Rockstar has confirmed their backgrounds and the story’s starting premise, but not the full plot or how their relationship ends. Here’s what new players can take as established—and what remains open.
Where does GTA 6 take place?
Grand Theft Auto VI is set in Vice City and the wider fictional state of Leonida. Rockstar describes Leonida as encompassing Vice City and places including the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn and Ambrosia. That wider setting matters: the announced conspiracy stretches across the state, not just the city. Rockstar’s GTA VI page and its official character profiles provide the setting details.

What is the story of GTA 6?
Rockstar’s official premise is that Jason and Lucia have long faced difficult circumstances. After an easy score goes wrong, they become caught up in a criminal conspiracy spanning Leonida and must rely on each other to survive. The synopsis establishes the setup, not the conspiracy’s full shape, the mission sequence or the ending. Rockstar’s synopsis is also reproduced in Take-Two’s Trailer 2 announcement.

Lucia Caminos
Lucia is one of the two leads, with her own history and ambitions—not simply a supporting character in Jason’s story. According to Rockstar’s bio, her father taught her to fight when she was young. Fighting for her family led to her imprisonment at Leonida Penitentiary; luck got her out. She wants the good life her mother has dreamed of since their time in Liberty City, and says she is prepared to take matters into her own hands.

Jason grew up around grifters and crooks, spent time in the Army while trying to leave behind a troubled youth, and later worked for local drug runners in the Keys. Rockstar sums up his outlook this way: “Jason wants an easy life, but things just keep getting harder.” His biography supplies context for his circumstances, but does not settle how players should judge his choices. These details and Lucia’s come from Rockstar’s character profiles.
What is known about their relationship?
Rockstar puts the pair’s reliance on each other at the heart of the premise. Its profiles describe Jason’s meeting with Lucia as potentially the best or worst thing to happen to him, while leaving the outcome uncertain. It is fair to call them partners at the center of the story; the official material does not confirm a happy ending or explain the final nature of their relationship.

Who are the other main characters?
Rockstar’s profiles sketch the circles around Jason and Lucia. They establish connections and character backgrounds, not specific mission roles or the final importance of each person to the plot.

- Cal Hampton is Jason’s friend and an associate of Brian Heder. He is most comfortable at home, listening in on Coast Guard communications and indulging his paranoia.
- Brian Heder is a veteran drug runner in the Keys. He moves product through his boat yard with his wife, Lori, and lets Jason stay at one of his properties in exchange for help with local shakedowns.
- Boobie Ike is a Vice City local whose legitimate businesses include real estate, a strip club and a recording studio. He partners with aspiring music mogul Dre’Quan Priest on Only Raw Records.
- Dre’Quan Priest was a street hustler seeking a career in music. He has signed Real Dimez, the rap duo of Bae-Luxe and Roxy.
- Real Dimez turned an early musical success into visibility and are trying for another hit after years of trouble.
- Raul Bautista is a seasoned bank robber recruiting people willing to take risks for bigger rewards.
All of these descriptions come from Rockstar’s official bios. A PC Gamer character guide offers a secondary cross-check, but interpretations of future roles should not be mistaken for confirmed plot.

What remains unknown about the story?
The public official material establishes the setting, character biographies and opening criminal setup. It does not disclose the full conspiracy, the mission sequence, the ending or the final fates of Jason, Lucia and the supporting cast. Trailer images and bios can prompt theories, but those are not confirmation; unverified plot claims and leaks are not a reliable guide to what the released game will tell.
One piece of narrative context comes from an interview reported by GamesRadar on October 5, 2026. Asked about Jason’s Army background, Rockstar senior vice president of narrative Rupert Humphries said: “We didn’t want to make any kind of statement with Jason’s backstory. It needs to be understood that he takes the measures he does – drug trafficking and becoming a bank robber, etc. – because of his material circumstances. But a lot of this is up to the player to decide whether he needs to do that, or if it’s a choice he makes because he’s wired differently from other people.” That is Humphries’ explanation of how players may interpret Jason’s motivation, not a promise about the story’s conclusion. When and where can you play GTA 6?
As of October 7, 2026, Rockstar Store lists GTA VI for November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S; Xbox’s official listing shows the same date. Rockstar’s store also describes a physical “code-in-box” option and explicitly says the box contains no disc.
