What is the rumored Fitbit Edge?
On October 4, 2026, 9to5Google reported that leaked retail comparison materials shared by Android Headlines identify a new Google wearable as “Fitbit Edge.” The materials reportedly describe a small display, notifications, apps, Bluetooth without Wi-Fi, support for Android and iOS phones, and battery life of up to seven days. The listed apps reportedly include Google Maps, media and music controls, and Find My Phone. 9to5Google’s report on the leaked retail assets is the basis for these details; Google has not confirmed them.

That reported mix suggests a device with more at-a-glance interaction than a screenless band, but less than the broader smartwatch experience implied by a Pixel Watch. “Between a fitness band and a smartwatch” is therefore a useful description of the leak, not a confirmed Google product category or promise of specific capabilities.
What the FCC filing does—and does not—tell us
A September report about FCC-listed model G8BL6, manufactured by Goertek, described clues including Bluetooth LE, GNSS/GPS, an e-label path suggesting a screen, a metal-frame antenna and ADB use during testing. The reporting interpreted these clues as possibly pointing to a Google fitness tracker, with Wear OS raised as a possibility; the absence of Wi-Fi also prompted questions. 9to5Google’s coverage of the FCC listing and Android Central’s report both treat the device identity as uncertain. The filing does not establish that G8BL6 is Fitbit Edge, nor does it prove the device runs Wear OS.

How it might compare with confirmed Fitbit Air
Google announced Fitbit Air on May 7, 2026. Unlike the rumored Edge, Air is a confirmed, screenless tracker designed for all-day and overnight health monitoring. Google lists Air alongside Pixel Watch 5 and Fitbit Charge 6 in its product comparison. That gives readers a useful reference point, but it does not verify any Edge specification.

What remains unknown about Fitbit Edge
The leaked materials and FCC-related reporting do not establish a final product specification. In particular, Google has not confirmed the product name, launch date, price, operating system, exact sensors, GPS behavior, water resistance, charging method, supported countries, or whether the reported battery estimate reflects real-world performance. There is no independent hands-on test of Edge in the cited reporting.

The leak reportedly says Bluetooth without Wi-Fi, but that alone does not settle how Maps, media controls or other features would work, or whether the device could perform any location-related function without a phone. Nor does the reported Android and iOS support establish minimum software versions. These details need an official product page or announcement before they can be treated as settled.

Should you wait for it?
If you want a device with a screen and app-like features in a compact tracker format, the Edge leak is worth watching—but it is not yet a product you can evaluate on confirmed specifications or buy at an established price. If you need a Fitbit now, Google’s official comparison includes the existing Charge 6 as well as Fitbit Air and Pixel Watch 5. Air is the confirmed screenless option; Pixel Watch is the smartwatch-oriented choice. Check Google’s current product listings for availability and details, since products and offers can change.
Band fit should not be assumed across models. Google describes Performance Loop, Active Band and Elevated Modern Band options for Fitbit Air, with some sold separately and color availability varying by country. No cited source establishes that Air bands fit the rumored Edge.
