Grab Thailand and OpenAI launched GO Forward with AI on October 14, 2026, a GrabAcademy partnership designed to teach more than 3,000 Thai drivers, delivery riders and merchants practical ways to use ChatGPT. The Thailand rollout is the first 2026 expansion of a two-year Southeast Asian program that aims to train 30,000 Grab partners.

What GO Forward with AI is

GO Forward with AI is an in-person AI-skilling program delivered through GrabAcademy. Rather than simply giving partners access to an AI chatbot, the initiative provides guided workshops built around everyday business, service and income tasks. Grab says the Thai program will reach more than 3,000 participants across its driver, delivery and merchant communities.

The launch extends a regional program that began in Singapore. OpenAI describes the broader effort as a two-year plan for 30,000 Grab driver, delivery and merchant partners across Southeast Asia. After Singapore, the program expands to Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines during 2026, with Malaysia and Vietnam scheduled for 2027.

Who will receive training in Thailand

  • Merchants and restaurant operators: training focuses on attracting customers, improving engagement and encouraging repeat business.
  • Drivers and delivery riders: training focuses on working more productively, serving customers effectively and identifying ways to improve or supplement earnings.

The announcement does not provide a public enrollment timetable, participant-by-participant allocation or completion target beyond the stated total of more than 3,000 Thai partners.

What the two courses teach

Grow Your Business with ChatGPT

The merchant module, titled Grow Your Business with ChatGPT: Attract, Engage & Retain Your Customers, is aimed at merchants and restaurant operators. Its stated topics include:

  • Using customer insights to understand demand and buying behavior
  • Creating visual branding materials
  • Writing social-media content
  • Analyzing customer reviews
  • Building customer-loyalty activities

The emphasis is on practical marketing and customer-retention work that smaller businesses may need to handle without dedicated marketing staff.

Grow Your Earnings with AI

The driver and rider module, Grow Your Earnings with AI: Smarter Shifts, Better Service & New Opportunities, covers:

  • Productivity and planning for shifts
  • Customer-service communication
  • Real-time translation
  • Personal financial budgeting
  • Marketing and personal branding
  • Ideas for supplemental income

This curriculum treats AI as a work assistant rather than a replacement for driving or delivery. It combines immediate service tasks with longer-term planning, such as budgeting and exploring additional income opportunities.

How the workshops are delivered

The regional delivery model uses half-day, face-to-face workshops based on the OpenAI Academy curriculum and adapted to local needs. Grab also plans to train GrabAcademy trainers, allowing the program to reach more partners through a growing group of local instructors instead of relying only on the initial workshops.

The announcement describes the format and subject areas, but does not publish a detailed lesson plan, required device specifications, assessment method, certificate, or publicly available registration process.

How this fits Grab’s existing AI tools

The training arrives after substantial reported use of Grab’s own AI assistants in Thailand:

GrabMerchant AI Assistant Merchants More than 275,000 merchants Introduced in 2025
Driver AI Assistant Drivers 120,000 drivers Officially launched in September 2026

Grab says the Driver AI Assistant was developed with OpenAI technology. The company has also described merchant and driver AI solutions developed with OpenAI and Anthropic. Those products are distinct from GO Forward with AI: the initiative is a human-training program intended to help partners use ChatGPT and other AI capabilities more effectively.

Grab and OpenAI’s longer partnership

The training builds on a strategic collaboration announced on May 30, 2024. That agreement covered AI solutions for Grab users, partners and employees and included an initial ChatGPT Enterprise pilot for Grab employees. In April 2025, Grab described its AI Merchant Assistant and AI Driver Companion work with OpenAI and Anthropic.

GO Forward with AI therefore adds structured workforce education to an existing product and enterprise relationship. OpenAI Asia Pacific Managing Director Kiran Mani said that access to AI alone is insufficient as capabilities advance; the program is intended to provide practical guidance as well.

Regional rollout schedule

Market Schedule stated in the announcement
Singapore Program began here
Thailand Launched October 14, 2026
Indonesia Expansion planned during 2026
Philippines Expansion planned during 2026
Malaysia Scheduled for 2027
Vietnam Scheduled for 2027

The regional goal is 30,000 Grab driver, delivery and merchant partners over two years. That figure is a target for the overall program, not a claim that all participants have already enrolled or completed training.

What is still unknown

Grab and OpenAI have not publicly disclosed completion rates, measured earnings changes, merchant sales results or other outcome data for the Thailand launch. They also have not announced a public affiliate, referral or commission scheme for the training. Partners interested in participation should rely on official GrabAcademy communications for eligibility and scheduling rather than assuming the workshops are open enrollment.
