Rockstar has not announced a Windows version of Grand Theft Auto VI or published PC system requirements. Its current support information covers PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and Take-Two has set the console launch for November 19, 2026. Any PC specification circulating now is an estimate, not a leak or an official requirement.

For planning, expect a modern six-core processor, 16GB of memory, a DirectX 12 graphics card with at least 6GB of VRAM and SSD storage at the lower end. A more comfortable target is 32GB RAM, an eight-core-class CPU, an RTX 3060 Ti/RTX 4060- or RX 6700 XT-class GPU and an NVMe SSD.

What Rockstar and Take-Two have actually confirmed

Rockstar’s support page, updated August 18, 2026, tells players they can pre-order GTA VI for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. It does not list Windows, a PC release window or PC hardware requirements.

Take-Two’s official announcement schedules the console release for November 19, 2026, at $79.99 for the standard edition. Digital pre-loading begins November 12, 2026. The announced physical edition uses a download code rather than a game disc; that detail applies to the console product and says nothing about PC storage requirements.

Grand Theft Auto V - PC
  • Will take full advantage of the power of new generation systems and PC to deliver across-the-board enhancements including increased resolution and graphical detail, denser traffic, greater draw distances, upgraded AI, new wildlife, and advanced weather and damage effects for the ultimate open world experience.
  • The biggest, most dynamic and most diverse open world ever created and now packed with layers of new detail.
  • Grand Theft Auto V blends storytelling and gameplay in new ways as players repeatedly jump in and out of the lives of the game’s three lead characters, playing all sides of the game’s interwoven story.
  • Includes Grand Theft Auto Online, the ever-evolving Grand Theft Auto universe.
  • All new content and gameplay created and released since the launch of Grand Theft Auto Online including new Jobs, an arsenal of new weapons, scores of new vehicles, new properties and player customizations

Take-Two describes the company as having sold in more than 470 million units worldwide. Chairman and CEO Strauss Zelnick has said, “The strategy of the company is over time, generally speaking, to launch for any platforms for which there’s a meaningful audience.” He has also said that “the PC platform is becoming more and more important to our company over time.” Those comments show that PC matters strategically, but they are not a commitment to a GTA VI Windows release.

Predicted GTA 6 PC requirements

The following range is an evidence-based September 2026 planning estimate. It uses the confirmed current-console generation and Rockstar’s existing PC baseline. Neither tier has been published or validated by Rockstar.

Component Lower planning tier More comfortable target
CPU Modern six-core processor Modern eight-core-class processor
System memory 16GB RAM 32GB RAM
Graphics card DirectX 12-capable GPU with at least 6GB VRAM RTX 3060 Ti/RTX 4060- or RX 6700 XT-class GPU
Storage SSD NVMe SSD
Resolution and frame-rate headroom Planning baseline for 1080p-class settings; official frame-rate target is not stated More room for higher settings or resolution; official frame-rate target is not stated
Confidence Prediction only; final requirements could be materially different

The GPU examples describe performance classes, not guaranteed compatibility. An RTX 4060, RTX 3060 Ti or RX 6700 XT is not confirmed to run GTA VI at any particular resolution, quality preset or frame rate.

Why GTA V’s requirements are not a GTA 6 minimum

Rockstar’s existing GTA V PC page lists a GTX 660 2GB or Radeon HD 7870 2GB and 125GB of storage. It also warns that requirements can change over time. Those specifications are a historical reference for an older PC port, not a forecast of GTA VI’s minimum hardware.

GTA VI is being built for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, a much newer console generation than the hardware targeted by the original GTA V PC release. That makes a DirectX 12-class GPU, substantially more graphics memory and SSD-based asset streaming a more sensible planning assumption. The final PC port could still be exceptionally well optimized—or demand more memory and GPU power if advanced visual features are enabled.

How to judge whether your PC is a sensible starting point

  1. Identify your processor. A current six-core CPU is the practical floor for planning. An eight-core-class chip gives more room for dense traffic, simulation and background tasks, but Rockstar has not published a model list.
  2. Check installed RAM. Treat 16GB as the lower planning tier and 32GB as the safer long-term target for a new build or major upgrade.
  3. Check GPU VRAM and API support. The estimate assumes DirectX 12 support and at least 6GB of VRAM. Cards with 8GB or more are a more flexible choice for modern games, but no card is guaranteed until the PC version is documented.
  4. Check the drive. Plan to install the game on an SSD rather than a mechanical hard drive. No GTA VI PC capacity has been announced, so do not treat any rumored download size as fact.
  5. Look at the whole balance. A powerful graphics card paired with an old quad-core CPU, or a fast CPU with too little RAM, can leave a system uneven. The CPU, memory, GPU and storage should be upgraded as a group when possible.

Should you upgrade before the Windows announcement?

If GTA VI is the only reason you are shopping, waiting is the financially safer choice. Rockstar could change the target substantially through ray-tracing support, PC-specific visual options, optimization work, a later port, or different resolution and frame-rate targets.

Rank #3
Rockstar Games Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition (PS4)
  • Grand Theft Auto III: It all starts in Liberty City
  • Grand Theft Auto: Vice City: Welcome to the 1980s
  • Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas: Five years ago, Carl 'CJ' Johnson escaped the haze of Los Santos, San Andreas...a city tearing itself apart with gang trouble, drugs, and corruption.

For a general modern-gaming upgrade, the estimate supports a balanced six- or eight-core processor, at least 16GB of RAM, an SSD and a graphics card with 8GB or more of VRAM. A 1TB NVMe SSD is a practical capacity and speed choice for a current gaming system, but it is not a confirmed GTA VI requirement. Buy a GPU or memory kit for the games you play now, rather than paying a premium for an unverified “GTA 6-ready” label.

What could change the prediction

  • Ray tracing: If the PC release exposes heavier ray-traced lighting, reflections or shadows, GPU and VRAM needs could rise sharply.
  • Port optimization: Rockstar may scale settings aggressively for mid-range hardware, or require higher specifications to preserve console-level detail and streaming.
  • Display targets: A requirement for 1440p or high-refresh play would be far more demanding than a 1080p baseline. No official target exists yet.
  • Storage design: Large streamed worlds and optional texture packs could affect the final installation size. Rockstar has not stated a PC capacity.
  • Release timing: There is no confirmed PC launch date. Anonymous requirement tables and claimed dates should not be treated as evidence.

Bottom line for PC buyers

Plan around a modern six-core CPU, 16GB RAM, a DirectX 12 GPU with at least 6GB VRAM and an SSD if you need a conservative starting point. Choose 32GB, an eight-core-class CPU, an RTX 3060 Ti/RTX 4060- or RX 6700 XT-class GPU and NVMe storage for more general headroom. These estimates can help with budgeting, but the only reliable GTA VI PC requirements will be the Windows specifications Rockstar publishes after it confirms that version.
