Eligible Pokémon must be at or below 1,500 CP, and Mega-Evolved Pokémon are allowed. Mega Pokémon receive a temporary CP reduction for battles in this format, so their usual displayed CP is not their battle CP. Niantic’s season schedule and rules set the format details. The teams below are a guide’s recommendations, not verified rankings or measured win-rate leaders.
Three team options to consider
Akash Sil’s Sportskeeda guide, modified October 6, 2026, lists the following lineups and matchup concerns. Use its threat lists as prompts to assess coverage, not as guarantees of battle outcomes. No simulation settings, usage rates, or win rates are provided. Read the team guide.

Mimikyu, Altaria, and Melmetal
| Pokémon and role | Recommended moves | What to weigh |
|---|---|---|
| Mimikyu, lead | Shadow Claw, Shadow Sneak, Play Rough | The guide describes broad strengths and coverage, while listing Ghost and Ice weaknesses. It flags Stunfisk, Dunsparce, Marowak, Clodsire, and Mega Dragonite as threats. Moonblast and Double Iron Bash are marked event- or Elite TM-exclusive in the guide. |
| Altaria | Dragon Breath, Flamethrower, Moonblast | |
| Melmetal | Thunder Shock, Double Iron Bash, Dynamic Punch |
Mimikyu, Corviknight, and Mega Sableye
| Pokémon and role | Recommended moves | What to weigh |
|---|---|---|
| Mimikyu, lead | Shadow Claw, Shadow Sneak, Play Rough | The guide describes this as a front-loaded offensive line, but says Mega Sableye’s added bulk does not greatly increase the whole team’s bulk. Listed weaknesses are Electric, Fire, and Ghost; listed threats are Melmetal, Umbreon, Jumpluff, Furret, and Cramorant. Air Cutter and Iron Head are marked event- or Elite TM-exclusive. |
| Corviknight | Sand Attack, Air Cutter, Iron Head | |
| Mega Sableye | Shadow Claw, Dazzling Gleam, Foul Play |
Mimikyu, Shadow Ninetales, and Melmetal
| Pokémon and role | Recommended moves | What to weigh |
|---|---|---|
| Mimikyu, lead | Shadow Claw, Shadow Sneak, Play Rough | The guide characterizes this as more aggressive and less bulky. Listed weaknesses are Ghost, Ground, and Water; listed threats are Marowak, Vigoroth, Shadow Sableye, Araquanid, and Dunsparce. Ember, Energy Ball, and Double Iron Bash are marked event- or Elite TM-exclusive. |
| Shadow Ninetales | Ember, Weather Ball (Fire), Energy Ball | |
| Melmetal | Thunder Shock, Double Iron Bash, Dynamic Punch |
How to choose a lineup
- Check move access before spending: Several recommended moves carry an event or Elite TM marker in the guide. Confirm you can obtain the move before investing in a Pokémon for the lineup.
- Match the team’s profile to your play: The guide presents the Shadow Ninetales option as the more aggressive, less durable line; it describes the Corviknight team as pressure up front. Consider how comfortable you are with that trade-off.
- Use threat lists to inspect coverage: Compare the listed weaknesses and threats with opponents you actually encounter, then adjust if your team repeatedly struggles. Those lists do not guarantee a particular result.
- Account for Mega Energy: Mega Evolution has an initial Mega Energy cost. Later evolutions of the same Pokémon require less Energy over time.
What the Mega rules mean for preparation
Niantic says Mega Pokémon are ordinarily unavailable in GO Battle League, except in special event cups; Great League: Mega Edition is one such exception. Mega Evolution lasts eight hours. Niantic’s Help Center explains that it can be started from the GO Battle League Battle Party selection screen: “You can also Mega Evolve a Pokémon from the Raid Battle Lobby or when selecting your GO Battle League Battle Party.” See How can I Mega Evolve my Pokémon? and Using a Mega-Evolved Pokémon.
For this edition, Niantic says a Mega Pokémon’s CP is reduced temporarily for Great League and Ultra League Mega battles, then restored afterward. The format’s eligibility ceiling remains 1,500 CP. Check the current in-game Battle Party rules when building a team rather than assuming a Mega’s standard displayed CP is its battle CP.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Does a third Charged Attack change these recommendations?
A Pokémon.com feature dated October 2, 2026, reports that Super Max Level Mega-Evolved Pokémon gained access to a third Charged Attack following the 2026 Pokémon World Championships. That can affect team composition and battle decisions, but the feature does not rank Great League: Mega Edition teams or quantify the effect. It is not evidence that any of the three lineups above performs better. Read the Pokémon.com season feature.
