What is included in the Standard Edition?
Standard is the straightforward purchase: the full base game at launch. It is sold digitally or as a physical box containing a download code. The physical Standard package does not contain a disc, so the console must download the game and have enough storage available.
Standard buyers who meet the promotion’s deadline receive the Vintage Vice City Pack. A digital Standard pre-order also qualifies for the one-month GTA+ offer described below. Standard owners are not locked out of Ultimate content: after redeeming the game code, they can buy the Ultimate Edition Upgrade from the PlayStation or Microsoft storefront.
What does the GTA 6 Ultimate Edition add?
Ultimate includes the base game plus the Ultimate Edition Upgrade. The official list does not assign separate cash values to individual items or specify how much play time each unlock requires. Treat Ultimate as a collection of additional world and customisation content, not as a guarantee of a different ending or extra main-story missions. The wording also does not establish that any listed item is exclusive to a particular protagonist; it says the content is threaded across Jason and Lucia’s story.
What the extra $20 buys
At the stated US prices, Ultimate costs $20 more than Standard, a 25 percent increase over the $79.99 base price. That premium is easy to evaluate if you already want the named cars, revolvers, weapon variants, styles and locations. It is harder to justify if you only want the campaign and do not care about cosmetic or vehicle variety.
Ultimate is not described as a larger download, a technical upgrade or a different version of the story. The confirmed distinction is access to the Ultimate Edition Upgrade content. Because Standard owners can add that upgrade later, the initial $20 is also a convenience premium: you receive the extras from the outset instead of deciding after launch. Taxes, currency conversion and retailer pricing can change the amount you actually pay outside the United States.
Pre-order bonuses and the November 20 deadline
Vintage Vice City Pack
Pre-orders and purchases made before November 20, 2026 receive the Vintage Vice City Pack. The pack contains:
- ’55 Vapid Stanier Sedan and Garage
- Additional outfits and hairstyles
- An exclusive weapon pattern
The wording covers purchases made before the deadline, not only orders placed before launch. In other words, a qualifying purchase on November 19 still falls within the stated window, while a purchase on or after November 20 does not. Keep the retailer receipt or digital order record in case a code or entitlement does not appear automatically.

One month of GTA+ for digital pre-orders
Eligible digital pre-orders include one month of GTA+. The PlayStation listing says the subscription auto-renews after the free month unless you cancel it, and the month must be redeemed by March 31, 2027. Check the account’s subscription settings if you do not want a paid renewal. The offer is tied to digital pre-orders; do not assume a physical code-in-box purchase carries the same subscription entitlement.
The GTA+ month is separate from the Ultimate Edition content. Buying Ultimate does not create a second subscription month, and buying Standard digitally does not remove the offer if the order meets the eligibility rules. The safest approach is to check the exact entitlement language on the storefront account used for the pre-order.
Physical versus digital GTA 6 copies
Rockstar’s support information says the physical version contains a download code and that no disc is included in the box. In practice, “physical” means a retail package and code, not an offline disc install.

A code-in-box still depends on the platform account, internet connection and console storage. Buying the box does not avoid downloading the game. It also means that returning, reselling or giving away the package after the code has been revealed can be complicated: the value is in the unused code, not in a disc that another player can insert.
Code regions and retailer checks
PlayStation
PlayStation code redemption is tied to the region of the platform account. Rockstar recommends buying from a retailer in the same country as the account. A code purchased for a different market can fail to redeem even when the console model is compatible. Changing the console’s language or using a compatible PS5 does not change the account region restriction.
Xbox
Rockstar’s support page states that Xbox codes are not region-locked. You should still verify the seller, platform label and edition before paying, because a non-region-locked code does not protect you from buying the wrong console version or a fraudulent listing. Keep the order confirmation in case Microsoft or the retailer needs proof of purchase.
Checklist before buying a code-in-box
- Confirm the listing says PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S, not an older console.
- For PlayStation, match the retailer’s country to the country on your platform account.
- Confirm that the product is Standard; a physical Ultimate package is not offered.
- Check whether the listing is sold by an authorised retailer and whether the code is unused.
- Check the stated pre-order or purchase date so you know whether the Vintage Vice City Pack is included.
- Keep the receipt and packaging until the download, bonuses and any upgrade entitlement appear.
When can you preload GTA 6?
Digital pre-load begins November 12, 2026 at local midnight. That gives digital buyers time to download before the November 19 launch, although the game will not be playable before the official release time set by the platform. “Local midnight” refers to the console account’s applicable local storefront timing, so players in different regions may see the download become available at different moments.

Digital preload steps
- Pre-order GTA VI from the PlayStation Store or Microsoft Store while signed in to the account that will play the game.
- On November 12, open the console’s game library or the store’s downloads section after local midnight.
- Select GTA VI and choose the download or preload option.
- Leave sufficient free storage and keep the console connected to power and the internet.
- After installation, wait for the platform’s release entitlement on November 19; changing the console clock will not legitimately unlock the game.
Code-in-box preload steps
- Collect the Standard Edition package when the retailer makes it available, expected from November 12.

Can Standard owners upgrade to Ultimate later?
Yes. Rockstar says Standard owners can purchase the Ultimate Edition Upgrade later through the PlayStation or Microsoft storefront after redeeming the game code. This option is useful if you want to start at $79.99 and decide whether the extra content is worth the additional $20 after seeing the game.
The upgrade route does not make a physical Ultimate package available; the original Standard purchase remains a code-in-box or digital license, and the added Ultimate content is delivered digitally. Check the storefront’s product description and account region before completing the upgrade. The upgrade is attached to the account that owns the redeemed Standard game, so redeeming a box on the wrong account can create avoidable support problems.
Which edition should you buy?

There is no gameplay-performance advantage stated for Ultimate, and both editions contain GTA VI. Merchandise is separate from the game editions
The official Rockstar Store lists a Grand Theft Auto VI: The Goodtime State – Vice City Collection premium Collector’s Box for $399.99, inspired by Leonida’s fictional television show Macca the Gator. The store also lists GTA VI apparel and collectibles such as a tee, Zippo lighter, cap and tote.
These products are merchandise, not a game edition, and they do not replace a Standard or Ultimate purchase. Stock and availability can change, so confirm the store listing before treating the Collector’s Box or any apparel as available. The $399.99 Collector’s Box price should not be added to the $79.99 or $99.99 game prices as though it were a bundle; it is a separate store product.

Common problems and fixes
The code says it cannot be redeemed
On PlayStation, first check that the code’s country matches the platform account’s country. Verify that the code is for PS5 or Xbox Series X|S as appropriate, has not already been used and came from the retailer’s official packaging. Contact the retailer before discarding the receipt. On Xbox, although codes are not region-locked, an incorrect platform listing or already-used code can still prevent redemption.
The game is missing after redemption
Sign in to the same account used for redemption, open the full game library and check the console’s downloads queue. A code-in-box purchase still requires a complete digital download; the box itself does not install the game. If the download is unavailable, verify that the redemption confirmation shows GTA VI rather than only a promotional item or upgrade.

The pre-order items are not visible
Confirm that the order or purchase occurred before November 20, 2026 and that the account is online. The Vintage Vice City Pack includes the sedan and garage, outfits and hairstyles, and weapon pattern. Some Ultimate items are designed to appear through Jason and Lucia’s story chapters rather than all at once. Keep proof of purchase and contact the platform or Rockstar support if an eligible entitlement remains absent.

The PlayStation listing says the subscription auto-renews after the free month.
