Grove’s published design says its Controllers can be upgraded without moving funds, and its changelog records a cross-chain Controller migration that included state migration. Those records support a review of Grove’s stated architecture and upgrade process—not an independent finding that every deployed version is compatible or safe. The public material reviewed here does not establish that deployed code, storage layouts, or migration tests were independently checked.
What Grove says about upgrade compatibility
Grove describes its Allocator as a non-custodial, vault-based system for deploying stablecoin capital under governance-defined mandates. Its FAQ characterizes the design as a hub-and-spoke system connecting onchain and offchain credit opportunities. For an upgrade review, the key question is how an implementation change affects custody, authority, controls, and the state held by each deployment—not simply whether a new version has been announced.

Custody, logic, and risk controls
Grove’s Protocol Security documentation describes three distinct components: ALMProxy holds funds, authorized Controllers provide operational logic, and RateLimits constrain capital movements. Grove says this separation allows Controller logic to be upgraded without migrating funds, and that a vulnerability in one layer does not automatically compromise the others. This is Grove’s description of its design, not an independently verified guarantee about deployed contracts.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →The same documentation describes a FREEZER role that can revoke relayer access and halt automated operations, along with configurable time-based limits on capital movement that refill linearly. These controls are relevant to upgrade safety because they address how operations can be constrained or stopped; their existence in documentation does not establish that a particular deployment is configured correctly or that every failure mode is covered.

What the changelog records
Grove describes its changelog as a chronological record of protocol spell executions, including parameter changes, onboardings, and infrastructure upgrades. The page inspected on October 5, 2026 had entries through August 27, 2026. Its entries offer concrete examples of system changes, but they are deployment summaries rather than complete compatibility test reports.
| Date | Recorded change | What the record establishes |
|---|---|---|
| April 23, 2026 | Avalanche ForeignController migration from v1.6.0 to v1.8.0, associated with a LayerZero V2 migration; the entry says cross-chain recipients were reset and existing state was migrated. | Grove recorded a version change and state migration. The entry does not, by itself, show the migration tests, complete state mapping, or post-migration verification. |
| July 2, 2026 | Initialization of the Diamond PAU system. | The changelog records initialization; it is not a full report on initialization safeguards or resulting state. |
| August 13, 2026 | Enabling a Uniswap V3 facet on the Grove Diamond PAU Controller. | The entry records an integration-related change; it does not document every interface assumption or deployment-specific check. |
These entries show that compatibility can involve more than Controller code: migration of existing state, recipient configuration, initialization, and integration facets all matter. The records do not establish that all chains or deployments share the same versions or configuration.

What a compatibility review needs to verify
Grove’s FAQ names Ethereum, Avalanche, Base, Plume, Monad, and Robinhood, and says the protocol integrates with Circle CCTP V2 and LayerZero, as well as Sky, Morpho, Aave, Uniswap, and Curve. It also identifies ERC-4626 and ERC-7540 interfaces. These are review dimensions, not evidence that all deployments currently use identical implementations or behave identically.
| Review area | Evidence to check | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Custody and control | Deployed ALMProxy and Controller addresses, authorization rules, and who can initiate or execute an upgrade. | Confirms whether the documented separation and access boundaries apply to the deployment being reviewed. |
| Emergency and movement controls | FREEZER permissions, relayer access, configured RateLimits, and the actual freeze and recovery paths. | Shows whether documented controls are present and usable in that environment. |
| Storage and state migration | Old and new verified source, storage-layout comparison, initialization state, migration code, and tests using representative existing state. | Helps detect incompatible storage changes, missed state, or unsafe reinitialization. |
| Chain and messaging configuration | Chain-specific addresses, bridge or messaging endpoints, recipient configuration, and message formats. | A version change or configuration that works on one chain may not establish compatibility on another. |
| Vault and protocol interfaces | ERC-4626 or ERC-7540 behavior, share accounting, and the versions and assumptions of integrated protocols. | Changes in interface semantics or external dependencies can affect deposits, withdrawals, accounting, or routing. |
| Audit and remediation scope | Reports tied to the specific component, version, deployment, findings, and remediation evidence. | An audit of one component or release does not automatically cover other versions or deployments. |
How much assurance do Grove’s stated audits provide?
Grove’s security documentation says each component receives at least two independent audit rounds per major version release, and that major findings are remediated and verified before production deployment. It names ChainSecurity, Spearbit/Cantina, and Certora and links component-specific reports, including reports for versions of Grove ALM Controller, Grove Gov Relay, and Grove X-Chain Helpers.

- Seedless by design, nothing to steal: Your private key is generated inside the EAL6+ chip and never leaves it. No seed phrase is shown or typed at setup, so a tampered device, keylogger, or phishing site has nothing to capture. 9+ years, millions of card.
- Tap once to manage your entire crypto wallet across 90 blockchains - no USB cables or Bluetooth, no batteries, no setup. Access 16,100+ coins & tokens, DeFi, NFTs, and staking instantly from your phone
- Backup without a seed phrase: Your wallet is copied to 2 backup cards with end-to-end encryption, so there are no words on paper to lose or leak. Keep them in separate places; if one card is lost, the others restore full access. Optional seed phrase for advanced users.
- Engineered to last up to 25 years: Waterproof (IP69K), shockproof and tested for extreme temperatures from −25°C to 50°C. A durable cold wallet with long‑term protection and independently audited security.

This is a description of Grove’s stated process. The audit count is not a safety score, and the documentation does not mean every report covers every current deployment or integration. To assess a specific upgrade, match the report’s scope and version to the deployed component, then check which findings were raised and how their remediation was verified.
What cannot be concluded from the public record
The documentation and changelog reviewed here do not establish that every deployed implementation is compatible, that every migration has been independently tested, or that the current onchain configuration matches the documentation. They also do not provide a complete independent score across Grove’s chains and components. A technical certification would require checking deployed addresses and verified source, upgrade authority and execution delays, storage and initialization state, cross-chain endpoints and message formats, and migration tests against representative state.

Verdict
Grove’s public materials describe a thoughtful separation of custody, operational logic, and risk controls, and its changelog records a concrete cross-chain Controller migration with state migration. That is useful evidence of a documented upgrade approach, but it is not a contract-level compatibility certification. A reader evaluating a particular upgrade should verify the exact deployment, version, migration, and audit scope rather than infer safety from the architecture description or changelog alone.
