Rockstar game writer Alexa D’Agostino says Lucia can stand alongside Grand Theft Auto IV’s Niko Bellic and Red Dead Redemption 2’s Arthur Morgan because she is being written as a fully realised person with her own wants and flaws. It is a statement of creative intent—not a verdict from players or critics, who have yet to experience the released game.
What Rockstar said about Lucia
D’Agostino made the comparison in LOVE Magazine’s interview about Grand Theft Auto VI. “When you are focusing on writing a fully realised person with their own wants, you’re going to get something perfectly imperfect—with clichés, but also undeniably real. That’s how you get a woman that can stand tall next to the likes of Arthur Morgan and Niko Bellic,” she said. Read the interview at LOVE Magazine.

The phrase “stand tall” is D’Agostino’s expression of confidence in the character the writing team is creating. It does not establish that Lucia is already as popular, acclaimed, or memorable as Arthur or Niko. Insider Gaming’s October 5, 2026 report attributes the comparison to the interview.
Why D’Agostino related to Lucia
D’Agostino said she drew on women she knew, particularly her mother, an immigrant who grew up in Newark, New Jersey, near Lucia’s fictional Liberty City hometown. She described her mother as “rowdy, kind, but not to take any shit” and said, “I related a lot to Lucia, and writing her came very naturally to me.”

- Grand Theft Auto VI is a single-player experience.
Her explanation centers on giving Lucia personal wants rather than treating her only as a role in a crime story. In D’Agostino’s view, a character’s imperfections and contradictions can make her feel real; they are part of the basis for the comparison, not proof of how audiences will respond.
Where Lucia fits in GTA 6
Lucia is one of the game’s two central characters, alongside Jason Duval. Rockstar describes them as lovers on the run across Leonida who become entangled in a criminal conspiracy and must rely on one another. The official GTA VI page currently lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S and a November 19, 2026 release date. Platform and release details can change, so consult Rockstar’s page for the latest information.

- Grand Theft Auto III: It all starts in Liberty City. With the revolutionary freedom to go anywhere and jack anyone, Grand Theft Auto III puts the center of the criminal underworld at your fingertips, if you have enough guts to take it.
- Grand Theft Auto: Vice City: Welcome to the 1980s. From the decade of big hair and pastel suits comes the story of one man's rise to the top of the criminal pile.
- Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas: Five years ago, Carl 'CJ' Johnson escaped the haze of Los Santos, San Andreas...a city tearing itself apart with gang trouble, drugs, and corruption.
What the comparison does—and does not—tell players
Arthur Morgan and Niko Bellic are established protagonists from earlier Rockstar games; Lucia’s comparison with them sets a high creative ambition. But a writer’s intention and a player’s judgment are different things. The interview offers no audience poll, review consensus, or measured ranking that establishes Lucia’s standing against either character.
For now, the meaningful takeaway is how D’Agostino says the team approached Lucia: as an imperfect person with wants and a perspective grounded, in part, in the women she knew. Whether that characterization earns Lucia a place alongside Arthur and Niko is a question players can answer only after experiencing the game.
