The rating reportedly pulled was PEGI’s online listing—not every rating for Grand Theft Auto VI. Video Games Chronicle reported that PEGI had posted an 18 rating with descriptions of violence, drug use and sexual content, then removed the listing. Australia still classifies the game R 18+, and the ESRB lists it as M for Mature 17+ in the United States.
What happened to the GTA 6 rating?
On October 3, 2026, Video Games Chronicle reported that PEGI had published an 18 rating for Grand Theft Auto VI on its website the previous Friday, along with detailed content descriptions, and then removed the listing. The PEGI page is no longer available, so its descriptions are known here through VGC’s account, not a currently viewable PEGI entry. VGC’s report
The reported removal applies to that PEGI website listing. It does not mean the game’s ratings in other regions were withdrawn.
What content did the removed listing reportedly describe?
VGC attributed the following descriptions to the removed PEGI listing. They are not independent observations of gameplay:

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Violence: The listing reportedly called it bloody and highly realistic, and said some weapons could cause detailed decapitation and dismemberment.
- Drug use: It reportedly described drug use as frequent and prominent, including taking illegal drugs from inventory and using them with other characters. VGC quoted PEGI as saying cocaine could be carried and snorted directly from the player character’s hand at any time.
- Sexual content: The listing reportedly mentioned nudity, intercourse scenes and occasional sexual fetishes. VGC also reported a description of paid private dances during which the player could move the character’s hands onto dancers’ breasts and buttocks.
- Animal harm: Animals could reportedly be harmed, although VGC said the listing gave less detail about injuries than it did for human characters.
Which GTA 6 ratings are still published?
Rating labels belong to their own regional systems. An Australian R 18+, a US ESRB M rating and a reported PEGI 18 are not interchangeable worldwide classifications.
| Authority and territory | Rating | Published content information |
|---|---|---|
| Australian Classification Board, Australia | R 18+ | “High impact violence, sex scenes and drug use.” The record is dated August 27, 2026, and identifies the version as ORIGINAL. Australian Classification Board record |
| ESRB, United States | M for Mature 17+; listed for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series | Blood and gore, intense violence, mature humor, nudity, strong language, strong sexual content, and use of drugs and alcohol; in-game purchases are also listed. ESRB rating information |
| PEGI, Europe | 18, as reported by VGC | The listing and detailed descriptions were reportedly removed from PEGI’s website. VGC’s account is the available source for the details. VGC report |
What has Rockstar confirmed?
Rockstar’s official GTA VI page links to the ESRB rating and lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. It gives a release date of November 19, 2026. The rating story does not establish that Rockstar changed game content or requested PEGI’s removal.
