Google is notifying Google AI Plus subscribers that they will no longer be able to select Gemini Pro models in the Gemini app or Google Search’s AI Mode from November 13, 2026. Plus members will retain access to the Flash and Flash Lite models. To keep selecting Pro models, they will need Google AI Pro or a higher tier—listed in the United States at $19.99 per month, versus $4.99 per month for AI Plus.
What Google’s email changes
The change applies to model selection, not to the entire Gemini service. Beginning November 13, Google AI Plus subscribers will be restricted to Flash and Flash Lite in the Gemini app and in AI Mode in Google Search. Google AI Pro and higher tiers retain access to Pro models.

Google’s email says that an existing conversation created with a Pro model can continue only after the user switches that chat to another available model. The message does not indicate that Plus subscribers’ conversations will be deleted; it describes a model-access change that takes effect on the cutoff date.

Why the upgrade is described as “4x more”
Google’s current United States subscription page lists the plans at these monthly prices:

$19.99 is approximately four times $4.99, so a Plus subscriber upgrading solely to preserve Pro-model selection would face roughly a fourfold monthly list price. Taxes, introductory promotions, billing currency and local pricing can change the amount in a particular market.
The comparison is not a claim that every subscriber’s bill automatically increases. Staying on AI Plus remains possible; the trade-off is losing Pro-model selection after the cutoff.

What happens if you stay on AI Plus
- You can continue using Gemini with Google’s Flash and Flash Lite models.
- You cannot select Pro models in the Gemini app or AI Mode after November 13, 2026.
- Chats that used a Pro model must be switched to another model to continue.
- Your available usage is listed as 2x Google’s standard Free limits, subject to compute use and capacity.
Flash models may be sufficient for routine questions, summaries and many everyday tasks. The practical impact is greatest for people who deliberately choose Pro models for more demanding prompts, long documents or complex reasoning.
How Gemini limits now work
Google’s Help documentation describes Gemini limits as compute-based rather than as a simple fixed number of prompts. Consumption depends on factors including prompt complexity, the model and features used, and the length of the conversation.
- Limits refresh every five hours.
- An account can still encounter a weekly limit.
- Google lists AI Plus at 2x standard limits and AI Pro at 4x standard limits.
- Limits can change without notice when Google faces capacity constraints.
Google explained the broader policy shift in its May 19, 2026 I/O announcement: We’re moving from daily prompt limits to a ‘compute-used’ model.
When a user reaches a cap on a larger model, Google may move the account to a smaller model. The announcement also said AI Pro and Ultra subscribers can buy certain pay-as-you-go top-up credits for other Google AI products, with Gemini top-ups described at that time as forthcoming.

Context-window difference between Plus and Pro
Context capacity is another material distinction in Google’s Help documentation:

A larger context window allows a model to process more text, code or conversation history in one request. It does not guarantee a particular answer quality, speed or usage allowance; those remain affected by the model, features, compute consumption and current capacity.
What Google AI Pro adds beyond model selection
Google’s plan table lists additional Google services and storage with AI Pro. The exact bundle and availability vary by country and can change, so the $19.99 decision should not be based on Gemini model access alone. Check the plan details shown for your billing region before subscribing.

For users who mainly need everyday assistance
Remaining on AI Plus avoids the fourfold list-price jump and preserves Flash access. It is the lower-cost choice when Flash handles your normal workloads and Pro selection is occasional rather than essential.
For users who depend on Pro models
AI Pro is the relevant upgrade tier if selecting Pro models in Gemini or AI Mode is a requirement after November 13. Its listed usage multiplier and context window are also higher, although real availability depends on compute limits and Google’s capacity.

What to do before November 13
- Open the Google account that receives the notification and confirm whether it is subscribed to AI Plus.
- Review recent Gemini conversations and note which ones depend on a Pro model.
- Export or copy important prompts and outputs if you need an independent record; the email describes a model switch, not chat deletion, but preserving critical work avoids an unpleasant surprise.
- Try the Flash model on representative tasks and compare the results with your current Pro workflow.
- If Pro selection is indispensable, check the Google AI Pro price and included services for your country before the cutoff.
