Rockstar Games Customer Support lists Grand Theft Auto VI for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Xbox’s official game page independently lists Xbox Series X|S, while Sony’s PlayStation announcement describes a PS5 launch. These are the confirmed console families as of October 13, 2026.

“Supported” here means that the official platform listings identify the console family for the announced release. They do not reveal the internal settings the game will use on each model. Do not treat a trailer, the age of a console, or another demanding game as a substitute for an official requirement.

Do you need a PS5 Pro or Xbox Series X?
No official source reviewed says that a PS5 Pro or Xbox Series X is mandatory. The announcements confirm the PS5 family and Xbox Series X|S family, but do not rank the models or specify which one delivers a particular resolution or frame rate.
That leaves the decision to practical factors rather than a published GTA VI benchmark:
- If you already own a PS5, it is in the confirmed PlayStation family; there is no announced requirement to replace it with a PS5 Pro.
- If you own an Xbox Series S, Xbox lists the game for the Series X|S family. There is no official statement that Series S is excluded.

When is GTA 6 launching?
Take-Two Interactive Software’s June 24, 2026 announcement gives November 19, 2026 as the launch date for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Xbox and PlayStation listings show the same date. It is the currently announced date, not a guarantee that cannot change, so check Rockstar’s support page and your platform store close to release.

What editions and prices are available?
Rockstar’s support page lists Standard and Ultimate editions. Take-Two’s announcement gave the following US announcement prices:

These are US prices from the corporate announcement. Storefront pricing, taxes, currency conversion, and availability can differ by country and can change before launch. Rockstar says a Standard Edition owner can buy the Ultimate Edition Upgrade digitally after redeeming the game code. That means you do not have to decide between the two editions before activating Standard if the upgrade remains available in your region.
Digital pre-orders and purchases made before November 20, 2026 are described by Rockstar as including the Vintage Vice City Pack. Digital pre-orders also include one month of GTA+. Take-Two’s announcement describes the same bonuses. Treat these as time-sensitive terms and read the checkout page for your country before paying.
Is there a disc version?
Rockstar describes the boxed “physical” version as a package containing a download code, not a game disc. The distinction matters if you expect to install from optical media, lend the game, or resell a disc later: a code is redeemed to an account and does not provide those disc-based options.

The support page says boxed versions are expected to ship and be available for pickup beginning November 12, 2026, allowing customers to preload before launch. Retailer handling can vary, so confirm the delivery or pickup date and whether the box is sold for the country linked to your account.

What PS5 features does Sony describe?
Sony Interactive Entertainment’s PlayStation Blog says the game will use the PS5’s DualSense haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, controller speaker, Tempest 3D AudioTech, and SSD. These describe platform features that Sony says the game will take advantage of; they are not independent measurements of image quality or frame rate.
Mary Yee, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s senior vice president of marketing, wrote: “Thanks to the close partnership between Sony Interactive Entertainment and Rockstar Games, Grand Theft Auto VI will play best on PS5 by taking advantage of PS5’s immersive features to deliver a deeply engaging single-player experience when it launches on November 19.” That is Sony’s platform-holder characterization and should not be read as a neutral comparison with Xbox hardware.
If these controller and audio features matter to you, they are a legitimate reason to prefer the PlayStation version. The cited sources do not establish that they make PS5 faster, sharper, or more stable than a particular Xbox model.

Since no official performance table exists, use a decision process based on what you already own and the ecosystem you use.

- Check your current console. A PS5 or either Xbox Series model is in the announced platform families. Buying another machine may be unnecessary.
- Compare your existing library and friends list. Multiplayer communities, purchased games, subscriptions, and saved-payment arrangements can make one platform more convenient.
- Check local pricing and stock. Console prices are regional and can change independently of the game’s US edition prices.
- Consider the feature preference. Sony specifically highlights DualSense effects, Tempest 3D AudioTech, and SSD use. Select PlayStation if those features are important to you; do not assume they prove a performance lead.
- Check the exact store listing. Confirm edition, currency, bonus eligibility, release date, and whether the purchase is a download code before completing checkout.
No cited source establishes a required headset, extra controller, storage expansion, television specification, or premium console. Those may improve your personal setup, but they are not published GTA VI requirements.

Rockstar warns that code redemption depends on the region associated with the platform account. Its guidance recommends buying from a retailer in the country of that account to avoid activation problems. A cheaper code from another market can therefore create a practical problem even when the console itself is compatible.
The support information lists PlayStation regional groupings and says Xbox codes are not region-locked. It also notes a Japan-specific expiration rule: codes issued for Japan expire 170 days after issuance because of regional regulations. Check the country, account region, code type, and expiration terms before purchasing a boxed code or gift.

The official support and announcement pages cited for this article list only PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. They do not announce a PC edition, a PC release date, or PC hardware requirements. The accurate answer is therefore that a PC version is not confirmed in these materials. That is different from claiming that a PC release will never happen.

Do not buy a graphics card or rebuild a computer based on unofficial minimum-speculation. Wait for an official PC announcement and requirements if Rockstar publishes them.
