For Bing search performance and indexing, use Bing Webmaster Tools alongside Google Search Console (GSC). For Google data analysis, spreadsheets, site audits, backlink checks, or competitor research, choose a tool that adds that capability—but do not treat it as a replacement source for Google’s first-party Search Console data.
What Google Search Console monitors—and what an alternative can mean
Google Search Console is Google’s free service for understanding a site’s presence in Google Search. It provides search traffic and query information, indexing and issue details, re-indexing requests, alerts, and links to the site. Its reports concern Google’s search ecosystem; another product does not become a substitute for those reports simply because it is marketed as an SEO platform. Google’s Search Console help page describes the service and its purpose.

“Alternative” can refer to several different jobs: monitoring a different search engine, analyzing GSC data in a more flexible format, checking a verified site for technical or backlink issues, or researching competitors. Identify the job first, then decide whether you need a replacement for a particular monitoring task or a companion to GSC.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsBing Webmaster Tools: the direct alternative for Bing
Bing Webmaster Tools is the closest counterpart when the goal is to monitor a site in another search engine. Microsoft describes performance reports, filters, crawl and index information, URL inspection, sitemap reporting, SEO reports, and IndexNow. Its data concerns Bing, while GSC concerns Google; neither gives you the other engine’s first-party view. See Microsoft’s comparison of Bing Webmaster Tools and Google Search Console.
That makes Bing Webmaster Tools a companion for broader search monitoring rather than a total replacement for GSC. Microsoft Principal Product Manager Fabrice Canel wrote that “both Bing Webmaster Tools and Google Search Console bring a lot to the table,” and described combining them to gain a broader view of URL performance. That is a Microsoft product manager’s perspective, but the practical distinction is clear: use each service for its own search engine.
Tools that extend GSC or add other SEO analysis
Several tools commonly grouped under “Google Search Console alternatives” do not supply a new first-party Google search data source. They add analysis around GSC data or cover separate SEO tasks. A commercial alternatives guide from SEOTesting identifies Search Analytics for Sheets, Ahrefs Webmaster Tools, Semrush, and Similarweb among these broader options; product features, limits, and prices can change, so check the vendor’s current terms before choosing.
Search Analytics for Sheets: spreadsheet analysis of Google data
Search Analytics for Sheets is a fit when you want to work with Google search data in a spreadsheet. Think of it as a way to extend or analyze GSC data, not as an independent source of Google search performance. Check the current add-on limits and pricing before relying on it for a recurring report.
Ahrefs Webmaster Tools: audits and backlinks for a verified site
Ahrefs Webmaster Tools is relevant when you want technical audits or backlink information for a site you have verified. That is complementary to GSC’s Google search monitoring. Do not confuse verified-site analysis with competitor research, which is a different task and may have different product access or plan requirements.
Semrush and Similarweb: broader research
Broader SEO suites such as Semrush, and research tools such as Similarweb, may be useful when your work includes competitor or market analysis beyond your own site’s search performance. They are not interchangeable with Google’s Search Console reports. Decide whether competitor visibility or wider research is worth the added tool and cost before subscribing; current pricing and features should be confirmed directly with each vendor.
Choose by the job you need done
| Need | Best-fit option | What its data represents |
|---|---|---|
| Search performance and indexing in Google | Google Search Console | Google’s first-party view of your site in Google Search. |
| Search performance and indexing in Bing | Bing Webmaster Tools | Bing-specific performance and webmaster information; use alongside GSC for both engines. |
| Flexible spreadsheet reporting on Google search data | Search Analytics for Sheets | An extension for working with GSC data, not another Google data source. |
| Audits and backlink information for a verified site | Ahrefs Webmaster Tools | Additional site and link analysis; distinguish this from competitor research. |
| Broader competitor or SEO research | Semrush or Similarweb | Broader research beyond GSC’s first-party reporting; verify current functions and plan access. |
Use these distinctions as a buying and setup checklist:
- Data coverage: Does the tool report for Google, Bing, or a different kind of dataset?
- Monitoring task: Do you need search performance, indexing, technical audits, backlinks, or competitor intelligence?
- Reporting needs: Would spreadsheet extraction and analysis solve the problem without replacing GSC?
- Competitor visibility: Are you analyzing your own verified site, or trying to understand other sites?
- Cost: Is the extra function worth a separate product or paid plan? Confirm current pricing and limits with the provider.
Should you replace Google Search Console?
For monitoring a site’s presence in Google Search, keep GSC as the first-party source. Add Bing Webmaster Tools if you also need Bing’s view, a spreadsheet add-on if you need more flexible reporting, or an SEO platform if audits, backlinks, or competitor research are part of the job. Choose a tool based on the gap it fills, not on the assumption that every product called an alternative replaces the same data.
