You choose and buy a compatible Micro Four Thirds (MFT) lens separately, then manage focus and aperture yourself. The result can be flexible and rewarding, but getting consistently sharp footage takes more planning and practice than using a fixed-lens camera.
What makes the MISSION 1 PRO ILS different?
The ILS is a camera body with an interchangeable MFT lens mount. GoPro lists a 50MP, 1-inch sensor and capture modes up to 8K60 and 4K240, as well as Open Gate modes up to 8K30 and 4K120. Those are manufacturer specifications, not a guarantee that every lens, scene or operator will deliver a particular image quality.

The body weighs 197g (6.95oz) before a lens is attached, according to GoPro, 2026. GoPro says the mount can accept compatible MFT lenses and adapters for vintage, PL-mount and specialty glass. The lens is sold separately, so the body price is not the cost of a complete shooting setup.
Why does good footage take more work?
You have to choose a lens before you can shoot
A fixed-lens action camera is ready to record with its built-in optics. With the ILS, you must select a compatible lens for the field of view and type of shot you want. GoPro’s compatibility guidance calls for manual focus and manual aperture control, or a qualifying fixed aperture; coverage for a sensor of at least 1 inch; and no reliance on electronic contacts with the camera. Check the current compatibility guidance before buying a lens or adapter: GoPro’s MISSION 1 PRO ILS announcement and compatibility information.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
GoPro has named examples from Venus Optics Laowa, including 4mm f/2.8 circular fisheye, 6mm T2.1 Zero-D MFT Cine, 7.5mm f/2 Zero-D, 9mm f/2.8 Zero-D, 17mm f/1.8 C-Dreamer and 4.5–10mm f/2.8 CF Zoom Fisheye lenses. These are examples, not a complete list or a blanket guarantee that every lens with an MFT mount will work.
Focus is your job
The ILS does not provide autofocus with a manual lens. GoPro highlights focus peaking and focus assist as aids, but they do not move the lens or keep a moving subject in focus for you. You need to set focus deliberately and account for subject distance and movement. TechRadar’s hands-on review describes a rewarding but demanding learning curve after a week of shooting, mostly with a manual Laowa prime; that is one reviewer’s experience, not a controlled comparison. It gives up some action-camera convenience
TechRadar reports that the ILS is weatherproof rather than waterproof and lacks horizon lock. In the same review, the fixed-lens MISSION 1 PRO is described as having a built-in lens, autofocus and 20m waterproofing. The trade-off is practical: interchangeable lenses allow more choice, while the fixed-lens model avoids lens selection and manual-focus setup. Choose based on whether lens flexibility matters more to your shooting than those conveniences.

- Match the lens to the shot. Decide whether you need a wide view, a fisheye look, or a more conventional perspective, then verify the exact lens against GoPro’s compatibility requirements. Do not assume that an MFT mount alone ensures compatibility.
- Set focus before the action. Use focus assist or peaking while framing and focusing manually. For moving subjects, rehearse at the expected distance and check focus in the actual shooting conditions rather than assuming the camera will track focus.
- Set exposure deliberately. Operate the lens aperture manually unless it has a qualifying fixed aperture. The camera’s exposure assistance can help with decisions, but it does not make the lens electronically controlled.
- Bring suitable recording media. TechRadar reports no internal storage and support for V30 and Class A2 microSD cards. Confirm current card recommendations and recording-mode requirements in GoPro’s documentation before a shoot.
- Use a monitoring workflow if it suits your setup. GoPro describes the Mission Monitor app as offering focus and exposure assistance. Its stated requirement is iOS 18 or later; check current app availability and requirements before relying on it on location.
What does the ILS cost compared with the fixed-lens model?
The ILS body was announced at a US MSRP of $699.99, or $599.99 for existing subscribers, according to GoPro, 2026. TechRadar reports body-only launch pricing of $699.99 / £599.99 / AU$1,099.95, with subscriber pricing of $599.99 / £509.99 / AU$949.95. These are launch figures, not a guarantee of today’s price or stock; check the seller and region. A compatible lens is an additional purchase.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.

For context, TechRadar’s review says the fixed-lens MISSION 1 PRO includes its lens and autofocus, and is waterproof to 20m. The ILS instead offers an interchangeable mount and manual lens control. The review’s comparison supports the distinction in convenience and protection, but does not establish a universal winner or a full current-price comparison between models.

Who is the ILS a good fit for?
- Consider it if you want to choose among compatible lenses, are comfortable setting focus and aperture manually, and value a compact body that GoPro says weighs 197g before the lens.
- Think carefully if you want a camera that is immediately ready to shoot, autofocuses, or can be used underwater without a separate protective solution. The ILS’s reported weatherproofing is not waterproofing.
- Budget for the whole kit rather than the body alone: include a compatible lens and suitable recording media, and allow time to learn your focus workflow.
