Rockstar has shown those regions, but it has not published a complete one-to-one list matching every fictional location to a real Florida city or county.
The most reliable comparisons are visual and structural: Ocean Drive’s Art Deco hotels, South Beach, Brickell, Wynwood, the Venetian and MacArthur causeways, Miami’s port, the Everglades and the Florida Keys all have recognizable counterparts in trailer footage or official material. The game then moves buildings, renames districts and combines environments so a statewide crime story fits one explorable map.

How closely does Leonida match Florida?
Think of Leonida as a dramatic map built from Florida ingredients, not a survey-grade recreation. The closer you are to Vice City’s famous urban landmarks, the stronger the visual match tends to be. The farther you move into lesser-known regions, the more the comparison becomes thematic: a wetland that behaves like an Everglades counterpart, a fading resort coast that evokes several Florida towns, or an inland sugar-and-industry zone that suggests the state’s agricultural interior.

That distinction matters because screenshots can establish architecture, vegetation, roads, bridges and skyline shapes, but they cannot prove an exact real-world address or every gameplay system. Independent map analyses can identify likely inspirations; only Rockstar can confirm a fictional place’s intended correspondence. For that reason, this guide labels Vice City, the Leonida Keys and Grassrivers as strong comparisons, while treating Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga as likely or possible inspirations rather than confirmed copies.

Vice City: GTA 6’s compressed Miami
Ocean Beach and the South Beach model
Ocean Beach is the clearest fictional stand-in for Miami Beach’s South Beach and Ocean Drive. Trailer footage shows the visual language that makes the comparison persuasive: pastel and white Art Deco façades, neon nightlife, dense hotel frontage, palm-lined streets and a beach-and-road relationship that resembles Miami’s famous waterfront strip. The architecture is close enough for local preservation experts to recognize the source immediately.
That does not mean every Ocean Beach building occupies its real position. Daniel Ciraldo, executive director of the Miami Design Preservation League, described the depiction as exciting and said it appeared to take “the best of South Florida from the Everglades to South Beach and everything in between.” He also cautioned that the architecture can look realistic while buildings are “out of order or on the wrong block.” In practical terms, GTA 6 uses the identity of Ocean Drive without promising a walkable replica of its exact street plan.
Downtown Vice City and Brickell-style towers
Downtown Vice City combines the high-rise character associated with Brickell and Downtown Miami. In real Miami, those districts are distinct but connected by a dense corridor of offices, apartments, hotels, transit routes and waterfront views. Leonida turns that urban intensity into one navigable city center, allowing a player to move quickly between nightlife, business towers, bridges and port approaches.

Towers may be shifted to create better sightlines, mission routes or open space. A building that looks like a Miami landmark can therefore be a visual quotation instead of a claim that the player is standing at the same real-world intersection.
Wynwood, causeways and the port
Trailer analysis identifies a Wynwood-like arts district, represented in fan-made map comparisons as Stockyard. Colorful walls, low-rise commercial blocks and a street-level nightlife atmosphere echo Wynwood’s public identity, while the game’s name and exact boundaries are fictional.
The Venetian and MacArthur causeways provide another strong link to Miami. Their importance is not only visual: causeways explain how an urban island-and-mainland metropolis connects to beaches, ports and outer districts. GTA 6 can use those crossings as travel corridors and dramatic establishing views while still shortening distances that would take much longer in real traffic.

Miami’s port is also recognizable as part of the city’s working waterfront. A port setting gives Leonida container yards, heavy infrastructure and maritime access alongside luxury beaches. That juxtaposition is central to the game’s version of South Florida: glamorous districts and industrial edges exist within the same metropolitan frame.
Leonida Keys: the Florida Keys without a confirmed island chart
The Leonida Keys are modeled on the Florida Keys’ most recognizable traits: a chain of low tropical islands, long bridges, open water, marinas, docks and a culture organized around boating. Rockstar’s official material presents island life, boats and smugglers, making the region more than a generic beach. The bridges and exposed coastal setting are the strongest visual clues that the Florida Keys are the intended real-world reference.
What carries over from the real Keys
- Linear travel: bridges and narrow islands create a natural route between settlements instead of a conventional inland road grid.
- Water as scenery and infrastructure: docks, boats and channels define how the region looks and how its communities connect.
- Low, tropical development: the Keys contrast with Vice City’s towers through smaller buildings, open horizons and shoreline activity.
- Distance from the mainland: the islands feel like a separate environment even when the game compresses travel time.
Where the comparison stops
There is no confirmed Rockstar table assigning each fictional island to Key Largo, Islamorada, Marathon, Big Pine Key, Key West or another specific real location. A bridge that resembles a Florida Keys crossing establishes the regional inspiration, not its exact latitude. Treat detailed island-name matches as interpretation unless Rockstar identifies them directly.
The game also uses the Keys as a story space. Smuggling, marinas and secluded approaches create a different tone from Vice City’s public nightlife. That contrast is useful for exploration: a short trip from dense urban streets can lead to open water, small docks and isolated roads without requiring the game to reproduce the Keys’ full real-world length.
Grassrivers: an Everglades counterpart, not a park boundary map
Grassrivers is Leonida’s wetland region. Mangroves, alligators, stilt houses and airboats establish the strongest environmental connection to the Everglades. The name is fictional, and the region should be read as an adventure-sandbox interpretation of South Florida wetlands rather than a literal rendering of Everglades National Park.

Landscape and built environment
Real Everglades country is defined by shallow water, sawgrass marshes, mangrove ecosystems and a very broad transition between land and sea. Grassrivers translates those ideas into a legible game space. Stilt houses communicate flood-prone terrain; mangroves create narrow, enclosed routes; airboats signal that conventional roads are not the only way through; and alligators reinforce the region’s wildlife identity.

Those elements also produce a different visual rhythm from Vice City. Instead of tower blocks and traffic, the player gets low horizons, vegetation, water channels and isolated structures. The wetland therefore functions both as a Florida reference and as a tonal counterweight to the city’s crowded, performative nightlife.
What screenshots cannot prove
Images of airboats, water and wildlife do not by themselves establish unrestricted boating, hunting, diving or seaplane mechanics. They show the setting Rockstar is presenting; they do not confirm every activity that might eventually be possible. The safe conclusion is that Grassrivers is designed around an Everglades-like environment and wetland crime-story possibilities.
Port Gellhorn: Florida’s faded coast turned up for satire
Port Gellhorn represents a worn-down coastal side of Leonida. Rockstar material characterizes it through cheap motels, strip clubs and resort decline, a sharp contrast with Vice City’s polished beachfront image. The setting evokes the economic afterlife of older Florida resort strips: properties built for tourism, public-facing entertainment and seasonal visitors, but no longer carrying the same prestige.

The evidence supports a thematic comparison to several Florida coastal communities, not a confirmed match to one town. Port Gellhorn may borrow visual cues from more than one place, because a single fictional district can combine motel corridors, aging attractions, working waterfront and low-cost nightlife in a way that real municipal boundaries keep separate.
Why the difference matters in play
Port Gellhorn broadens GTA 6’s Florida satire. Vice City presents aspiration, influence and conspicuous wealth; Port Gellhorn presents decline, improvisation and the businesses that survive after a resort loses its shine. That contrast gives missions and character encounters a different social texture without requiring Rockstar to identify a specific real county.
Ambrosia: sugar country and industrial Florida
Ambrosia moves the map inland. Its Allied Crystal sugar refinery and biker influence evoke Florida’s sugar-producing interior, where large agricultural operations, processing infrastructure and long stretches of less-urban land contrast with Miami’s towers and beaches.

The refinery is an especially useful signpost because it ties the landscape to an industry rather than to tourism. Industrial tanks, service roads and working facilities suggest a Florida that visitors to South Beach may never see. The biker presence adds a social and criminal layer, but it should not be mistaken for proof that Ambrosia reproduces a particular real county or town.
Rockstar has not confirmed an exact Ambrosia analogue in the available material. The most accurate description is therefore “Florida sugar-country inspiration,” not “a copy of county X.” The fictional name also lets the game combine rural roads, refinery infrastructure and outlaw territory into a compact area suited to missions and exploration.
Mount Kalaga National Park: why Leonida is more than Miami
Mount Kalaga National Park is the clearest reminder that Leonida is not meant to be a Miami map with a few beaches attached. It introduces a northern wilderness region and expands the state’s visual range beyond flat tropical coast, mangroves and urban skylines.
The available material does not establish a definitive Florida landmark equivalent for Mount Kalaga. It is safer to treat it as a fictional wilderness composite that gives the game elevation, forested scenery and a change in atmosphere. Calling it a direct recreation of a named Florida park would go beyond what Rockstar has confirmed.
Its inclusion also solves a design problem: a statewide setting needs geographic variation. By placing wilderness in the north, Leonida can move from nightlife to wetlands, islands, industrial interior and forest without pretending that every transition follows real Florida county lines.
What Rockstar changed from real Florida
Names and political geography
Leonida replaces Florida as the state name, and Vice City, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga are fictional labels. These names create room for satire and storytelling without binding the game to every real institution, road designation or local controversy.

Compressed distances
Real Florida is large and travel between Miami, the Keys, the Everglades and inland agricultural areas takes time. Leonida puts those environments within one game state so a player can move between them at a useful pace. The map therefore communicates relationships—city beside wetlands, islands beyond causeways, sugar country inland—more than it reproduces driving distances.
Rearranged landmarks
Some real-looking buildings are out of order or on the wrong block. This is not an error in the sense of a failed reference; it is a deliberate compromise between authenticity and playability. A landmark may be moved to improve a skyline, support a mission route or make a district readable from the road.
Exaggerated social contrasts
Rockstar heightens Florida’s contrasts for a crime sandbox: luxury and decay, influencer-style spectacle and ordinary street life, tourist beaches and working infrastructure, public chaos and private wealth. Trailer scenes featuring nightlife, conspicuous online-persona culture, alligators and disorder are evidence of that satirical emphasis, not a claim that every Floridian experience looks like the game.
Is GTA 6’s Miami accurate?
It is accurate in architectural vocabulary and broad layout ideas, but not as a one-to-one street survey. Art Deco hotels, South Beach styling, Brickell-like towers, Wynwood-style walls, causeways and the port all anchor Vice City in recognizable Miami. The fictional city then changes names, relocates buildings and combines districts to make a coherent playable metropolis.
The best way to judge it is landmark by landmark. Ask whether the building style, road relationship, waterfront setting or neighborhood function resembles Miami; then ask whether the exact placement has been confirmed. The first answer is often yes. The second is frequently no.
How to read claims about GTA 6 locations
- Separate official material from interpretation. Rockstar’s trailers and location descriptions establish what Leonida contains. Fan maps and travel comparisons can identify likely sources but cannot turn a resemblance into an official confirmation.
- Look for multiple matching signals. A bridge alone is weak evidence; a bridge combined with island geography, marinas, tropical vegetation and Keys-style development is a much stronger regional match.
- Distinguish a region from a municipality. Grassrivers can represent the Everglades as an ecosystem without matching the park boundary. Port Gellhorn can evoke a fading resort coast without copying one named town.
- Keep gameplay claims separate from scenery. An airboat in a trailer confirms an airboat is part of the presented imagery; it does not establish every rule governing boats, water access or wildlife.
- Expect deliberate compression. A short drive from Vice City to wetlands or islands reflects game-world design, not a claim about real travel times.
Why the comparison attracts so much attention
Florida is unusually recognizable as a collection of contrasts. Miami’s Art Deco beachfront, Brickell towers, causeways, ports, the Everglades and the Keys each have a strong visual identity, yet they sit within the same broad state. Leonida turns that variety into a single crime-sandbox premise, so players can immediately test their knowledge of the real places while discovering what Rockstar invents.
The franchise context also raises expectations. Axios reported that Take-Two Interactive’s 2023 figure for GTA V had reached 190 million copies. That number is a sales figure for GTA V, not a forecast for GTA VI, but it helps explain why even a renamed street, bridge or skyline can attract detailed public analysis.

Rockstar’s official page currently lists Grand Theft Auto VI as “Coming November 19 2026” for PlayStation 5. That release statement identifies the announced platform and date; it does not change the distinction between confirmed Leonida material and inferred real-world inspirations.
