The GoPro MISSION 1 PRO ILS is a compact cinema camera built around a native Micro Four Thirds (MFT) lens mount. GoPro lists a 50MP 1-inch sensor, a GP3 processor, and a 197 g body, with video modes reaching 8K at up to 60 fps in 16:9. Its defining compromise is that the small interchangeable-lens body requires manual focus and compatible manual-control lenses: it has no autofocus or electronic lens contacts. This is a manufacturer-specification review, not an independent hands-on assessment.
What the MISSION 1 PRO ILS is—and who it suits
The MISSION 1 PRO ILS is GoPro’s first interchangeable-lens cinema camera, with a native MFT mount. Unlike a compact camera with a built-in lens, it lets a filmmaker choose compatible MFT glass or, with a suitable adapter, some vintage, PL-mount cinema, and specialty lenses. That flexibility comes with a narrower compatibility envelope and a fully manual lens workflow. GoPro’s launch announcement describes the camera and its launch terms at GoPro’s MISSION 1 PRO ILS announcement.

It is most relevant to creators who value a small, mountable body and are comfortable choosing lenses carefully, setting focus manually, and accounting for lens and media costs. It is a less natural fit for anyone who expects autofocus or automatic lens control. GoPro calls the body rugged and weatherproof, but those are manufacturer descriptions rather than independently verified durability results.

#1 Best Overall
- 1” Sensor + Advanced Low-Light Performance: MISSION 1 PRO utilizes a 1” sensor (1.0-type sensor) that is larger than sensors found in most mobile phones and some compact cameras. The use of this larger sensor results in better low-light performance with less noise than the smaller sensors—making it ideal for capturing cinematic footage in all conditions including dusk, indoor and night shots.
- Best-in-Class Video With 8K Open Gate: 8K video delivers breathtaking image quality with 300% more resolution than 4K. MISSION 1 PRO takes it even further with Open Gate capture that uses the full image sensor for maximum height and width for the most post-production flexibility.
- Over 3 Hours of 4K Runtime + Faster Charging: The all-new 2150mAh Enduro 2 battery gives you longer runtimes than any other GoPro battery in all conditions. You’ll get over 3 hours of continuous 4K30 recording and over 5 hours of 1080p30 recording on a single charge while improved heat management helps prevent thermal shutdown. It’s also capable of rapid charging so there’s less downtime and more production time.
- 50MP Photos + 44MP Frame Grabs: MISSION 1 PRO takes up to 50MP photos in Single, Interval and Burst modes while giving you the option to let AI automatically adjust settings for night and low-light shots. You can also grab stunning photos up to 44MP from 4:3 8K videos using the GoPro Quik app.
- What's Included: MISSION 1 PRO Camera, Enduro 2 Battery, Removeable Lens Hood, Curved Adhesive Mount, Mounting Buckle + Thumb Screw, USB-C Cable
Lens compatibility is the key buying constraint
The MFT mount does not mean every MFT lens will work as expected. GoPro says a compatible lens must cover a sensor of at least 1 inch and provide manual focus plus either a fixed aperture no greater than f/4.5 or manual aperture adjustment. The camera has no electronic lens contacts, so lenses that depend on electronic focus, aperture, or other camera control are incompatible. GoPro says lenses are sold separately.
What to check before buying a lens
- Confirm that the lens image circle covers a 1-inch-or-larger sensor.
- Confirm that you can focus manually and set aperture manually, or that its fixed aperture is f/4.5 or faster (a numerically smaller f-number).
- For non-MFT glass, verify the exact adapter and lens combination rather than assuming an adapter supplies electronic functions the camera lacks.
- Decide whether the lens’s field of view and stabilization behavior suit the intended shot.
GoPro’s launch post names the Laowa 4.5–10mm f/2.8 CF Zoom Fisheye and Laowa 50mm T2.9 Macro APO MFT Cine as examples; the latter is described by GoPro as capable of up to 2x magnification. These are examples, not a complete compatibility list. See the compatibility details in GoPro’s launch announcement.

Manual focus, crop factor, and stabilization
Manual focus, not autofocus
The camera does not autofocus. Focus Assist, which GoPro says magnifies the image up to 8x, and Focus Peaking are aids for setting focus manually; neither turns the camera into an autofocus system. A manual-focus workflow can suit deliberate cinema setups, but is a practical limitation for fast-moving subjects or situations where the operator cannot keep adjusting focus.
Crop factor changes framing
GoPro lists an approximate 2.7x crop factor without stabilization and 3x with stabilization applied, relative to full-frame. Its example is a 17mm MFT lens giving roughly a 50mm full-frame-equivalent view. Treat these as GoPro’s approximate framing guidance; the stabilized crop is tighter than the unstabilized one.

Stabilization support depends on the lens
GoPro says HyperSmooth works with prime rectilinear lenses from 6mm to 500mm and identifies five supported fisheye lenses. It says rectilinear lenses were tested through 50mm for guaranteed performance; results with longer lenses may vary. Consequently, “has stabilization” is not enough to establish that a particular lens and focal length will deliver supported results. Check the current lens guidance on the official product page before building a setup around stabilization.
Video modes: distinguish standard from open gate
GoPro lists several high-resolution and high-frame-rate modes, but the aspect ratio matters when comparing them or planning a project. The maximum 8K frame rate is 60 fps for 16:9, while 8K open gate (4:3) is listed up to 30 fps. At 4K, GoPro lists up to 240 fps in 16:9 and up to 120 fps in 4:3. These are manufacturer-listed modes; the published specifications alone do not establish real-world image quality, recording limits, heat behavior, or battery endurance.

Price, release, and what the system costs
GoPro’s August 26, 2026 launch announcement set the U.S. launch MSRP at $699.99 and listed $599.99 for existing subscribers. A footnote says the $100 reduction applies to yearly subscribers upon subscription renewal. GoPro said global retail availability would begin in September 2026; its retail announcement placed the release in Q3 2026. These dated launch terms do not establish today’s street price, current stock, or availability from any particular retailer. GoPro says lenses and accessories are sold separately, and a usable setup also needs compatible glass and suitable recording media. Its product page recommends V30 or UHS-3 microSD. Verdict: a distinctive manual-lens option, with a real setup burden
The MISSION 1 PRO ILS has a clear proposition: a 197 g body, native MFT lens choice, and ambitious manufacturer-listed capture modes in a compact camera. Its central compromises are just as clear—manual focus, no electronic lens control, compatibility checks, and a separate lens purchase. The published specifications make it worth considering for a creator who wants a small camera around a deliberate manual-lens workflow. They are not enough on their own to establish image quality, reliability, or practical performance in the field.
