Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026. Rockstar has not yet published the game’s graphics-mode names, resolution targets, HDR controls or PS5 Pro behavior. Current secondary reporting places the launch target at 30 frames per second on PS5 and Xbox Series consoles, but that is a reported development status rather than an official Rockstar settings specification.

That means you should not assume a native-4K mode, 60 FPS performance mode, 40 FPS option or PS5 Pro enhancement. You can prepare an HDR-capable display correctly now, then verify the final menu and patch notes when the game launches.

What Rockstar has confirmed

Platforms and release date

Rockstar has confirmed GTA VI for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The scheduled launch date is November 19, 2026. No PlayStation 4, Xbox One or PC edition has been included in the official platform announcement covered here, so those versions should not be treated as launch options.

Rockstar’s GTA VI website labels the PlayStation 5 edition “Plays Best On.” That is an official marketing line, not a measured promise of higher resolution, a faster frame rate or exclusive graphics features. Rockstar has not explained what practical advantage, if any, the wording represents.

Acer Nitro 27in 4K 3840x2160 IPS 160Hz DFR 320Hz Gaming Monitor VG270K V4 | 0.5ms, AMD FreeSync Premium, 2xHDMI 2.1, DisplayPort, Speaker, VESA Mountable, Bluelight Filter, Flickerless Technology
  • Quality Visuals: The VG270K 27" IPS monitor with 3840 x 2160 UHD resolution in a 16:9 aspect ratio presents stunning, high-quality images with excellent detail. The zero-frame design does away with the thick frames found on conventional monitors freeing up precious screen space.
  • AMD FreeSync Premium Technology: Say “goodbye” to stuttering and tearing. With AMD FreeSync Premium, the monitor’s frames are synced with the graphics card’s frames, which eliminates screen tearing and provides the smoothest gaming experience.
  • Quick Refresh Rate: Different content has different refresh rate and resolution requirements. If you are playing an FPS or racing game, you will need a monitor with a high refresh rate. However, if you are doing office work or streaming videos, a higher resolution will be more beneficial. With DFR technology, users can choose a higher resolution, or a higher refresh rate based on what is suitable for them.
  • Responsive: Up to 0.5ms GTG (Gray to Gray) response time enhanced gamers’ in-game experience. No matter if the fast-moving action or any dramatic transitions will be rendered smoothly without the annoying effects of smearing or ghosting.
  • ZeroFrame Design: With a Nitro VG270K monitor, you’ll want to see as much of the display as possible. Get more real estate with the near bezel-less design, allowing you to see more and do more. The ZeroFrame design lets you place multiple monitors next to each other for a seamless, almost uninterrupted view.

The currently reported frame-rate target

GamesRadar reported that Rockstar development executive Rob Nelson said the game is expected to launch at 30 FPS on PS5 and Xbox Series consoles for now. This is the only quantitative GTA VI performance figure reported in the material available for this article. It should be read as the current launch target, not as a final published specification or a guarantee that every scene will hold an identical frame time.

Rockstar has not released a performance-mode table showing separate quality and performance presets. Until it does, claims that GTA VI will launch at 60 FPS, or that a 60 FPS mode is guaranteed by a future patch, are speculation.

4K output: what is and is not known

No published GTA VI resolution target

Rockstar has not published a GTA VI resolution target in the official material reviewed. There is no confirmed native-4K mode, reconstructed-4K target, dynamic-resolution range or per-console output specification.

A console can send a 4K signal to a television even when a game renders internally below 3840×2160. The console’s output resolution and the game’s internal render resolution are different measurements. A 4K icon on your TV therefore will not prove that GTA VI is rendering every frame natively at 4K.

Do not carry over GTA V settings

Grand Theft Auto V’s console modes are not evidence for GTA VI. A previous game’s 4K, ray-tracing or frame-rate options cannot establish what Rockstar will ship in this much newer title. Wait for the GTA VI menu, technical documentation or launch patch notes before treating any named mode as real.

HDR: practical setup guidance

Rockstar has published general HDR troubleshooting guidance, but no GTA VI-specific HDR slider values, paper-white target, peak-brightness recommendation or calibration screen has been documented. The following preparation is therefore display troubleshooting, not a list of hidden GTA VI settings.

Display and connection requirements

  • Use a television or monitor that genuinely supports HDR, not merely a model that accepts a 4K signal.
  • Connect the console through an HDMI 2.1-compatible connection where available. Use a certified cable capable of the bandwidth your console and display require.
  • Enable the display’s Game Mode if it has one. This normally reduces processing delay compared with a cinema or vivid preset.
  • During troubleshooting, turn off AI, Smart, Dynamic and Adaptive picture enhancements. These features can change brightness from scene to scene and make calibration difficult.
  • Disable Dynamic Tone Mapping and enable HGIG when the display offers those controls. This follows Rockstar’s general recommendation and is not proof that GTA VI will expose a matching in-game option.

A sensible first-time HDR process

  1. Update the television or monitor firmware and the console system software before starting calibration.
  2. Plug the console directly into an HDMI 2.1 input on the display rather than routing it through an older receiver or switch.
  3. Turn on HDR support in the display’s input settings, then enable the console’s HDR output.
  4. Switch the display to Game Mode and temporarily disable dynamic contrast, automatic brightness, AI picture processing and similar enhancements.
  5. Run the console’s own HDR calibration utility, following the on-screen visibility instructions. Do not invent GTA VI slider values while the game’s menu remains undocumented.
  6. Launch GTA VI after release and check whether the game offers a separate HDR calibration screen. If it does, use the in-game instructions rather than copying settings from another title.

Symptoms and likely causes

Symptom What to check first
HDR option is unavailable Confirm that the display supports HDR, HDR is enabled for the selected HDMI input, and the console is connected to an HDR-capable port.
Picture looks gray or washed out Check that the display is actually switching into HDR mode, then disable competing dynamic-processing features and repeat the console calibration.
Highlights look clipped Turn off Dynamic Tone Mapping while testing and use HGIG if supported; then rerun the console’s HDR calibration.
Colors or brightness change during play Disable AI, Smart, Dynamic or Adaptive picture modes and retest in Game Mode.
Intermittent black screen or signal loss Try a direct HDMI connection, verify the cable and use the display’s HDMI 2.1 port. An older receiver or switch can be the limiting component.

How to think about frame-rate modes

The reported 30 FPS launch target means consistency and image quality are likely to be the initial priorities, but Rockstar has not described its frame-time behavior or graphics presets. A stable 30 FPS presents each frame for about 33.3 milliseconds; an unstable mode can feel worse even when an on-screen counter briefly shows 30.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If Rockstar adds other options, compare them by frame-rate target, frame-time stability, internal resolution, reconstruction method, lighting or ray-tracing features, HDR behavior and console tier. A mode labelled “performance” is not automatically better if it lowers image quality substantially or fluctuates around its target.

Possible target What it would mean Display requirement Status for GTA VI
30 FPS Lower refresh demand and more room for complex rendering, provided frame pacing is consistent. 60 Hz or higher display is sufficient. Reported launch target; not an official Rockstar settings table.
40 FPS A middle ground that improves motion over 30 FPS while allowing more rendering time than 60 FPS. Usually requires a 120 Hz display because 40 divides evenly into 120. Not announced.
60 FPS Shorter 16.7-millisecond frame intervals and noticeably smoother camera movement. 60 Hz or higher; 120 Hz can provide additional output flexibility. Not announced or promised.
Unlocked or variable frame rate Frame rate can rise and fall with workload; VRR may reduce visible tearing. A display and console connection that support VRR, if the game enables it. Not announced.

Do not buy a 120 Hz display solely on the assumption that GTA VI will include a 40 FPS or 60 FPS mode. Those modes may never be shipped, and no official announcement currently establishes them.

Console-by-console expectations

PlayStation 5

PS5 is the only console Rockstar explicitly positions with the phrase “Plays Best On.” The statement does not identify a resolution, frame-rate or feature advantage. Treat the standard PS5 version as an announced platform with an unspecified graphics menu.

Xbox Series X

Xbox Series X is an announced launch platform. Rockstar has not published a separate Series X resolution target, performance preset or HDR behavior. Do not infer parity or a difference from the console’s hardware specifications alone.

Xbox Series S

Xbox Series S is also included in the announced Xbox Series X|S support. No Series S-specific resolution, frame-rate or graphics-mode details have been released. Its eventual settings may differ from Series X, but the nature of any difference is unknown.

  • Ultra-thin bezel: Designed with a sleek, modern aesthetic and an ash white finish, this display features ultra-thin bezels for a refined, minimalist design.

PlayStation 5 Pro

No official GTA VI target for PS5 Pro has been found. Rockstar has not confirmed a Pro-specific patch, enhanced resolution, improved ray tracing, higher frame rate or an image-quality mode. A PS5 Pro may offer system-level hardware capabilities, but that does not establish game support.

How to verify the final settings at launch

Use this process instead of relying on pre-release screenshots or retailer descriptions:

  1. Install the launch version and every day-one update available for your console.
  2. Open the game’s graphics, display or video menu and record the exact names of every preset. Note whether the menu reports a target frame rate or resolution.
  3. Check for separate toggles for HDR, brightness, paper white, peak luminance, motion blur, ray tracing, VRR and 120 Hz output.
  4. Read the launch patch notes for performance or display fixes. A patch can change behavior without changing the marketing name of a mode.
  5. Test movement in a busy area and during driving, not only in an empty interior. Look for uneven frame pacing, stutter, tearing or brightness shifts.
  6. If your display reports 4K, remember that this describes the signal leaving the console, not necessarily the game’s internal rendering resolution.
  7. For HDR, compare the game’s calibration image with the console calibration and make one change at a time. Restore the display’s dynamic-processing settings only after you have established a stable baseline.

Physical edition and pre-loading

Rockstar’s support information says the physical console package contains a download code and that “A disc will not be included in the box.” The physical package is therefore not an offline disc installation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Rockstar says physical copies are expected from November 12 for pre-loading, while the game’s launch remains November 19. Availability can vary by region and retailer, so check the local listing and redemption instructions before purchase. You will need an internet connection to redeem the code and download the game.

What to prepare before November 19

  • A supported PS5, Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S with enough storage for the final download and updates.
  • An HDR-capable television or monitor, with its HDR input mode enabled.
  • An HDMI 2.1 connection where available, with the console connected directly to the appropriate display input.
  • Game Mode enabled and dynamic picture-processing features disabled while you establish a baseline.
  • Current console software, display firmware and the latest GTA VI patch.
  • Realistic expectations: the only reported launch target is 30 FPS, while exact 4K, HDR-menu and PS5 Pro details remain unpublished.

Once Rockstar documents the final graphics menu, the meaningful comparison will be between the actual presets on each console—not assumptions based on GTA V, television labels or unverified claims of 60 FPS and native 4K.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
