In 2026, the standard seven-day entrance fee is $35 per private vehicle, $30 per motorcycle, or $20 per person entering without a vehicle; separate permits are required for overnight backpacking and all watercraft. Pack according to your activity, and check park alerts and seasonal conditions before you go.
Do I need a reservation to enter Grand Teton?
No. The National Park Service (NPS) says reservations and timed entry are not required to enter the park, and visitors may arrive at any time. Lines and crowding are possible during popular periods. Entrance admission is separate from lodging, campground, and activity arrangements; book those separately, and early, because they can fill months ahead. See Grand Teton fees and passes.

How much is the Grand Teton entrance fee in 2026?
The NPS lists these standard seven-day entrance fees for 2026:
| Entry type | 2026 fee | Validity and conditions |
|---|---|---|
| Private, non-commercial vehicle | $35 | Seven days |
| Motorcycle | $30 | Seven days |
| Visitor entering on foot, bicycle, ski, or similar means | $20 per person | Seven days; applies to visitors aged 16 or older |
The NPS also lists an additional $100 fee for non-U.S. residents aged 16 or older, unless they enter with an Annual or America the Beautiful Pass. Check the park fee page for eligibility, pass rules, and exceptions before travel. Fee operations have been cashless since May 1, 2026, according to the NPS fee FAQ.

Which activities require permits?
For ordinary sightseeing and day hikes, an entrance pass is the relevant park entry payment. A permit is required for overnight backcountry camping and for every watercraft, including non-motorized boats, stand-up paddleboards (SUPs), and windsurfing boards. Special events, including weddings and commitment ceremonies, also require permits. Check activity-specific requirements on the NPS fees and passes page and the boating page.
How do Grand Teton backcountry permits work?
Overnight backpacking requires a backcountry permit, and its fee is separate from park admission. For 2026, the NPS lists a flat $20 permit fee plus $7 per person per night. About two-thirds of permits are available as walk-ups. From May 1 through October 31, walk-up permits are first-come, first-served and may be obtained one day before the trip begins; during that peak-season period, they cannot be issued by phone or online.

Bring approved bear-resistant food storage unless your campsite has a provided food-storage box. The NPS requires an Interagency Grizzly Bear Committee-approved container where boxes are not provided. Keep food, garbage, toiletries, and other odorous items secured when they are not in immediate use. Backcountry permit holders can check out a bear canister free, so purchasing one is not necessary if borrowing is available. See the NPS bear-resistant food storage guidance and confirm arrangements for your trip.

What should I bring for boating or floating?
Each person boating or floating must have a properly sized, accessible U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket. Children under 13 must wear one while a vessel is underway unless they are inside an enclosed cabin. There are no lifeguards in the park, and the water remains cold even in summer. Every watercraft also needs a park boat permit, and boats entering the park must stop for an aquatic invasive species inspection. Check the NPS water-safety information and boating rules and permits before setting out.

Yes. The park is open 24 hours a day, year-round, but roads, campgrounds, visitor centers, and other facilities follow seasonal schedules. May through September is the most popular period. Before departure, check the NPS operating hours and seasons, current conditions, road status, and alerts for closures or construction that could affect your route or plans.
