Yes. Rockstar says the new Grand Theft Auto VI Extended Look was captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5. The statement names PS5, not PS5 Pro, so there is no official evidence that a PS5 Pro recorded the trailer. Sony separately lists PS5 Pro as a supported platform for the game, but that is a release listing rather than confirmation of the trailer hardware.
What Rockstar actually confirmed
Rockstar’s official Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look page describes the video as “Captured entirely from in-game footage on the PlayStation 5.” That is the clearest available answer to questions such as “Was the new GTA 6 trailer captured on a base PS5?” and “What console was the extended look recorded on?”

Because Rockstar identifies PlayStation 5 without mentioning the Pro model, the footage should be treated as PS5-captured footage. “Base PS5” is a useful shorthand for the standard console, although Rockstar’s wording itself simply says PlayStation 5 rather than specifying a retail model number or hardware revision.
Does that mean GTA 6 runs on a regular PS5?
It proves that Rockstar produced this Extended Look from in-game footage captured on PS5 hardware. It does not, by itself, publish the game’s final retail performance targets. The cited announcements do not give a resolution, frame-rate target, graphics-mode breakdown or performance benchmark for the shipped game.

Trailer capture and retail specifications are separate questions. Developers can choose capture settings, editing, camera work and output formats for a promotional video. Therefore, the trailer confirms the development build could generate the shown scenes on PS5, while leaving the final balance between image quality and performance unannounced.
Is the footage PS5 Pro?
No official source cited for the Extended Look identifies PS5 Pro as its capture hardware. Sony’s game page lists Grand Theft Auto VI for both PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro, but that entry establishes platform support, not the console used to record Rockstar’s video.

- Platform- Sony Playstation 1
That distinction matters because a PS5 Pro listing can coexist with a trailer captured on the standard PS5. Until Rockstar or Sony publishes a specific enhancement description, it is not accurate to infer that the trailer uses Pro-only effects, a higher resolution or a particular frame rate.

Release and announcement timeline
- May 6, 2025: Rockstar’s Extended Look page labels Trailer 2 with this date and includes the PS5 in-game capture wording.
- August 6, 2026: Rockstar Newswire announced the Extended Look distribution plan and reiterated the November 19, 2026 launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
- November 19, 2026: Sony’s current game listing gives this release date for PS5 and PS5 Pro.
What remains unknown about PS5 Pro enhancements
The available official material does not say whether the Pro version will offer a higher-resolution mode, steadier frame rate, enhanced ray tracing, improved image reconstruction or another hardware-specific feature. It also does not state whether the standard PS5 and PS5 Pro will use identical graphics modes.
Those details should be reported only when Rockstar or Sony publishes them. A trailer’s visual quality cannot establish a retail resolution or frame rate, and the fact that a game supports PS5 Pro cannot establish a performance advantage.

If you already own a PS5
The capture statement provides direct evidence that Rockstar created the Extended Look on PS5 hardware. It does not indicate that a Pro console is required to play the game. Final system requirements and performance modes have not been detailed in the cited announcements.

If you are considering a PS5 Pro
PS5 Pro is officially listed as a supported platform, but the cited sources do not quantify what improvements it will deliver. A purchase decision based specifically on GTA 6 performance should wait for published enhancement details rather than relying on trailer footage.
If you are comparing launch platforms
Rockstar and Take-Two have announced GTA 6 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with the publisher’s announced launch price of US$79.99. The PS5 capture wording addresses how the promotional footage was produced; it is not a claim that the game is exclusive to PS5.
Bottom line on the trailer hardware
Rockstar’s own wording answers the headline: the Extended Look was captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5, and no cited official source says it was captured on PS5 Pro. PS5 Pro is listed as a supported console for the November 19, 2026 release, but its GTA 6 enhancements, resolution and frame-rate behavior have not been announced.
