GoTo and Grab Indonesia have reportedly agreed to cap commission at 8% on two-wheel passenger rides from July 1, 2026. The change is limited to that service and country; it is not a region-wide rule or a cap on delivery and other platform services. Meanwhile, the companies’ driver support takes different forms: GoTo announced a seasonal holiday bonus for eligible partners, while Grab reported increased driver incentives and fuel-crisis support in Q2 2026.
What the reported 8% commission agreement covers
ANTARA News reported in 2026 that GoTo and Grab Indonesia agreed to set commission at 8% for two-wheel online passenger rides beginning July 1, 2026. That scope matters: the report does not establish a rule for four-wheel rides, delivery, other services, or markets outside Indonesia. Nor does the report by itself establish the agreement’s legal instrument, enforcement details, or whether it has since been amended.

A lower commission can leave a driver with a larger share of an eligible fare before expenses, but the rate alone does not show how much a driver takes home. Actual net income also depends on trip volume, incentives, fuel and vehicle costs, waiting time, and other expenses. The available reporting does not quantify the change in a typical driver’s net earnings.

The measures should not be treated as equivalent. A commission rate changes the platform’s share of qualifying rides; a bonus or incentive is conditional support, and the GoTo announcement does not provide a comparable recurring per-trip amount. The available disclosures do not give a common basis for comparing either company’s driver net pay.

Grab’s Q2 results show the company-level trade-off
Grab reported that Mobility adjusted EBITDA was 8.6% of Mobility GMV in Q2 2026, down 9 basis points year over year, while it recalibrated incentives toward drivers. The company also reported committing more than $7 million during the quarter to support on-demand driver-partner earnings amid a fuel crisis. These are company-reported figures; they indicate a financial trade-off in Grab’s own reporting, not the exact cost of Indonesia’s commission agreement or an independent measure of driver income.
Grab also reported Q2 2026 revenue of $997 million and profit for the period of $235 million. Those company-wide results provide business context, but they do not show how much an individual driver earned after expenses. CEO and co-founder Anthony Tan said the company’s platform intelligence layer was “lifting driver and merchant-partner earnings, while improving our operating efficiency.” That is management’s characterization, not independent evidence of a rise in typical take-home pay. What the share-price claims do—and do not—show
The headline’s claims that GoTo is down 90% from its 2022 peak and Grab is down 50% over the past year are not verified here. To assess either percentage, the comparison needs a defined end date and a consistent price series—for example, closing prices or intraday prices, with clarity on whether prices are adjusted. Without that method and data, the percentages should not be treated as established figures or as proof of a particular cause.
Share-price performance and driver compensation are separate questions. A market decline does not by itself establish what a driver earns, what a company can afford, or whether a particular policy will improve take-home income.

What remains unknown about drivers’ actual earnings
Neither the reported commission agreement nor the company announcements establish a typical driver’s net earnings before and after the measures. That assessment would require comparable driver-level data covering fare revenue, platform deductions, incentives, working time, and operating costs. Company revenue, GMV, and adjusted EBITDA cannot substitute for those figures.
For company context, GoTo’s investor-relations materials list Q2 2026 results and highlight record bottom-line performance for On-Demand Services. Grab’s Q2 results report growth and positive profit for the period. Neither set of corporate results, on its own, resolves how much a driver keeps from an individual ride.
