Which racing game should you buy?
Choose Gran Turismo 7 if you play on PlayStation
- You own a PS4 or PS5 and want GT Campaign, collecting, tuning, Driving School and Arcade in one package.
- You want Sport Mode competition, including Daily Races and an official Online Championship.
- You have a PS5 and are interested in optional VR racing. GT7 supports PS VR2 on PS5, but VR is not required to play.
Choose Forza Motorsport if you play on Xbox or Windows PC
- You own an Xbox Series X|S or Windows PC and want Builders Cup, Free Play or Rivals.

GT7: campaign, collection and car culture
Gran Turismo 7 combines GT Campaign and Café progression with car collection, tuning, Arcade and Driving School. Its additional features include Sport Mode for online competition and Scapes for photographing cars in scenic settings. The PlayStation listing describes more than 100 cars added since launch, alongside its separate day-one car description; those storefront figures are publisher descriptions rather than an independently audited live inventory. Forza: build cars and race in structured events
Forza Motorsport centers its career on Builders Cup, which Turn 10 describes as focused on building cars. Free Play offers a separate way to race, while Rivals provides time-attack competition. Featured Multiplayer uses race-weekend structure and includes tire and fuel strategy as well as driver and safety ratings. Turn 10 documented further changes in Update 21 in 2025, including multiplayer event variety and manual grid ordering in private multiplayer; that update history does not, by itself, establish the game’s current service cadence. Platform compatibility
GT7’s official product information lists PS4 and PS5 versions. A PS4 digital owner may purchase a PS5 upgrade for USD $10, according to PlayStation; a PS4 disc is required to use the disc-based upgrade, and it cannot be used on a disc-free PS5. Forza Motorsport (2023) is listed for Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC, including the Microsoft Store and Steam. The cited official sources do not list a native Xbox One or PlayStation version. PlayStation says that only Arcade Mode is available while GT7 is offline. Its US listing says PS Plus is required for online play, which it describes as optional, and supports up to 20 online players with PS Plus. GT7 has an optional PS VR2 mode on PS5, making it a distinct choice for players who already own—or specifically want to use—that headset. PlayStation notes that VR play excludes 2-player split-screen and that the game is not compatible with PS VR2 Sense controllers. The headset is not necessary for standard play. How should you compare their car and track counts?
Be careful with headline totals. Turn 10’s October 10, 2023 launch announcement said Forza Motorsport had over 500 cars and 20 tracks. PlayStation’s current GT7 listing describes 37 tracks with 110 layouts, over 420 cars available from day one and more than 100 cars added since launch. Those GT figures are separate descriptions, and adding them would not establish an exact current car total. Nor does a count alone show which game has the cars, circuits or event variety you personally want. What about editions, add-ons and price?
GT7’s US PlayStation listing includes Standard and Digital Deluxe editions, with listed Deluxe extras including in-game credits, a Toyota GR Yaris, avatars and a soundtrack. Prices and availability can change, and the Forza official announcement does not establish current comparable prices for its Standard, Deluxe and Premium editions.
