Fan-made maps are useful working reconstructions of roads, landmarks and regional relationships, but none can claim exact accuracy while Rockstar has not released a complete, navigable map. Treat an official place name or a location visibly shown in a trailer as confirmed; treat a drawn border, coordinate, road connection or leak-only area as an estimate until the game or Rockstar verifies it.
The short answer
There is no single, fully accurate GTA 6 map available yet. Rockstar has confirmed the setting and several destination names, and its trailers show individual scenes. Community projects then arrange those clues into a larger picture. That arrangement can be highly useful, but it is still interpretation.

Use the two sources for different jobs:
- Rockstar’s releases and footage: authority for the fictional state of Leonida, Vice City, named destinations, characters and scenes that are visibly shown.
- An evidence-labeled community map: a provisional guide to how roads, landmarks and regions might fit together.
- Leak images and clips: unverified leads, not proof of the final world.
Claims such as “the map is 85 percent accurate” are not supported by a verified measurement. The responsible description is “best current reconstruction” or “provisional estimate,” with the evidence type shown beside each item.
What Rockstar has officially confirmed
Leonida is the state, and Vice City is the principal city
Take-Two and Rockstar’s May 6, 2025 Trailer 2 release places the story in “Vice City, USA” and says the criminal conspiracy stretches “across the state of Leonida.” That wording establishes a broader setting than a single urban map: Vice City is the principal city, while Leonida is the fictional state containing the story’s wider regions. The release also states that all Trailer 2 footage was captured on PlayStation 5.

This is a first-party statement, so it outranks any fan placement when the two conflict. It does not, however, supply a cartographic outline that players can use as a final in-game map.
The six destination names Rockstar has published
Official material identifies six destinations:

A name is not the same thing as a published polygon on a map. A community drawing can place “Port Gellhorn” or “Grassrivers” on a helpful overview, but that boundary remains unofficial even though the name itself is official.
What Rockstar has not released
Rockstar has not published a complete world map with a cartographic grid, exact borders, a scale bar, definitive coordinates or a final road network. The available releases and footage also do not establish every connecting highway, trail, waterway or district boundary.
That distinction matters when a fan graphic looks authoritative. A clean coastline, labeled county line or GPS-style pin may be the creator’s reconstruction rather than data supplied by Rockstar. The image can still be an intelligent hypothesis; its visual polish does not turn an estimate into a confirmed fact.
Official footage proves that a shown place or feature exists in the game’s material. It often does not prove the exact coordinate. A camera can be looking across a bay, using a long lens, or showing a scene whose surrounding geography is outside the frame. The safest wording is therefore “shown in official footage” rather than “located at this exact point.”
How responsible community maps are made
They compare many small clues
Community cartographers examine trailer frames, screenshots, visible signs, landmarks, sight lines and the apparent relationship between roads and buildings. A single frame rarely supplies enough information for a coordinate. Several independent clues can narrow the possibilities, but the result is still a reconstruction until Rockstar or the released game provides a reference.
They separate confidence levels
Leonida Explorer records separate confidence for a destination’s name, its regional assignment and its proposed coordinate. That prevents a common error: assuming that because Rockstar used a name, every line drawn around it is also official. Its workflow separates official sources, observations in official media, original reporting, community reconstruction and leak reports.

The Leonida Survey uses three plain-language labels:
- Named by Rockstar: the name appears in official material.
- Visible in official media: a place or feature can be seen in footage or an image released by Rockstar.
- Estimated from visual clues: the position or relationship is inferred from perspective, roads, signs and landmarks.
These labels are more informative than a single percentage score. A map can be certain that a national park exists, reasonably confident about its general region and uncertain about the exact location of its entrance. Those are three different questions and should be displayed separately.
They show uncertainty instead of hiding it
Strong projects use different colors, line styles or notes for confirmed names, observations and estimates. They explain why a placement was made and identify which clues would change the conclusion. When two possible road connections fit the same camera view, both should remain possibilities rather than being presented as a settled junction.
If a map has no legend, no source notes and no distinction between official and estimated elements, use it as an orientation graphic only. Do not quote its borders or coordinates as Rockstar facts.

The “most accurate map” depends on what you are trying to learn. The following hierarchy reflects the evidence currently available.

This is why an official announcement can be “more accurate” than a fan map for names, while a well-documented fan map is more useful for a provisional spatial overview. They answer different questions.
Why two fan maps can disagree
Camera perspective is ambiguous
A trailer shot gives a viewpoint, not a survey. The apparent order of a skyline, bridge and shoreline can change with camera height, lens choice and distance. A landmark that looks beside a highway may be separated by a large area that the frame compresses.

Road relationships are incomplete
One visible road may be a ramp, a service road, a temporary route or a small street that joins another road outside the frame. Connecting every line on a screenshot into a complete highway network creates false certainty. Maps should mark a connection as estimated unless multiple independent scenes support it.
Landmark identity can be uncertain
Fans may recognize a sign, tower or mountain silhouette, but recognition is not proof. Similar architecture and vegetation can appear in several parts of Leonida. A responsible map records the observation and the proposed identity separately, then updates both if new footage contradicts the first reading.
Different map scales produce different-looking borders
A regional sketch, an urban district plan and an eventual in-game navigation map will not use the same scale. A line that is useful for showing the general position of Ambrosia may be misleading if read as a precise administrative boundary.
How to evaluate a GTA 6 community map
- Find the legend. Confirm that the map distinguishes “Named by Rockstar,” visible observations, estimates and leaks.
- Check the source notes. Each important placement should point to a trailer frame, screenshot, official wording or clearly identified reconstruction method.
- Separate names from coordinates. An official name does not validate an unofficial pin or border.
- Look for uncertainty markers. Dashed lines, confidence ratings and alternate placements are signs that the creator is not overstating the evidence.
- Check the date and revision history. A map made before a new trailer may contain reasonable inferences that later footage changes.
- Exclude leak-only items from the confirmed layer. Keep them in a separate, clearly labeled section if they are discussed at all.
- Compare independent reconstructions. Agreement on a feature is useful, but several maps copying one another are not independent confirmation.
- Use the map for the question it can answer. A broad regional layout can guide discussion; it cannot establish a final coordinate or percentage of completion.
Are GTA 6 map leaks real?
Some purported clips and map images may depict genuine development material, but authenticity and build date are often unknown. PC Gamer reported on August 18, 2026 that such material could be unauthentic or come from an outdated build. Even an authentic image from an older build would not necessarily represent the launch map.
That makes leak imagery a lead for investigation, not confirmation. Evidence-focused community guides exclude leak-derived placements from their authoritative layer for the same reason. A leak should never override a direct Rockstar statement, and it should not be used to assign an exact location that official media has not established.
When discussing a leak, identify it as a report, state what cannot be verified and avoid converting a blurry image into a precise map pin. Do not present a leak-derived road, town or boundary in the same color as an officially named destination.
A practical evidence system for following map updates
Use three layers
A simple three-layer system keeps a personal reference map honest:

- Official layer: Rockstar’s wording and officially named destinations.
- Observed layer: features plainly visible in official footage, without assuming an exact coordinate.
- Estimated layer: community interpretations of roads, boundaries, sight lines and positions.
Keep any leak discussion outside those layers. This structure lets you update one conclusion without rewriting everything. For example, a new trailer could confirm that a particular landscape exists while leaving its regional assignment estimated.
Record the claim, not just the picture
For each pin or line, write a short note such as “name published by Rockstar,” “bridge visible in Trailer 2,” or “position estimated from two sight lines.” Include the date of the supporting material. This prevents a later reader—or your future self—from mistaking an old hypothesis for a new announcement.

Prefer qualified language
Use “confirmed name,” “shown in official media,” “probable placement” and “unresolved” where appropriate. Avoid “definitely here,” “final border” and numerical accuracy claims unless Rockstar supplies the underlying reference or a named publisher documents a reproducible measurement.
What to expect when the game releases
In-game verification will answer questions that trailers cannot: the navigable road network, actual coordinates, district boundaries, traversal routes and the scale relationship between regions. Until then, a community map can improve as new official material appears, but it cannot become official by accumulating reposts.
Rockstar’s currently confirmed console platforms are PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The Trailer 2 release specifies PlayStation 5 capture, which explains the source of that footage but does not provide a map grid or guarantee that every visible scene reveals its exact position.
When an official interactive map or the shipped game provides coordinates, compare older fan placements against that reference rather than silently relabeling them as always correct. A transparent revision history is more valuable than a confident but untraceable percentage.

Trust Rockstar for what is confirmed: Leonida, Vice City, the six published destination names and the scenes it has shown. Use a community map with explicit evidence labels for a provisional picture of how those places may connect. Treat every exact coordinate, border, scale claim and leak-only location as unresolved unless an official source or the released game verifies it.
The most accurate current “map” is therefore a layered combination of official facts and clearly marked reconstruction—not a single fan image presented as final.
