GTA 6 PC requirements: How to check whether your computer can run it (2026 status)

There are no official GTA VI PC requirements. Rockstar has announced the November 19, 2026 release for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, but it has not announced a Windows edition or published CPU, GPU, RAM, storage, DirectX, or Windows specifications. You can still document your computer now so you can make a direct comparison if Rockstar releases a PC version and requirements.

What is officially known about GTA VI on PC

Rockstar’s support page, last updated August 18, 2026, says: “You can pre-order Grand Theft Auto VI for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.” The page does not list Windows, Steam, Epic Games Store, or any other PC platform. Take-Two’s official announcement dated June 24, 2026, also sets the launch date at November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S and does not provide PC specifications.

That leaves the PC release itself unresolved. A future PC edition could be announced later, but no launch date, storefront, system requirements, graphics options, or performance targets have been committed to in the official material available for this article. Treat any page presenting a precise GTA VI minimum or recommended configuration as an estimate or rumor unless the figures appear in a Rockstar system-requirements page or an official store listing.

Why online “minimum requirements” tables are not reliable yet

A requirements table is useful only when it comes from the platform holder or the game’s publisher and identifies the target operating system, graphics API, resolution, frame rate, and quality preset. None of those GTA VI PC fields has been published. A table that names a processor, graphics card, RAM amount, or SSD capacity without an official Rockstar or store source is making a prediction.

Rumor tables also tend to mix different targets. “Minimum” may mean that the game starts at a low preset, while “recommended” might target 1080p at 60 frames per second, 1440p at 60, or a higher setting with upscaling. Without a stated resolution and frame rate, two apparently precise tables cannot be compared fairly.

  • Official requirement: published by Rockstar or shown on an official retailer or platform listing for the PC edition.
  • Estimate: a writer’s projection based on hardware trends, trailers, or another Rockstar game.
  • Rumor or leak: an unattributed or unverified claim that has not been corroborated by an official source.

Do not buy a new graphics card, processor, or storage drive solely because a leaked table says your current system will fail. Keep the table’s URL and date if you want to monitor it, but label it as unconfirmed until an authoritative listing replaces it.

Check your current PC before GTA VI requirements arrive

The goal is to create an accurate inventory, not to guess whether a part is “powerful enough.” Record the exact model and software version shown by Windows. A product family name such as “RTX” or “Core i7” is not specific enough for a later comparison.

1. Record Windows and processor details

  1. Open Settings > System > About.
  2. Write down the exact Windows edition and build, the processor model, and the installed RAM. Include the edition and build number rather than only writing “Windows 11.”
  3. Keep the record with the date you checked it. Windows updates can change the build even when the hardware stays the same.

The processor entry should include its complete model designation. For example, a family name without the generation or suffix cannot be matched reliably against a future CPU list.

2. Identify the graphics card and dedicated VRAM

  1. Open Task Manager > Performance.
  2. Select the GPU entry and record the exact graphics-card model and the amount of dedicated VRAM.
  3. If the model is abbreviated or several GPUs are listed, confirm the name in the graphics-card vendor’s control panel and note which adapter drives your games.

Do not substitute total system memory for VRAM. A future requirement may specify a particular GPU class or a minimum dedicated-memory amount; those are separate fields.

3. Check the game drive

  1. Open File Explorer and locate the drive where you would install the game.
  2. Record the available free space and whether the drive is an SSD or an HDD.
  3. Note the drive’s capacity as well as its current free space. A large drive can still fail an installation check when only a small amount remains available.

Do not assume that an existing GTA installation’s size predicts GTA VI’s size. The only relevant number will be the storage requirement Rockstar publishes for the PC build, and that number may distinguish an SSD from an HDD or specify a particular storage feature.

4. Write down your performance target

Record the resolution and frame rate you actually want: for example, 1080p/60 or 1440p/60. Also note whether you expect a high or ultra preset, ray tracing, or an upscaler. A requirement is meaningful only in relation to a target. “Can it run?” could mean launching at a low preset or maintaining a locked frame rate at a demanding resolution.

Use this readiness worksheet

Complete the fields now and fill in the GTA VI column only after Rockstar publishes a PC specification sheet.

Field to record Your current value What to compare later
Windows edition and build From Settings > System > About Required Windows edition and build
Processor Exact model from About Minimum and recommended CPU models or core/thread expectations
Installed RAM Amount shown in About Minimum and recommended system memory
Graphics card Exact model from Task Manager or the vendor panel Minimum and recommended GPU models
Dedicated VRAM GPU memory shown in Task Manager Any stated VRAM threshold
Game-drive type SSD or HDD Whether an SSD is required or recommended
Free storage Available space in File Explorer Installation size and any additional space requirement
Target output Resolution and desired frame rate The resolution and frame rate used by Rockstar’s requirement tier

This inventory also prevents a common mistake: comparing a laptop’s integrated graphics to a desktop GPU by name alone. Record the exact adapter that the game will use, then compare that model directly when the official list appears.

What GTA V Enhanced can—and cannot—tell you

Rockstar’s official GTA V Enhanced page provides a useful example of how a PC requirement list may be formatted. Its numbers are for GTA V Enhanced, not GTA VI, and cannot be treated as a substitute.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
GTA V Enhanced tier Windows RAM Graphics Storage
Minimum Windows 10 8 GB GTX 1630 or RX 6400 105 GB SSD
Recommended Windows 11 16 GB RTX 3060 or RX 6600 XT 105 GB DirectStorage-compatible storage

The page demonstrates why future GTA VI comparisons need more than a GPU name: it separates minimum from recommended tiers, identifies the Windows version, specifies RAM, names graphics classes, and describes storage technology. It does not establish what GTA VI will require. A computer that meets the GTA V Enhanced recommended row has no guaranteed GTA VI result until Rockstar publishes GTA VI-specific figures.

Do you need an SSD for GTA VI?

There is no GTA VI PC storage requirement yet, so an SSD cannot currently be stated as mandatory. It is nevertheless a field worth checking because Rockstar’s GTA V Enhanced recommendations distinguish a 105 GB SSD from “DirectStorage-compatible” storage. That historical wording shows that Rockstar may specify both capacity and storage capability in a future PC listing.

Record the drive type and free space now, but wait for the official GTA VI entry before replacing an HDD. If the final listing names an SSD requirement, install the game on an SSD with enough free capacity rather than relying on an external or slower drive that does not meet the stated condition.

How to compare your PC when the official list is published

Use the same fields in the same order. If Rockstar supplies separate minimum and recommended tiers, compare against recommended for a smoother experience; minimum generally describes the lowest supported configuration, not a promise of high settings or a steady frame rate.

  1. Verify the source. Use Rockstar’s support or news page, or the official store listing for the Windows edition. Check the publication date and make sure the list is for GTA VI rather than GTA V or GTA V Enhanced.
  2. Match the operating system. Compare your exact Windows edition and build with the stated requirement. An otherwise suitable computer can fail a software requirement.
  3. Match the CPU exactly. Compare the complete model, generation, and any core or thread guidance. Do not infer equivalence from a shared product-family label.
  4. Match memory. Compare installed system RAM with the minimum and recommended values, then compare dedicated GPU VRAM separately.
  5. Match the GPU. Use the exact model and check whether the list names ray tracing, a graphics API, or an upscaler as a separate requirement.
  6. Match storage. Check both free capacity and the required drive type or interface. Leave room for patches if Rockstar states an additional-space rule.
  7. Match the target. Confirm that the requirement’s resolution, frame rate, quality preset, and ray-tracing assumptions match your goal. A “recommended” label without those conditions still needs context.

If one component falls below the minimum row, the official list does not support that configuration. If every component meets minimum but not recommended, expect to choose lower settings or a different resolution if the eventual game offers those options; do not claim a specific frame rate until Rockstar or reliable testing provides one.

What to do while the PC release is unresolved

Keep your current system record

Save the worksheet and update it after major hardware or Windows changes. This takes less time than trying to reconstruct the configuration months later, especially on a system with multiple drives or graphics adapters.

Do not buy against a rumor

GTA VI is a large, technically ambitious console release, but ambition alone does not produce a defensible PC requirement. Buying to an unverified GPU, RAM, or storage number can leave you with the wrong upgrade—or an unnecessary one. Wait for the publisher’s list or an official store page before making a purchase specifically for GTA VI.

Check the authoritative pages again before launch

Rockstar’s support and news pages are the places to check for a Windows announcement, release date, launcher details, and system requirements. The currently announced November 19, 2026 date applies to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S; it is not a PC date.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Does a company statement imply a PC version?

Take-Two chairman and CEO Strauss Zelnick has been quoted by PC Gamer (September 18, 2026) saying, “The strategy of the company is over time, generally speaking, to launch for any platforms for which there’s a meaningful audience.” That is a broad company strategy statement, not a GTA VI PC announcement. It cannot supply a release date or hardware requirements for this game.

Bottom line for your computer today

You can accurately answer “Can my PC run GTA 6?” only after Rockstar publishes a Windows version and its requirements. Until then, the useful action is to record your Windows build, exact CPU, GPU and dedicated VRAM, RAM, SSD status, free space, and target resolution and frame rate. Keep GTA V Enhanced’s published figures as a formatting example, never as a GTA VI substitute, and recheck Rockstar’s official pages before spending money on hardware.
