Short answer: Google’s 2026 When to Buy Guide points to different sale windows by product. Buy fragrance in the first two weeks after Black Friday, target handbags in mid-December, shop travel accessories around Black Friday, wait for late-December clearance on large suitcases if price matters most, and watch electronic toys in the final weeks of December. These are historical patterns from U.S. merchants—not guarantees—so weigh the likely discount against inventory, shipping deadlines and the item’s recent price history.
Google’s holiday timing recommendations
Google says its new guide combines Google Search activity with discount data to identify when holiday deals have historically peaked. The analysis reflects U.S. merchant behavior and prior-year patterns; prices, stock and promotions can change from one holiday season to the next.

| Product | Most useful buying window | What the timing means | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fragrance | First two weeks after Black Friday | Discounts generally do not deepen as Christmas approaches, while the number of deals falls sharply. | Waiting can reduce both savings opportunities and scent or gift-set selection. |
| Handbags | Mid-December | Balances a strong discount with more reasonable availability than the end of the month. | Late December may be cheaper, but remaining styles and colors are fewer. |
| Travel accessories and packing cubes | Around Black Friday | Google identifies this period as the strongest deal window for these smaller travel items. | Buying later may mean paying more without gaining a meaningful selection advantage. |
| Large suitcases | Late December | Clearance promotions can produce the lowest prices after the main gift-buying rush. | Popular sizes, colors and models may already be gone. |
| Electronic toys | Final weeks of December | The deepest markdowns may appear close to the holiday’s end. | Late orders face shipping cutoffs; in-store purchasing may be necessary. |
How to decide whether to buy now or wait
A calendar date alone cannot tell you whether a particular listing is a bargain. Use four checks before delaying a purchase.
1. Compare the expected discount with the cost of losing selection
For fragrance, the guide favors buying soon after Black Friday because later deal volume falls. For handbags and suitcases, waiting can lower the ticket price but narrows the remaining range of styles, colors and sizes. Decide which matters more: the absolute lowest price or getting the exact item you want.

2. Protect the delivery date
A late December price cut is useful only if the item arrives in time. Check the product page’s delivery estimate, the seller’s holiday cutoff and whether the listing is fulfilled from a nearby store. For electronic toys, a store purchase can remove parcel-delivery risk when online shipping windows have closed.
3. Check the item’s recent price history in Google Shopping
For U.S. shoppers, Google Shopping price insights can label a price as low, typical or high, show recent changes and identify a 30-day low. The “typical” assessment uses seller information gathered across the web. Google explicitly says this feature does not forecast how the price will move in the future, so treat it as context rather than a promise of an upcoming drop.

4. Verify the live listing before paying
Promotions can exclude a color, size, fragrance concentration or bundle even when the headline product appears discounted. Confirm the exact model, seller, return policy, delivery date and final price at checkout. A coupon or temporary promotion may also expire before you return to the page.

Why the guide matters this season
Google’s broader shopping data illustrates the scale and uncertainty of holiday demand. In a 2024 Google/Ipsos study, 45% of Americans said they had started holiday shopping, but most had completed only about one-third of their purchases. Google Shopping’s product database contained more than 45 billion listings in 2024, making it possible to compare many sellers but also easy to encounter rapidly changing offers. In another Google/Ipsos survey, 84% of respondents said supporting local or small businesses was important.

- Wild and free, Tease is a delicious floral fragrance for those who embrace life and crave every experience it has to offer.
- Authentic and true, Bare is created with a proprietary blend of musk's that mixes with your body chemistry to reveal your signature.
- Glamorous and luxe, Very Sexy is a deep, woody slow-burn that lingers. The fragrance is bold from the start, with juicy clementine and tart wild blackberry wrapped in the sultry warmth of creamy woods and soft vanilla orchid.
Those figures do not change the recommended windows, but they explain why a single “best day” is unrealistic. Millions of shoppers, a huge number of listings and different seller policies create uneven pricing. A local shop may offer availability or service that an online clearance listing cannot, while a marketplace listing may change price several times in a day.
A practical holiday buying plan
- Set your deadline first. Write down the date the gift must be in hand. If it is close, favor available inventory over a speculative late discount.
- Choose your priority. Mark each purchase as price-first, selection-first or delivery-first.
- Use the category window. Shop travel accessories near Black Friday; schedule fragrance in the first two post–Black Friday weeks; target handbags in mid-December; reserve large-suitcase searches for late-December clearance when you can accept limited choice; monitor electronic toys late in December only if shipping or store pickup is secure.
- Record a reference price. Note the current price, seller and exact variant so a later discount can be judged against the same item.
- Recheck the live offer. Look at Google’s price-insights label, delivery promise, stock status and return terms immediately before purchase.
What Google’s guide cannot tell you
- It does not guarantee that a particular retailer or product will be discounted on the suggested date.
- It is based on historical U.S. merchant data, so shoppers in other countries may see different calendars, taxes, inventory and shipping rules.
- It cannot predict future price movement; Google’s typical-price label describes recent market information rather than a forecast.
- Clearance prices can be lower because only unpopular sizes, colors or older models remain.
The safest interpretation is a timing advantage, not a buying command. Match the guide’s seasonal pattern to the item’s current price, the stock you need and the date you must receive it.
