TechRadar’s October 1, 2026 report, based on a Game Informer interview, names six regions: Vice City, Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and Mount Kalaga National Park. These are reported region names, not a definitive map or evidence of when each area becomes accessible: TechRadar’s report on the GTA VI map.

What does the story campaign leave unanswered?
Recent reporting on Rockstar’s Game Informer interview says the story campaign will not take players to every part of the map. That concerns the campaign’s route: it indicates that missions do not cover the whole world. It does not show whether players can visit areas outside that route during free roam.

TechRadar also reports that Rockstar North co-studio head Aaron Garbut described the world as the biggest Rockstar has created “by some degree.” The report provides no measured map area, so this is not a figure for Leonida’s size or the share of the map that missions cover.
Story coverage and free-roam access are different questions
There are three separate things players may mean by “how much of the map”:

So the campaign’s incomplete coverage does not prove that unvisited regions are locked, and it does not prove that the whole map is open from the beginning.

No verified percentage is available for either the share of Leonida covered by the campaign or the share accessible at launch. The sources reviewed also do not confirm that missions unlock particular regions, identify any initially restricted area, or explain what may become accessible after the story. Claims about those mechanics should wait for explicit confirmation or reliable post-launch verification.

When will the free-roam answer be clear?
Rockstar’s store listing gives November 19, 2026 as GTA VI’s announced release date. Until Rockstar publishes access details or the game can be verified after release, whether players can travel across all six reported regions from the beginning remains open. The key detail to confirm is whether any areas are restricted at the start and, if so, what opens them.
