Motor Wars is a GTA Online adversary mode, not a separate GTA 5 story activity. In classic Motor Wars, players parachute from a Cargobob into a battlefield with only a sidearm; the last survivors win. Rockstar also added a Cayo Perico version, whose launch description specifies a shrinking play area. Exact access, playlists and payouts can change with weekly updates, so check the current in-game activity list before you queue.
What is Motor Wars in GTA Online?
Rockstar describes classic Motor Wars as a drop from an idling Cargobob into an active combat area. Players begin with only a sidearm, and the survivors win. The format makes the opening moments important: you arrive exposed, need to find useful equipment, and must judge whether to seek cover or move toward resources.

Rockstar later added a version set on Cayo Perico. Its island setting and shrinking-area mechanic are specific to that version; they should not be assumed to apply to every classic Motor Wars arena. Rockstar’s update note confirms that players could play a Motor Wars version on Cayo Perico: Rockstar’s title update notes.
Where do you find Motor Wars?
Rockstar’s launch instructions for the Cayo Perico version pointed players to the Cayo Perico Series, Quick Join on the in-game iFruit, or a map blip at Terminal. Those directions came with the July 2025 launch announcement and may not match the current menus. Look in the current online activity and series lists; Rockstar can rotate modes and access routes as part of weekly updates.

There is no complete official roster of classic Motor Wars arena names, exact coordinates or player spawn points in the cited information. Avoid treating a guessed map pin or landing point as an official location.

The six-area description belongs to the Cayo Perico launch announcement, not to Motor Wars universally. Rockstar framed its tactical choices there around air, roads and underbrush, but did not publish a guaranteed winning route.

How can you improve your chances of surviving?
In Cayo Perico Motor Wars
- Track the boundary. Because the launch description specifies six shrinking areas, watch the safe area and move toward the next one before the boundary forces a hurried crossing. This is a practical deduction from the stated mechanic, not a Rockstar strategy tip.
- Choose routes with the terrain in mind. Rockstar’s description calls out air, roads and underbrush as tactical options. Check what is available around you before committing to a route.
- Weigh the trade-off of using a vehicle. A vehicle may help with movement, but the official description provides no comparative survival data showing that vehicles are always safer.
In either version
- Use cover and watch approaches. These are general combat fundamentals, not documented Motor Wars exploits or proven winning tactics.
- Adapt to the version you entered. The shrinking-area advice applies to the Cayo Perico version as described at launch; do not assume the same zone behavior in a classic arena.
Rockstar’s published descriptions do not establish a best weapon, vehicle, landing coordinate, route or team strategy. Treat specific claims of a guaranteed setup or statistically best path with caution unless they are supported by current evidence.

Rockstar advertised double GTA$ and RP for the first two weeks of Cayo Perico Motor Wars at launch in 2025. A separate 2022 event announcement also promoted double GTA$ and RP for classic Motor Wars. Both are historical, time-limited promotions—not evidence of today’s payout. Check the current weekly update or in-game activity details for live rewards.

What do you need to play?
Motor Wars is part of GTA Online in GTA 5. Rockstar’s title-update documentation covers PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC Enhanced and Legacy editions. Check the listing and edition for your platform; owning the game alone does not guarantee that a particular mode is currently in rotation. No special controller, headset or other accessory is established as necessary for this mode.
