Rockstar writers say Jason and Lucia are designed as imperfect people who can be right or wrong, learn from one another and pursue wants of their own. In excerpts attributed to LOVE Magazine Issue 27, Rockstar Games writer Elizabeth Gauvey-Kern described the qualities the team wanted in both protagonists: “We wanted both protagonists to be vulnerable, tough, flawed, right sometimes, wrong sometimes, able to learn from each other. That’s what we felt made them authentic, and a great team.” The quotation is reproduced in GamingBolt’s October 2, 2026 coverage and GTA.com.ua’s coverage.

Alexa D’Agostino, another Rockstar writer, made the separate observation behind the “undeniably real” phrase: “When you are focusing on writing a fully realised person with their own wants, you’re going to get something perfectly imperfect—with clichés, but also undeniably real.” The reports attribute this statement to D’Agostino; it is not part of Gauvey-Kern’s quotation.

Why imperfection can make a character feel believable
The two comments describe related but distinct parts of the writing approach. Gauvey-Kern emphasizes contradictions and change: a protagonist can be capable and vulnerable, make good or bad calls, and learn from a partner. D’Agostino points to independent motives—wants that belong to the character—as a route to a person who feels fully realized, even if some traits are familiar or clichéd.

Together, the remarks suggest Rockstar is aiming for a relationship between two imperfect people rather than two uniformly competent heroes. That is an interpretation of the writers’ stated intent, not confirmation of how the finished game will handle every decision or scene.
What is known about their story
Rockstar’s official Grand Theft Auto VI page says Jason and Lucia are caught in a criminal conspiracy across Leonida and are forced to rely on each other. That premise supports the idea that their relationship matters to the story, but it does not independently establish that they will feel realistic to players.

GamingBolt’s account of the magazine excerpts also says senior vice president of narrative Rupert Humphries characterized Lucia as wanting a better life and not allowing obstacles to stop her, and described her crime-spree trajectory as hopeful and naïve. Those descriptions are reported by that coverage, rather than verified here against the magazine’s original pages.

Humphries’ comments, as reproduced by GTA.com.ua, add context to the contrast between character writing and setting. He said: “If you are going to put all this effort into creating a version of today’s world, it has to be more over the top, more insane, more in your face. Otherwise, you could just go outside and live in the real world.” He also said the game places “a big focus on not just holding up a mirror, but on making everything satirical, larger than life, and more grotesque.”

That distinction matters: the writers’ claim is about making the protagonists feel like people with motives and flaws, not about presenting Leonida as a realistic depiction of everyday life. Rockstar currently lists Grand Theft Auto VI for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with a release date of November 19, 2026, on its official game page. The official store listing describes the physical version as code-in-box: it includes a download code, not a disc.
