GTA 6 community maps are fan-made reconstructions, not official Rockstar maps. They are useful for organizing trailer clues and testing location theories, but Rockstar has not released a complete map, official borders, a scale, a coordinate grid or exact coordinates. Read each pin’s evidence label, check the project’s dated changelog, and treat estimated positions as provisional.
What a GTA 6 community map can—and cannot—tell you
A community map combines information from Rockstar’s named locations, features visible in official trailers and screenshots, and geographic guesses made by fans. Those sources do not have equal status. A destination that Rockstar names is stronger evidence than a proposed town inferred from a road shape, while a pin placed from a trailer landmark remains an interpretation until Rockstar identifies it.

The Leonida Survey, GTAMI and the open-source GTAVIMap project all describe their work as independent or community reconstruction. None represents a final Rockstar map. Their drawings can help you orient yourself, compare trailer scenes and follow new discoveries, but they should not be treated as canon or as a promise of the game’s final playable boundaries.

When will the GTA 6 community map update?
There is no single update calendar for GTA 6 community maps and no Rockstar-controlled feed that keeps every project synchronized. Each site decides when to redraw its basemap, add a pin or revise an interpretation. Check the individual project’s changelog rather than assuming that a recently shared screenshot reflects the latest version.
The Leonida Survey’s dated update run
The Leonida Survey records a concentrated series of changes in July 2026:
- On July 19, six destination guides and evidence labels were added.
- On July 19–20, selected official screenshots and an illustrated basemap were incorporated.
- On July 22, timestamped trailer evidence was added.
Those dates describe that project’s documented work, not a recurring weekly or monthly schedule. A quiet period may mean that no new source material has appeared, that editors are checking an interpretation, or simply that the project has not posted an update.
GTAVIMap’s release roadmap
The open-source GTAVIMap project says it is in countdown mode until November 19, 2026 and plans to add official map tiles and location data at release. This is a project roadmap, not a guaranteed delivery date or evidence that Rockstar has already published those assets. Recheck the project after launch to see what was actually released and which data is sourced.

How to check whether a pin is new
- Open the map’s changelog or update history.
- Look for the date attached to the specific pin, layer or screenshot.
- Read whether the change cites Rockstar material, a visible trailer detail or a community inference.
- Compare the current legend with an older screenshot; a color or label change can alter the meaning of an existing pin.
- Record the map version or update date when sharing a location with someone else.
Which GTA 6 locations are confirmed?
Rockstar material currently names six destinations catalogued by the Leonida Survey. “Confirmed” here means Rockstar has used the destination name in its official material; it does not mean that Rockstar has published an exact border, location pin or scale for each area.

The six destinations are different from the fifteen places shown in the GTAMI community reconstruction. “Shown” means that GTAMI has represented fifteen places in its reconstruction; it does not turn every represented place into an officially named Rockstar destination.
What do the GTA 6 map colors and legends mean?
A useful legend is a confidence-and-provenance system, not merely a color key. Preserve it whenever you save a screenshot, embed a map or quote a pin, because removing the legend can make an estimate look like an official fact.
Official
This label is for a destination, person or fact named on Rockstar’s official pages or in its media library. It identifies the source as Rockstar material, but it does not automatically provide a coordinate, border or measured size.

Observed in media
This label covers a feature visible in an official trailer or screenshot when Rockstar has not supplied a formal place name. A recognizable bridge, skyline, road junction or landscape can be recorded as observed without claiming that its in-game name or exact position is known.
Community estimate
This label marks a proposed position inferred from public images, landmarks and geographic relationships. It is a working hypothesis. Estimates can move when a new trailer frame changes the apparent angle, when a landmark is identified differently or when a project redraws its basemap.
How to use the legend when comparing pins
- Give official labels priority when answering “what is confirmed?”
- Use observed labels to locate a scene without assigning an unverified name.
- Use estimates for orientation and theory testing, never as exact navigation coordinates.
- Keep the label attached when copying a pin into a post, video or article.
Does GTA 6 have official map coordinates yet?
No authoritative GTA VI coordinate grid is public. The Leonida Survey states that Rockstar has not published an official coordinate system, exact coordinates, complete borders, land area, road network or official scale. A number displayed by a community map therefore belongs to that project’s own reference frame, if it has one; it is not a Rockstar coordinate.
Estimated pins can still be useful. They allow readers to compare the relative direction of two locations, match a trailer scene to a likely landscape and see how competing geographic theories fit together. Their usefulness depends on the map clearly identifying them as estimates and documenting the evidence behind the placement.

Why an apparent precision can be misleading
A pin with several decimal places may look scientific while resting on an uncertain visual match. Precision in the display does not create precision in the underlying evidence. Do not convert a community pin into latitude and longitude, a distance in miles or a measured map size unless the publisher explains a reproducible scale and coordinate method.
How to report a location responsibly
State the project name, update date and evidence label together. For example, describe a point as a “community estimate on the July 2026 map” rather than presenting it as an official coordinate. If a new version moves the pin, update the description instead of silently preserving an obsolete number.

- Open the map in a current mobile browser rather than relying on an old saved page.
- Allow the page to finish loading before zooming; large basemaps and image layers can appear progressively.
- Use the site’s search field, if available, to jump to a named destination.
- Open the category or evidence filters and isolate official, observed or estimated pins.
- Tap a pin to read its description and source information; do not infer its status from color alone.
- Pinch to zoom and drag with one finger. If a map intercepts normal page scrolling, use its on-screen controls to move between the map and the legend.
- Before sharing a screenshot, include the legend, project name and update date so the image retains its context.
Mobile limitations to expect
- A touch-friendly layout may hide filters behind a menu or bottom sheet.
- Many simultaneous pins can make a phone viewport crowded; filtering by evidence level improves readability.
- Performance and controls vary between projects, so a map that works smoothly on one phone may feel slow on another.
- Offline access is not established for these projects; assume an internet connection is required unless the publisher documents a downloadable mode.
How the major community-map projects differ
Choose a map according to evidence handling and usability, not according to a claimed total area. No project can provide a definitive size comparison while Rockstar withholds the measurements required for a reproducible scale.

When two maps disagree, compare their source links, evidence labels, changelog dates and assumptions about landmarks. A disagreement is often a difference in interpretation rather than proof that one project has an official answer.
A practical method for researching a trailer location
- Capture the original frame. Note the trailer or screenshot and its timestamp so another reader can inspect the same evidence.
- Describe only what is visible. Record roads, water, mountains, buildings or vegetation without assigning a place name prematurely.
- Check Rockstar’s named destinations. See whether the scene could belong to Vice City, Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia or Mount Kalaga National Park.
- Compare multiple community maps. Look for relative relationships rather than exact distances.
- Read each project’s legend and pin notes. Separate official facts from observed details and estimates.
- Log the version date. A later changelog may move or relabel the pin.
- Share the uncertainty. Present the result as an observed clue or community estimate unless Rockstar has named it.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
- Calling a fan map “the official map.” Replace that wording with “community reconstruction” and identify the project.
- Treating every colored region as a confirmed border. Check whether the legend marks it official, observed or estimated.
- Assuming a project roadmap is a promise. GTAVIMap’s November 19, 2026 countdown describes an intended plan, not a guaranteed Rockstar release.
- Repeating an old pin as current. Include the changelog date and look for later revisions.
- Inventing coordinates from a screenshot. No official grid or exact coordinate set has been published.
- Using a basemap to compare game sizes. The illustrated basemap is not to scale, and Rockstar has not released the measurements needed for a definitive GTA VI-versus-GTA V comparison.
- Sharing cropped mobile screenshots. Keep the legend and evidence label visible so estimates are not mistaken for facts.
What to expect as release approaches
Community maps will likely change as new official media appears and, if Rockstar publishes map assets at release, as those assets can be checked against earlier reconstructions. The sensible habit is versioned reading: save the project name, date, legend and source note with any location you cite. That preserves what was known at the time and prevents a provisional theory from becoming a permanent “fact” through repetition.
