The award adds a large, multi-year wastewater project to Granite’s pipeline, but it does not mean Granite will immediately record $324.8 million in revenue—or disclose how much profit or earnings the job will contribute.
What Granite was awarded
The Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District (NEORSD) awarded the contract to the Granite-Super Joint Venture, according to Granite’s October 1, 2026 announcement. Granite put the total contract value at approximately $324.8 million. The release does not state Granite’s precise share of the joint venture, so the full headline amount should not be treated as Granite-only revenue.

The work includes 22,300 linear feet of tunnel with a 20-foot diameter and 3,115 linear feet of ancillary tunnels. Granite also lists shafts, diversion structures, gate and screening structures, control vaults, consolidation sewers, an overflow box culvert, sitework, restoration and utilities.

When the project is scheduled
Granite said construction was scheduled to start in fall 2026, with completion expected in winter 2030. These are announced estimates, not confirmation that either milestone has occurred.

How the tunnel fits Project Clean Lake
Granite describes Big Creek Tunnel as part of NEORSD’s Project Clean Lake, a $3 billion, 24-year program that began in 2011. The company calls it the program’s last of seven large-diameter combined sewer overflow storage tunnels.
Granite projects that completing the tunnel will eliminate 550 million gallons of combined sewer releases annually. That is the company’s stated expected benefit, not a measured outcome from a completed project.

What the contract means for Granite’s business
It adds to the project pipeline, not immediate sales
Granite said the award would be included in third-quarter 2026 Committed and Awarded Projects (CAP). CAP is a measure of project work in the company’s pipeline; it is not profit, cash received or revenue already recognized. With construction scheduled to extend to winter 2030, revenue recognition and cash flow will depend on project execution and timing.
The economics are not disclosed
The award announcement does not give Granite’s joint-venture allocation, project margins, cash-flow schedule or expected earnings contribution. Without those details, the contract’s $324.8 million headline value cannot be translated into a reliable estimate of Granite’s revenue, profit or per-share earnings.

How to put the award in context with Granite’s results
Granite’s July 30, 2026 second-quarter results provide company-wide context, but they do not isolate the Big Creek Tunnel award’s effect:
- CAP was $7.4 billion at June 30, 2026, up $250 million sequentially and $1.4 billion year over year.
- Second-quarter revenue was $1.46 billion. Adjusted net income was $101 million, or $2.16 per adjusted diluted share; the company also reported a GAAP net loss of $278 million, or $6.36 per diluted share.
- Granite attributed the GAAP loss to a $360 million non-operating loss on convertible-debt transactions. It reported $142 million in year-to-date operating cash flow.
- The company raised its 2026 revenue guidance to a range of $5.3 billion to $5.5 billion.
These are company-reported Q2 figures and guidance, not results for the quarter in which the award was announced. They show the scale of Granite’s overall business, but do not establish how much this specific contract will add.

What the award does—and does not—say about GVA stock
The award is a positive pipeline development in a public-infrastructure project and aligns with Granite’s stated tunneling capabilities. Granite Tunnel Division Vice President Jim Nickerson said the project’s scale and complexity align with the company’s strengths in large-diameter tunneling and shaft construction. That is the company’s view of strategic fit, not an independent assessment of project profitability.

A stock reaction would need to be assessed against share-price and volume data around the announcement and other market-moving developments; the award value by itself is not a basis for a price target or a buy-or-sell conclusion.
