There are no official GTA VI PC system requirements yet. Rockstar has announced Grand Theft Auto VI for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with a launch date of November 19, 2026. Rockstar’s current platform information does not list a PC edition, so there is no confirmed CPU, graphics card, RAM, VRAM, storage, operating-system, resolution or frame-rate target to use for a PC upgrade.
That means any PC requirements table circulating before Rockstar publishes PC information is an estimate. The useful preparation now is to document your existing hardware, keep the system maintained and wait for Rockstar’s own PC store page or support article before buying a component specifically for GTA VI.

The announced release is a console launch. Rockstar’s October 15, 2026 Newswire statement says: “Grand Theft Auto VI arrives November 19 to PlayStation 5 and XBOX Series X|S.” The same two platforms appear in Rockstar’s current customer-support platform information.

Rockstar has not listed a PC edition in the official platform information checked for this article. It has also not published a PC minimum or recommended specification. The absence of a specification is not a hidden requirement. It is simply information Rockstar has not released. Until that changes, a precise “GTA 6 PC requirements” list would be presented with more confidence than the evidence allows.
Why internet requirement tables are estimates
Unofficial lists often provide a processor, a graphics-card model, a RAM amount and a large storage number. They may look authoritative because they use the familiar minimum-versus-recommended format, but a table is not an official requirement unless Rockstar publishes it or attaches it to an official PC product or support page.
A guessed part can mislead in several ways. A graphics card may have enough raw performance but insufficient VRAM for a particular texture setting. A modern CPU may perform differently from an older chip with a similar core count. Storage capacity does not reveal the installation medium, patch space or whether an SSD is mandatory. A claimed frame rate is meaningless without the resolution, quality preset, upscaling mode and test scene.

Make a complete inventory of your current PC
A hardware inventory turns “Can my PC run it?” into a comparison you can perform when official specifications arrive. Record the exact model rather than a marketing family name; for example, write the full CPU and graphics-card designation shown by Windows.
1. Record the processor and memory
- Press
Ctrl+Shift+Escto open Task Manager. - Select Performance, then CPU. Copy the processor model, base speed and the core/thread information shown there.
- Select Memory and record the installed capacity, memory speed and how many slots are in use.
- Write down whether the computer is a desktop or laptop. A laptop’s power and cooling limits can make two systems with the same nominal chip behave differently.
Do not convert a processor name into a GTA VI verdict. This step only creates a reliable baseline for the eventual Rockstar table.
2. Identify the graphics processor and VRAM
- In Task Manager’s Performance view, select each listed GPU entry and record its full name.
- Note Dedicated GPU memory separately from shared system memory. Dedicated memory is the card’s VRAM; shared memory is borrowed from system RAM and should not be counted as equivalent.
- If the computer has integrated and discrete graphics, record both and note which one your games normally use.
- For a second check, press
Windows+R, enterdxdiag, choose the Display tabs and save the displayed device names and memory fields.
Keep the exact driver model and laptop GPU suffix in your notes. Mobile and desktop versions can carry similar names while having different power limits.
3. Check Windows and architecture
- Open Settings > System > About and record the Windows edition, version and system type.
- Enter
winverin the Start search if you need the complete version and build number. - Record whether Windows is 64-bit. Do not infer future compatibility from the edition name alone; use the operating-system version Rockstar eventually lists.
4. Measure usable storage, not just drive capacity
- Open File Explorer > This PC and record each drive’s total and free space.
- Identify the drive type in Settings > System > Storage > Advanced storage settings > Disks & volumes, or through the manufacturer’s utility. Label each drive as an NVMe SSD, SATA SSD or hard disk only when the system confirms it.
- Note which drive holds your game library and whether it has room for a large installation plus updates.
Do not turn the amount of free space you have today into a guessed GTA VI installation size. Rockstar has not announced that size.

5. Verify the power supply and cooling
- On a desktop, shut it down, disconnect power and read the wattage and model from the power-supply label without opening the sealed power-supply housing.
- For a prebuilt system, check the manufacturer’s specification sheet or service documentation if the label is inaccessible.
- Record the case dimensions, available graphics-card length and power connectors if you may upgrade later.
- Note unusual fan noise, thermal throttling or shutdowns during current games. A new graphics card cannot compensate for inadequate cooling or a failing power supply.
Most laptops do not provide a practical graphics-card upgrade path. For those systems, the inventory is still valuable because it prevents buying desktop parts that cannot be installed.
Use this inventory when Rockstar publishes PC information
Save the inventory as a dated text file or spreadsheet. When Rockstar releases an official PC page, copy its requirements into a second column and compare line by line rather than relying on a single “can run” badge.

A safe comparison sequence
- Confirm that a PC edition and release date are actually stated by Rockstar.
- Copy the minimum and recommended rows exactly, including operating-system and storage notes.
- Compare the CPU, GPU, VRAM and RAM first. A shortfall in one critical component can matter more than excess capacity elsewhere.
- Check storage medium and free space separately. A drive can have enough capacity but still be the wrong type if an SSD is specified.
- Match the target resolution and frame rate to how you intend to play. Requirements without a performance target are incomplete.
- Look for footnotes covering ray tracing, upscaling, launcher software, internet access or a required driver version.
- Only then price an upgrade, using the official requirement as the compatibility reference rather than a retailer’s generic gaming tier.
What to do before any PC announcement
Keep software current, but avoid speculative upgrades
Install normal Windows security updates and graphics-driver updates, and restart after major updates so the system is not carrying a pending reboot. Current software reduces avoidable launch problems, but it does not guarantee GTA VI performance. Do not buy a named GPU, CPU, RAM kit or NVMe drive solely because an unofficial article assigns it to GTA VI.

Maintain the hardware you already own
- Keep adequate free space on the drive that hosts your games and Windows.
- Check that case fans spin correctly and clear dust from filters and vents with the computer powered down.
- Monitor temperatures and clock speeds while playing games you already own. Sudden throttling or crashes are maintenance issues to solve independently of GTA VI.
- Back up important saves and personal files before changing hardware, firmware or operating-system settings.
- Update the motherboard firmware only when the manufacturer’s instructions address a real compatibility, stability or security need; a BIOS update is not a GTA VI requirement.
Upgrade only for a current, measurable need
An upgrade can be sensible today if your existing games are stuttering, your storage is full, your power supply is failing or your system no longer meets the requirements of software you already use. Choose the part for that present problem. Such an upgrade may improve your eventual position, but it should not be described as GTA VI-ready until Rockstar publishes the relevant comparison.

Should you buy a new gaming PC now?
For a GTA VI-only purchase, waiting is the lower-risk decision because the compatibility target is unknown and the announced launch platforms are consoles. Buying a complete PC now means accepting that its CPU, GPU, memory, storage and operating system may not align with a later PC specification.
A new system can still be justified when you have a broader reason: your current computer cannot run the games you play today, it lacks reliable storage, or you need a workstation for school or work. In that case, select a balanced system for those workloads, keep the receipt and warranty information, and do not pay a premium for a retailer’s claim that it is “built for GTA 6” without an official Rockstar requirement to support that wording.

Common mistakes to avoid
Confusing a console launch with a PC release
The November 19 date is official for the announced console platforms. It is not evidence of a simultaneous Windows release. Keep the two questions separate: whether Rockstar announces a PC edition, and what date that edition receives.
Treating a component name as a guarantee
No single GPU or CPU can guarantee performance before the game’s PC build, settings and official targets are published. Even after publication, the requirement will describe a target configuration, not a promise that every system with a similar label behaves identically.
Counting shared memory as VRAM
Windows may display both dedicated and shared GPU memory. Record them separately. Shared memory is borrowed from system RAM and is not interchangeable with the dedicated VRAM figure Rockstar may specify.
Ignoring the rest of the system
A graphics-card swap can expose a weak power supply, poor airflow, an old CPU or a cramped case. Record those constraints before shopping, and compare every field in the eventual requirements table.

Unconfirmed figures such as “150–200 GB” are not Rockstar specifications. Keep enough working space for your existing library and normal updates, but wait for the official installation and free-space figures before purchasing a drive specifically for GTA VI.
What a trustworthy PC announcement should contain
When Rockstar provides PC information, a useful announcement should identify the supported platform, release date and requirements source. The requirements should distinguish minimum from recommended hardware and state the target resolution and frame-rate class. It should also clarify RAM, dedicated VRAM, storage capacity, storage medium, Windows version and any ray-tracing or other feature requirement.
If one of those details is missing, mark that field “not stated” instead of filling it with a familiar number from another game. A retailer listing, forum post or search snippet can point you toward an announcement, but the specification itself should be checked against Rockstar’s page.

- Ignore unofficial GTA VI numbers until Rockstar publishes a PC specification.
- When the specification arrives, compare minimum and recommended rows field by field.
- Buy only the upgrade that solves a confirmed compatibility or performance gap.
