Tom’s Guide reports that AI Plus now retains access to Gemini’s Flash and Flash-Lite variants, while users who want the previous Pro-level access must move to the $19.99-per-month Google AI Pro plan. Google’s public help pages document current plan features and limits but do not include a dedicated announcement confirming this specific removal.
What changed for Google AI Plus subscribers
The reported change affects the model tier that originally made AI Plus attractive to people who wanted more than Google’s standard Gemini access. According to Tom’s Guide, Google AI Plus no longer includes Gemini Pro models beginning October 9, 2026. Subscribers continue to receive Flash and Flash-Lite access, but Pro is reportedly reserved for Google AI Pro and higher tiers.

The same report says free Gemini users lose access to Gemini 3.6 Flash and Gemini 3.1 Pro. When a conversation reaches an account’s allowance, Google says Gemini may continue it with Flash-Lite instead. The exact model availability can therefore depend on both the subscription and the limit reached.

- Attention-grabbing design meets the latest evolution of the Google Pixel Camera on the new Google Pixel 11 Pro XL; Gemini Intelligence helps manage details so you can live in the moment[1]; and the phone is available in two sizes
- Unlocked Android phone gives you the flexibility to change carriers and choose your own data plan: Works with Google Fi, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and other major carriers[2]
- Stay informed without looking at your screen: When your phone is face down, Pixel HiLight gently alerts you with subtle glowing lights when your favorite contacts are calling or you’re talking with Gemini; exclusive to Google Pixel 11 Pro phones
- Magic Capture catches the moment as you live it: With just one tap, Pixel 11 Pro captures video and photos, and automatically edits, crops, and unblurs a curated collection, ready to share – and you get the memory of how it felt to be in the moment
- Two new cameras for more brilliant photos: A larger telephoto sensor captures 30% more light for clear, beautiful photos and videos, even in the dark[3]; Pixel’s longest zoom ever helps you capture details from impressive distances[4]
Why the removal matters
AI Plus launched as a lower-cost way to obtain several premium Google AI capabilities, including Gemini 3 Pro. Removing Pro-model access changes the plan’s main appeal: it becomes primarily a Flash-focused subscription bundled with Google services, rather than an inexpensive entry point to Google’s highest-capability everyday model.
Users who rely on long prompts, complex reasoning or the larger context available on higher tiers may notice the difference immediately. Google’s comparison table lists a 128K-token context window for AI Plus, compared with 1 million tokens for AI Pro and Ultra. A larger context window allows a model to keep more of a document, codebase or conversation available at once, although it does not guarantee better answers for every task.
What Google AI Plus originally included
Google’s January 27, 2026 launch announcement described AI Plus as a package built around Gemini 3 Pro and Nano Banana Pro in the Gemini app. It also included AI filmmaking tools in Flow, research and writing assistance in NotebookLM, 200GB of storage and sharing with up to five family members.

The announced US launch price was $7.99 per month, with a limited-time 50% discount for new subscribers. Google says pricing and availability vary by country, so the US launch price should not be treated as a worldwide rate or a permanent promotional offer.
What Google currently lists for AI Plus
Included Google services
Google’s current AI Plus help page lists access to the Gemini app, Gemini in Gmail, Google Colab, Google Flow, Google Flow Music, Google Photos generative-AI features and Gemini Notebook. These ecosystem benefits remain important even if Pro-model access has been removed.
Storage
The current help page lists either 400GB or 2TB of storage, depending on the specific AI Plus plan. That is different from the 200GB storage figure in the January launch announcement, which described the original US offering. Plan names, storage allocations and availability can change by market and over time.
Rank #3
- Google Pixel 10 Pro is the ultimate Pixel experience, featuring advanced AI with Gemini, unbelievable camera quality, impeccable design in two sizes, and the next-gen Google Tensor G5 chip[1]

- Get a head start on syncing your data before it even arrives: After you purchase your new Pixel, look for an email that explains how to transfer your photos, videos, passwords, and more in just a few quick steps[11]
- Pixel’s pro camera system makes everything look amazing, even in low light; capture more of the scene with advanced Google AI models, and bring out incredible details with 100x Pro Res Zoom, stunning 50 MP images, and super steady videos in 8K[10]
- Pixel 10 Pro is built with durable aluminum and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 for scratch and drop resistance; the 6.3-inch Super Actua display with 3,300-nit peak brightness is easy on the eyes, even in direct sunlight[3,13,18]
Flow Music credits
AI Plus members receive 3,000 Google Flow Music credits each month, described by Google as approximately 600 songs. The Flow Music Starter plan also lists eight concurrent generations and commercial-use rights. The number of songs is an approximation, not a guaranteed fixed output, because credit consumption can vary by generation.
Google Colab
AI Plus includes 50 compute credits, or CCUs, for Google Colab. Google identifies this access as web-only and notes age restrictions and restrictions for family managers. Those requirements may prevent every family member on a shared plan from using the benefit in the same way.
Google AI plan comparison after the reported change
| Plan | Reported model access | Usage allowance | Context window | Price or status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free Gemini | Tom’s Guide reports loss of Gemini 3.6 Flash and Gemini 3.1 Pro access; fallback behavior beyond limits is not stated for every feature | Standard baseline | Not stated in the cited comparison | Free |
| Google AI Plus | Flash and Flash-Lite retained; Pro access reportedly removed | Twice the standard limit | 128K tokens | US launch price: $7.99 monthly; current pricing varies by country |
| Google AI Pro | The reported upgrade for users seeking the prior Pro-level access | Four times the standard limit | 1 million tokens | $19.99 per month in the report’s US pricing |
| Google AI Ultra | Specific model entitlements are not stated here | Five or 20 times the AI Pro limit, depending on the subscription | 1 million tokens | Price not stated |
The relative limits in Google’s table describe capacity, not a fixed number of identical prompts. A short question can use much less capacity than a long document analysis, image task or multi-step generation.
How Gemini usage limits now work
Google says it is replacing daily prompt limits with a “compute-used” model. In Google’s words, “We’re moving from daily prompt limits to a ‘compute-used’ model.” The system considers the complexity of a prompt, the features used and the length of the chat.
Limits refresh every five hours and continue until an additional weekly limit is reached. Google also warns that limits may change without notice. When an account reaches a limit, Gemini can continue the conversation with Flash-Lite, which may provide continuity but is a lower-capability option than the model originally selected.
Who should consider Google AI Pro
- Choose Pro if you need Pro-model access. The reported change makes AI Pro the paid upgrade for users who want the previous level of model availability.
- Choose Pro for very large inputs. Its listed 1 million-token context window is substantially larger than AI Plus’s 128K window.
- Choose Pro for higher usage headroom. Google lists four times the standard limit for Pro, compared with twice the standard limit for Plus, although actual consumption depends on the work performed.
- Stay on Plus if the ecosystem matters more than the model tier. Flow, Flow Music, Notebook-related tools, Gmail integration, Photos features, Colab credits and included storage can still justify the lower-priced plan for lighter Gemini use.
The reported US price for AI Pro is $19.99 per month. Google states that prices and availability vary by country, so check the subscription page shown for your account before changing plans.

What remains uncertain
The central question is not whether Google AI Plus still has useful benefits; Google’s current help page lists many. The uncertainty is whether the Pro-model removal is a permanent, worldwide policy and exactly which model labels each account sees. The independent report supplies the October 9 date and the practical upgrade path, while Google’s currently documented benefits and limits do not contain a specific confirmation of the change.
For now, the safest interpretation is that AI Plus has become a lower-cost Flash-oriented plan with broad Google-service benefits, while AI Pro is the tier to consider when Pro models, larger context and higher usage limits are essential.
