The short answer: Rockstar has confirmed Grand Theft Auto VI for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with launch set for November 19, 2026. There are no official PC requirements, PC release date, install-size figure or guaranteed frame-rate target yet. Rockstar labels PlayStation 5 as the platform on which the game plays best. Anyone buying a boxed copy should also know that it contains a download code, not a game disc.
What hardware is officially supported at launch?
Rockstar’s currently published launch information identifies two console families: PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar Support says players can pre-order the game for those platforms, and the official Grand Theft Auto VI website lists PlayStation 5 as the platform on which the game “Plays Best.” The current release date is Thursday, November 19, 2026, announced by Rockstar Games in a Newswire post dated November 6, 2025.

|---|---|---|
| PlayStation 5 | Confirmed launch platform | Rockstar says the game plays best on PlayStation 5. Extended-look footage was captured entirely from in-game footage on PS5. |
| Xbox Series X | Confirmed launch platform | Included in Rockstar Support’s pre-order platform list. |
| Xbox Series S | Confirmed launch platform | Included in the Xbox Series X|S platform family listed by Rockstar Support. |
| PC | No launch specification or date confirmed | No official CPU, GPU, RAM, operating-system, graphics-API, storage or frame-rate requirement has been published. |
“Plays best on PlayStation 5” is an official qualitative statement, not a promise of a particular resolution, frame rate or graphical feature. It also does not establish that Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S or a future PC version will be inferior in every respect. It is the only explicit platform preference Rockstar has published in the material currently available.
Are GTA 6 PC system requirements available?
No. Rockstar has not published a PC build specification in its cited official pages. That means there is currently no authoritative answer for the minimum or recommended CPU, graphics card, memory, Windows version, graphics API, ray-tracing support, SSD requirement or 60-frames-per-second target.

How to treat hardware lists online
Lists naming a particular GeForce or Radeon card, a Core or Ryzen processor, a fixed RAM amount, or a required SSD are speculation unless Rockstar later publishes those figures. A convincing-looking table is not evidence of an official requirement. Do not buy a graphics card solely because an unofficial article says it will run GTA 6.
The same caution applies to claims that a specific PC will deliver 60 FPS. Until a PC version exists and independent testing can measure it, there is no honest hardware tier that guarantees that result. Even an eventual minimum specification would normally describe an accepted baseline at a stated resolution and quality setting, not a universal performance promise.
What to do if you are deciding whether to upgrade a PC
- Wait for a Rockstar PC announcement before treating any component list as a requirement.
- Record your current processor, graphics card, system memory, operating-system version and available storage.
- Compare those details with Rockstar’s eventual minimum and recommended specifications, including the resolution, quality preset and frame-rate assumptions attached to each tier.
- Check independent benchmarks after release or after a public PC test build exists. Look for tests that identify the game version, driver version, resolution, settings and whether upscaling or frame generation is enabled.
There is no need to reserve a particular PC upgrade budget on the basis of an unverified “GTA 6 requirements” graphic.

Rockstar has not published an official GTA 6 install-size number. No figure such as 150 GB or 200 GB should be presented as fact. The final download size can change between platforms and editions, and a launch patch can require additional temporary space.
The boxed edition still needs a full download
Rockstar Support says the physical version contains a download code and that “A disc will not be included in the box.” In practical terms, the box does not provide game data that can be installed from optical media. You redeem the code through the relevant console account, download the game and retain enough free internal or approved expansion storage for the installation and updates.

Broadband capacity matters as much as disk capacity. A large download can consume a substantial portion of a monthly data allowance, and a slow connection can make a pre-load or launch-day update take many hours. Rockstar’s support documentation says pre-load for redeemed codes begins November 12, 2026, seven days before the November 19 launch. The documentation does not state the download’s size.
How to prepare without guessing the number
- Check free space on the console where you will play, rather than relying on the advertised capacity of the drive.
- Leave additional headroom for updates and the temporary files a console may use while installing.
- Confirm that any expansion device you own is supported for running current-generation games; do not assume that every older USB drive can run the title.
- Plan a wired or otherwise stable connection if your home network is unreliable.
- Start the pre-load as soon as your store account makes it available on November 12 if you have redeemed an eligible code.
Those are sensible preparations, not a substitute for the eventual official install-size figure. Recheck Rockstar Support and your console storefront when pre-load opens because the displayed download and required free-space values will be more useful than predictions made months earlier.
Will GTA 6 run at 60 FPS?
Rockstar has not guaranteed a frame-rate mode for either console. The official material confirms the PS5 source of the extended-look footage, but it does not state the footage’s output resolution, frame rate or graphics settings.
Tom’s Hardware reported that launch-console play is expected to be capped at 30 FPS and that Rockstar had not promised a performance mode. That is secondary reporting, not a Rockstar specification. It should be read as an expectation, not as a confirmed universal rule for every scene, patch or platform.
Why a 60-FPS claim would need qualification
- A mode labelled “performance” could use a lower internal resolution, dynamic resolution or reduced effects.
- A target is not the same as a locked frame rate; demanding scenes can still produce dips.
- Different console models can receive different settings, and a later patch can change the available modes.
- Captured footage does not by itself disclose the final player-facing settings.
Until Rockstar publishes a mode table or reviewers measure the retail build, avoid buying a console on the assumption that GTA 6 will offer a locked 60 FPS.

Do you need a PS5 Pro or Xbox Series X?
No special “GTA 6” console requirement has been announced. The confirmed launch families are PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, so a standard console in those families is the relevant eligibility question. Rockstar has not published a requirement for a premium or upgraded model, nor has it specified a resolution or frame-rate advantage for one console over another.
When PlayStation 5 is the straightforward choice
Choose PS5 if you want to follow Rockstar’s own “Plays Best on PlayStation 5” positioning, already use the PlayStation ecosystem, or prefer its controller and account library. The statement is a qualitative recommendation; it does not establish the exact visual settings or performance difference.
When Xbox Series X|S makes sense
Xbox Series X|S is an officially supported launch family. It can be the practical choice if your existing purchases, friends, subscriptions or accessories are on Xbox. The available evidence does not justify claiming that Series X or Series S will run a particular resolution or frame rate, so make the decision on ecosystem, storage, expansion options, price and availability rather than an invented benchmark.
How to compare the consoles responsibly
| Decision factor | What is known | What remains unknown |
|---|---|---|
| Eligibility | PS5 and Xbox Series X|S are confirmed launch platforms. | No other launch platform is identified in the official sources reviewed. |
| Rockstar’s preference | The official site says the game plays best on PS5. | No quantified advantage, resolution or frame-rate figure is given. |
| Storage | Every buyer needs free console space because the boxed edition is a download code. | The install-size and update-size figures are not published. |
| Expansion | Use the storage expansion options approved for the console you select. | GTA 6-specific expansion compatibility and capacity guidance are not stated. |
| Price and availability | These vary by region, retailer and date. | No GTA 6-specific hardware price or bundle should be assumed. |
Is GTA 6 coming to PC, and when?
A PC version has not been announced in the official sources covered here, so there is no confirmed PC release date. The launch information names PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only. It is reasonable to revisit the question after Rockstar makes a formal PC announcement, but it is not accurate to convert general expectations about a future port into a date or specification.
When a PC announcement does arrive, treat it as a new information point. Confirm the supported Windows edition, processor and graphics tiers, system memory, storage type, graphics API, required online services and any stated frame-rate or resolution targets. Requirements can differ from the console build and can change between announcement, pre-load and release.

Because Rockstar says the physical package contains a download code and no disc, “physical” describes the way the code is sold, not an offline installation method. You need an internet connection to redeem and download it, an account for the applicable console store, and enough storage for the complete installation.
Before redeeming a code
- Check that the code’s region matches your console account; retailer terms and regional activation rules can apply.
- Confirm that the code is for the platform you own, since a PlayStation code will not install an Xbox version.
- Check free storage and network conditions before beginning redemption.
- Keep the code and purchase record until the game is attached to the correct account.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Mistake: treating a leaked PC table as official
Fix: look for a Rockstar-published requirements page or support article. Until one exists, label every exact PC component list as unconfirmed.
Mistake: reserving a guessed install size
Fix: wait for the storefront’s actual download and free-space requirement. Keep sensible headroom, but do not repeat an unverified gigabyte number.
Mistake: assuming a trailer proves 60 FPS
Fix: distinguish captured footage from a documented player mode. Use the 30-FPS expectation only as Tom’s Hardware’s secondary report, not as a Rockstar guarantee.

Mistake: buying a disc drive or disc edition for offline installation
Fix: remember that Rockstar’s boxed edition has no disc. The download code and an internet connection are required.
Mistake: assuming the most expensive console is mandatory
Fix: start with the confirmed platform families. No official source reviewed here requires a PS5 Pro or Xbox Series X specifically; choose among supported models using your ecosystem, storage and budget, while recognizing that detailed performance differences have not been published.
Quick Recap
A practical readiness checklist
- Choose PS5 or Xbox Series X|S based on the officially supported platform family and your existing ecosystem.
- For the PS5 option, note Rockstar’s statement that the game plays best there, without interpreting it as a quantified benchmark.
- Check current free storage and expansion compatibility on the chosen console.
- Plan for a complete download, whether you buy digitally or in the boxed code edition.
- Ensure your connection can handle a large download and possible launch updates.
- For pre-orders using a redeemed code, look for pre-load availability from November 12, 2026.
- Use November 19, 2026 as the current launch date, subject to any later Rockstar update.
- Ignore exact PC requirements, install-size figures and 60-FPS promises until Rockstar publishes or the final build can be independently tested.
