1 bonded to a suitable protective earth and connected to the correct generator and interface unit. It documents an initial calibration involving CPU-board SW1, engineering mode, a digital voltmeter, I/O-board test points TP13 and TP11, program 900, focus selection and ENTER confirmation. Engineering program 949 is described for entering a system-voltage limit, with 150 shown as an example.
These are service procedures for trained personnel working under electrical and radiation-safety controls. They are not a safe commissioning checklist for an unknown installation. Never defeat an interlock or change an engineering value merely to clear a fault.

Error codes and fault diagnosis
Examples identified in the manual include:
- E1: illegal program entered.
- E2: processor divide-by-zero condition; power cycling is required to reset it.
- E3: processor divide-overflow condition; power cycling is required to reset it.
- E4: kV feedback exceeds demand by approximately 3% or three steps.
The document also records later diagnostic additions, including errors 54–62. These examples should not be treated as a complete error table without checking the full, legible PDF and its revision history. Record the exact code, program, mode and system state before making changes.

The manual includes software-EPROM suffix options and revision notes. One note describes revision 4.8 changing a bipolar-mode discharge threshold on CP450 units with long interface cables; another records added diagnostic errors. Hardware may also have the earlier combined display/keyboard arrangement or the later split boards. Identify hardware, program EPROM, tube-personality EPROM, generator model and drawing revision before substituting boards or interpreting symptoms.
How to evaluate a downloaded copy
- Photograph the panel, rear connectors, serial plate and board markings.
- Record the generator, tube, focal spots and cooling equipment.
- Verify the CPU-board SW1 setting and both EPROM revision markings.
- Check that the PDF contains the interconnection drawings, PCB descriptions, appendices and revision history; do not infer missing pinouts.
- Compare drawing numbers and connector layouts with the installed wiring.
- Seek an original Gulmay document or verified service archive when provenance, page quality or completeness is uncertain.
When this manual is—and is not—enough
It is useful when the equipment is demonstrably a Gulmay MP-1, the generator/tube pairing is known, revisions match and the reader is qualified to service X-ray equipment. It is not a substitute for current generator or tube manuals, shielding calculations, regulatory approval, electrical testing, radiation surveys or manufacturer service authorization. A 2003 document cannot by itself prove present-day compliance.
