Grand Theft Auto V was briefly demonstrated running in a browser, but it was an unofficial project—not a Rockstar Games browser release—and a report updated on October 6, 2026, said its link no longer loaded the game. The demonstration was shown in Google Chrome on an Apple M3 Pro; how the project made the game run remains unconfirmed.
What was demonstrated
VideoCardz reported on October 6, 2026, that Pixel Gamer 4K (@4k_isn) had shown GTA V gameplay in Chrome on an Apple M3 Pro. The post was captioned, “Here I am playing GTA 5 on chrome”. The report says the browser initially downloaded around 700 MB, with more assets potentially downloaded during play; that figure is reported, not an independently measured download size.

Is GTA V playable in a browser now?
Not based on the cited report: VideoCardz said it could not reliably load the site and updated its story to say the link no longer loaded the game. That is a status report from October 6, 2026, not a guarantee about the site’s availability at a later date. The project was unofficial and should not be mistaken for a browser version released by Rockstar Games.

How did the browser project work?
The technical method has not been established. VideoCardz could not confirm whether the game executable was recompiled, run through a compatibility layer, or modified in another way. It also could not establish whether rendering used WebGL or WebGPU. Those technologies are possibilities raised by the report, not confirmed details of this project.
As a result, the demonstration alone does not verify how much of the game was running in the browser, what hardware or browser features were required, or whether the approach could be reproduced by other players.

What can you use to play instead?
The report points to installing the standard PC version as the conventional alternative. It does not verify current platform availability, prices, or marketplace listings, so check the relevant official store for current options.
