If a website shortcut now shows the Microsoft Edge logo, that change alone does not mean Chrome or Google was removed. Windows shortcuts can display the icon associated with the browser linked to them. Why a Google website shortcut may show the Edge logo
The logo is a clue about the shortcut’s browser association, not proof of which search engine or account you use. In a Microsoft Q&A discussion, a volunteer moderator said that internet shortcuts may show the Edge icon when Edge is the default browser. That is community-support guidance, not a formal specification covering every shortcut type or Windows setup.

- Double-click the affected website shortcut and note which browser opens it.
- If Edge opens, check Windows’ default-browser setting using the path for your version below.
- If the shortcut opens in the browser you want but only the icon looks wrong, you can create a new website shortcut from Chrome. Google’s instructions do not guarantee that this will restore a particular favicon on every Windows setup.

Open Start > Settings > Apps > Default apps, then choose your preferred browser under Web browser.
Windows settings can vary by version. Changing the default browser may affect which browser opens web links, but it may not change every shortcut’s appearance.

Create a website shortcut from Chrome
- Open the website in Chrome.
- Select More > Cast, save and share > Create shortcut.
- Name the shortcut if you want, then select Create.
This creates a shortcut through Chrome’s documented workflow. If its icon still appears unexpected, or it opens in the wrong browser, the exact next step depends on your Windows version and the type of shortcut involved.

What to check if the problem remains
- Confirm whether the issue is only the icon or also the browser that opens.
- Note whether you are using Windows 10 or Windows 11.
