Because Lucia is associated with neighboring Liberty City, the reference creates a plausible theory that the pair crossed paths before the events of the new game. It does not, however, confirm that backstory.
What the North Fort Law reference is
In a trailer scene showing Jason and Lucia on a car, Jason’s shirt carries wording identified as a combat-training school in North Fort Law. North Fort Law is a district in New Guernsey, the setting associated with the first Grand Theft Auto (1997).

The detail was highlighted by a KhanList report syndicated by TheGamer on October 17, 2026. Its description says: “If you look closely at Jason’s shirt, you can see that it’s from a combat training school in North Fort Law, which is a district from the original GTA’s New Guernsey.”
That makes the shirt a deliberate-looking franchise callback, but the image alone does not establish whether Jason attended the school, bought the shirt elsewhere, or has any personal connection to North Fort Law.

Why it could connect Jason and Lucia
Jason’s reported Army background
Current launch-trailer coverage expands on Jason’s Army history. If he trained in or around New Guernsey during that period, North Fort Law could place him in the same broad region before the game begins. That is an inference from the shirt and his reported background, not a confirmed biography.
Lucia’s Liberty City origin
Lucia is associated with Liberty City, which the report places next to New Guernsey geographically. The neighboring locations provide the theory’s second link: Jason may have spent time near Lucia’s home region before either character became involved in the main story.

Neither the trailer nor an official Rockstar lore statement currently says that Lucia grew up in a specific Liberty City neighborhood, that Jason lived in New Guernsey, or that the two met there. The geography makes the idea possible; it does not prove it.

| Interpretation | Evidence strength | What it would mean |
|---|---|---|
| North Fort Law is an original-GTA reference | Visible shirt wording and its reported connection to New Guernsey | A confirmed-looking Easter egg linking GTA 6 to the 1997 game’s setting |
| Jason trained in New Guernsey | Inferred from the shirt and his reported Army period | Jason may have spent time in the region before the story |
| Jason and Lucia met before GTA 6 | Speculative; no cited narrative text confirms it | A possible shared history that could add emotional context to their partnership |
| The shirt is only a callback | Fully compatible with the visible evidence | The reference may reward longtime fans without changing either character’s biography |
The report itself draws the line clearly: “While it’s all just speculation right now, it does seem likely that Jason and Lucia could have met before Jason’s time in the army.” “Likely” in that sentence describes a theory, not an established plot fact.

Does it change how GTA 6’s relationship works?
Marketing presents Jason and Lucia as the central criminal partnership, rather than as two protagonists whose stories merely intersect. Secondary preview reporting also says players can remain a couple or continue as accomplices, with the level of relationship investment affecting how events play out. Those relationship details come from preview coverage and should be treated as provisional until Rockstar publishes final documentation.
If the North Fort Law clue represents a genuine pre-game meeting, it could explain why the pair trust each other, argue with unusual familiarity, or remain connected despite conflicting goals. It could also be a deliberately ambiguous detail: a shared regional history that players interpret differently while the game leaves the exact first meeting unstated.

Why the Easter egg matters to series history
New Guernsey and North Fort Law are not among the most prominent modern GTA locations, so using the name on clothing gives the reference a different function from a headline city appearance. It rewards players who remember the original map while keeping the clue unobtrusive for newcomers.
The reference also fits GTA 6’s broader positioning. The game is being marketed around a tightly linked duo, and a small piece of clothing can suggest that their connection began before the opening mission. At the same time, the lack of explicit dialogue preserves uncertainty and prevents the Easter egg from functioning as a canon biography.

GTA 6 release information currently reported
Current secondary coverage lists Grand Theft Auto VI for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with a reported November 19, 2026 release date. Retailer listings and preorder details can change, so those platform and date details should be checked against Rockstar’s final announcement and the relevant store pages.
Bottom line on Jason and Lucia’s possible first meeting
North Fort Law is best read as a meaningful possibility, not a reveal. The shirt visibly references a location from the first GTA; Jason’s reported Army history supplies a reason he might have been there; and Lucia’s Liberty City connection makes an earlier encounter geographically plausible. Until Rockstar confirms the characters’ biographies or shows their first meeting, the most accurate conclusion is that GTA 6 is inviting players to speculate about a shared past.
