Google Wallet is becoming more useful for families, but it has not become a universal shared wallet. In supported countries, parents can set up supervised Wallet accounts for children through Family Link, while eligible tickets, boarding passes, gift cards and loyalty cards can be shared by link. Payment cards, IDs, transit credentials and other restricted items do not become freely available to every member of a family group.
The children’s feature was announced on March 19, 2025. Google’s June 4, 2026 Wallet announcement focused on payments, identity, authentication and age verification—not a new all-purpose family-wallet library.
What “family sharing” means in Google Wallet
Two separate features are often described as family sharing:
Supervised Wallet for children
In supported countries, a parent can allow a supervised child account to use Google Wallet for tap-to-pay and certain passes. Family Link supplies parental consent, payment-card controls and transaction oversight. Google announced this capability on March 19, 2025, and its current family-support documentation remains available at Google Families Help.

Sharing individual passes
For an eligible pass, Wallet can generate a link that another person uses to add a copy to their own Wallet. This is useful for a spouse’s boarding pass or a child’s event ticket, but it is not a shared family account and it does not create a shared payment-card library.
Google’s Wallet help page says the issuer decides whether sharing is available. A visible Share button is the practical test.
How to share a ticket, boarding pass or card
- Open the Google Wallet app.
- Select the ticket, pass or card.
- Look for Share above the pass.
- Tap Share, then Share now.
- Choose a messaging or communication app and send the generated link.
- The recipient opens the link and follows the prompts to add the item to their own Google Wallet.
The recipient may receive a usable copy, but do not assume that this changes the reservation name, transfers ownership or authorizes a second person to enter. Personalized, single-use and dynamically refreshed tickets remain subject to the issuer’s rules.
The link cannot be recalled
Google says a shared link cannot be unsent, and the recipient can forward it. Treat the URL like the ticket itself: send it privately, do not post it publicly, and contact the issuer if it went to the wrong person. Deleting the pass from your own Wallet does not necessarily invalidate another person’s copy.

What children can use in supervised Wallet accounts
Availability depends on the child’s country, account, device, Google Wallet support and the issuer. Google currently lists these categories as supported for children:
| Pass type | Child-account status |
|---|---|
| Loyalty cards | Supported where the account and issuer are eligible |
| Gift cards | Supported where the account and issuer are eligible |
| Boarding passes | Supported where the account and issuer are eligible |
| Event tickets | Supported where the account and issuer are eligible |
| Local transit cards | Currently unsupported for a child’s Wallet |
| Digital car keys | Currently unsupported |
| Hotel keys | Currently unsupported |
| Student IDs | Currently unsupported |
| Driver’s licenses and ID passes | Currently unsupported |
| Insurance and vaccine cards | Currently unsupported |
These categories and limitations are listed in Google’s family-support documentation; they are not a promise that every issuer or country supports every item.
What parents can and cannot control
| Parents can | Parents cannot |
|---|---|
| Approve and manage payment cards for the supervised account | Individually delete each pass from the child’s Wallet |
| Review recent tap-to-pay transactions | See the child’s complete pass collection in Family Link |
| Receive email notifications for supported payment transactions | Receive alerts whenever a child adds or uses an ordinary pass |
| Remove payment cards | Override an issuer’s sharing, identity or transfer rules |
| Block the child’s access to Wallet passes | Guarantee that a copied ticket is a valid ownership transfer |
Family Link is therefore a payment-supervision tool with broad pass blocking, not a dashboard for inspecting and editing every item in a child’s Wallet. Full transaction details may also require the card issuer’s app.
Are payment cards shareable with relatives?
No—not through Wallet’s ordinary pass-sharing link. The Share control applies only where Google and the issuer make a pass shareable. A debit or credit card should not be copied to a relative by sending a Wallet URL.

For a supervised child, a payment card is added with parental consent and managed through the child-account and Family Link system. That is different from sending a pass link to an adult family member. Google’s documentation for children’s Wallet controls and pass sharing describes these as separate mechanisms.
Sharing, transferring and duplicating are different
- Sharing gives another user a route to add an eligible pass.
- Transferring changes who holds or controls a ticket, when the issuer supports that process.
- Duplicating puts the same credential on multiple phones; that may not be valid for a one-entry ticket.
- Forwarding lets a recipient send the shared link onward.
If you need to change the ticket holder, use the issuer’s transfer process or contact the issuer. Google specifically directs users with transfer questions to the issuer’s rules at Wallet Help.
Before setting up a family Wallet arrangement
- Confirm that the parent and child accounts are in the intended Google family group and that Family Link supervision is active.
- Check that the child’s country and account type support the feature; Google initially identified the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Spain and Poland, but availability can vary.
- Use a compatible Android device with current Google Wallet and Google Play components.
- Verify that the issuing bank supports the payment card.
- Verify that the ticket, gift card or loyalty program supports Google Wallet and, if needed, sharing.
- Check the child’s age and other Google account and payment eligibility requirements.
Why sharing may fail—and what to do
There is no Share button
The issuer may have disabled sharing, or the item may be a payment card, ID, transit credential, hotel key or another restricted type. Check the issuer’s app or website for its own transfer control. Do not substitute a screenshot unless the venue explicitly accepts one.
The recipient cannot add the pass
Have the recipient open the link on their phone, install or update Google Wallet, and sign in to the intended Google account. Region restrictions, an invalid link, an issuer lock to the original purchaser or an unavailable Wallet app can all prevent adding it. If those checks fail, contact the issuer.

A parent cannot see a child’s pass
This is expected under Google’s current documentation. Family Link can block Wallet passes broadly, but it does not expose the child’s full pass collection or provide individual deletion controls.
No parent notification arrived
Transaction emails apply to supported child payment activity. Google does not notify parents whenever a child adds or uses an ordinary pass.
The same ticket appears on two phones
Wallet storage is not proof that two people may enter. Named-ticket rules, dynamic barcodes, one-entry restrictions and venue scanning policies are controlled by the event or issuer.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. When the issuer’s app is the better option
Use the airline, event or transit provider’s own app when a ticket is personalized, changes dynamically, requires identity verification or supports formal transfer. For airlines, each traveler may need to check in separately or have the name changed through the airline’s process. A Wallet copy is convenient, but it does not replace those official procedures.

- TEST THE CARD: Test the card is working at your local supermarket. At the self-service checkout machines, combine the card and a contactless card on the payment reader. Payment with the contactless card will be blocked and an error message should occur on the reader.
A screenshot is a last resort: animated or refreshing barcodes, security checks and app-only passes can make screenshots unusable.
The practical verdict
Google Wallet now handles several family situations well: a parent can supervise a child’s payment access, and eligible tickets, boarding passes, gift cards and loyalty cards can be placed on another person’s phone. The limits are just as important: sharing is issuer-controlled, links cannot be revoked and forwarded, parents cannot manage every child pass individually, and payment cards are not ordinary shareable passes.
For a family ticket, use Wallet’s native Share flow when it appears. For ownership changes, restricted credentials or anything security-sensitive, use the issuer’s official transfer or account process.
