Google’s free year of AI Pro for the Pixel 9 Pro was genuine, but it is no longer available to new claimants. The promotion covered the Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold, with 12 months of Google AI Pro in most markets (six months in Japan). Google’s listed redemption deadline was November 15, 2025, so a newly purchased phone cannot normally claim it now. Gemini on Wear OS is a separate, later rollout—not a bundled Pixel 9 Pro watch benefit.
What the Pixel 9 Pro promotion actually was
Google launched the offer on August 7, 2024 as a Google One subscription promotion attached to selected phones. Older materials called the plan Google One AI Premium and described its paid Gemini experience as Gemini Advanced. Google now uses Google AI Pro for the comparable subscription tier. The name changed; the promotion was still a time-limited trial, not a permanent Gemini upgrade.
The bundle historically included paid Gemini access, 2 TB of Google One storage, and Gemini features in Gmail, Docs, Meet, Sheets, and other Google services. Google’s current feature catalog can differ by country, age, language, account, device, app version, and rollout status, so the original offer should not be read as a guarantee of every present or future Gemini feature. See Google’s Pixel offer details and its current AI Pro benefits page.
Is the free year still available?
No. Google’s materials list November 15, 2025 as the end of the offer and redemption period. Google Store information separately required an eligible phone to be purchased and activated by October 31, 2025. Therefore, as of August 18, 2026, a person buying or activating a Pixel 9 Pro for the first time should treat the original promotion as expired.

- 128gb of storage
- Includes charging cord and box
- Excellent cosmetic condition
Someone who redeemed it before the deadline could keep using the trial until their own offer period ended. The 12 months began on the redemption date, not necessarily the phone’s purchase date, under the Google One offer terms.
Which phones qualified?
| Device | Original offer |
|---|---|
| Pixel 9 Pro | Google AI Pro trial, normally 12 months |
| Pixel 9 Pro XL | Google AI Pro trial, normally 12 months |
| Pixel 9 Pro Fold | Google AI Pro trial, normally 12 months |
| Pixel 9 | Not the same offer; Google documented a separate six-month Google One Premium 2 TB promotion for new Google One members |
The Japanese term was six months rather than 12. Market availability and exact terms were controlled by Google’s regional offer rules.

Eligibility was more limited than “any Google One member”
Google’s documentation included new Google One members, certain existing members on eligible 100 GB, 200 GB, 2 TB Premium, or Google AI Pro plans or trials, and Google Fi sponsored-plan members. It excluded several common account situations:
| Could qualify, subject to Google’s checks | Explicitly excluded or problematic |
|---|---|
| New Google One members | Google One family-plan users |
| Eligible 100 GB, 200 GB, 2 TB Premium, or AI Pro subscribers/trials | Members on a 5 TB plan |
| Google Fi sponsored-plan members | Accounts billed through a third party |
| Accounts meeting the market, device, and account requirements | Other incompatible or already-promotional subscription arrangements |
Eligibility was account- and billing-dependent. A used phone does not automatically carry an unused subscription entitlement, and Google’s terms do not promise transferability to a buyer’s account.

How redemption worked when the offer was active
These were Google’s historical instructions; a new buyer should not expect the banner to appear after the deadline.
From the Gemini app
- Open Gemini on the eligible Pixel 9 Pro, 9 Pro XL, or 9 Pro Fold.
- Tap Check eligibility on the offer banner. If it is missing, open the Google Account profile menu and choose Upgrade to Gemini Advanced.
- On the gift-box screen, tap Start Trial.
- Add a valid payment method and tap Subscribe.
From the Google One app
- Open Google One and sign in to the Google Account associated with the offer.
- If no offer appears, open Settings and select Check for offers.
- Tap Start Trial, enter a valid payment method, and tap Subscribe.
What happened after the free period?
A payment method was required at sign-up, and the membership was set to renew automatically after the offer period at the Google AI Pro or Google One price applicable to the account and market. Google does not provide one universal 2026 renewal price for every country or billing channel, so check the live subscription page rather than relying on an old promotion screenshot.

To avoid a charge, cancel before the offer period ends. Google says cancellation during the trial leaves the membership active through the end of that free period. Immediately after redemption, record the renewal date in the subscription page and verify which Google Account owns the membership; the end of the phone’s first year is not necessarily the billing date.
Existing storage plans
For an eligible existing member, starting the promotional AI Pro plan could cancel the current Google One plan immediately. Google said it would refund the unused remainder where applicable. Before accepting, check the replacement plan’s storage, billing date, and any displayed refund treatment so an important storage plan is not unintentionally changed.

What if the offer banner was missing?
- The redemption deadline had passed or the invitation had expired.
- The phone was not activated under the required conditions.
- The wrong Google Account was signed in.
- The account used a family plan, 5 TB plan, third-party billing, or another excluded arrangement.
- The promotion had already been redeemed.
- The device was purchased outside a qualifying market.
When the promotion was still valid, Google recommended checking eligibility manually in Gemini or Google One and contacting Pixel support if a qualifying offer did not appear. In 2026, a missing banner on a newly acquired phone is ordinarily explained by expiration rather than a setup fault.

Gemini on a watch is related to Google’s broader ecosystem but was not documented as part of the original Pixel 9 Pro AI Pro bundle. The promotion supplied Google Account benefits—Gemini access and Google One storage—not a free Pixel Watch, watch subscription, or separate Wear OS entitlement.
In July 2025, Google announced Gemini for compatible Wear OS watches, including selected Pixel Watch models and watches from Samsung, OPPO, OnePlus, and Xiaomi. Google’s support guidance cites select watches running Wear OS 4 or later. Depending on the model and rollout, users can invoke Gemini with “Hey Google,” a watch button, or the Gemini app icon. Availability can vary with watch hardware, Wear OS version, country, language, paired phone, internet connection, and gradual rollout status. A later Pixel ecosystem announcement also discussed Gemini on Pixel Watch, but that does not retroactively turn the 2024 phone promotion into a watch offer. Check the individual watch’s compatibility and current account requirements before buying.

Advice for used and refurbished Pixel 9 Pro buyers
- Do not pay a premium for a listing that advertises “one year of Gemini free” without verification.
- Before treating the promotion as part of the phone’s value, sign in with your own Google Account and check Gemini or Google One for an actual offer.
- Confirm that the phone was not already used to redeem the promotion and that your account is not in an excluded billing or family-plan category.
- Remember that an expired or previously redeemed offer may provide no additional value even if the handset itself is fully eligible hardware.
Pixel 9 Pro offer versus a current subscription
If you missed the deadline, Google AI Pro can be purchased directly through Google One. Compare the live price and benefits with your storage needs: the 2 TB allocation may matter more to heavy Google Photos, Drive, or Gmail users than the AI features. Conversely, occasional chatbot users may not need a paid plan. Current plan features and limits can change, so use Google’s live account page for the final decision.
For current hardware, use the Google Store phone catalog rather than assuming a historical promotion still applies. Readers interested specifically in on-wrist Gemini can review Pixel Watch and Wear OS pages, then verify compatibility for the exact model, region, language, and phone pairing.
