The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra has the more camera-heavy spec sheet, with a 200 MP wide sensor, a 50 MP ultra-wide and a 10 MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom, plus a 5,000 mAh battery and 45 W wired charging. The Pixel 11 Pro Fold is the Google option, built around the Tensor G6 chip, 16 GB of RAM, a 48 MP main camera, telephoto zoom of up to 30x Super Zoom, and Google’s foldable software features. Choose by what you will actually do with the phone, then confirm battery, camera and durability with independent tests before you pay.
Where both phones stand
Both are current book-style foldables with an 8-inch inner display and a 6.5-inch outer display, according to their manufacturers. Google says the Pixel 11 Pro Fold could be pre-ordered before its August 20 shelf date, so it is a 2026 release rather than a rumoured model. Google’s Pixel 11 Pro Fold announcement sets out that timing.

Samsung launched the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra on August 7 through carriers, retailers, Samsung.com and Samsung Experience Stores in 106 markets. Samsung’s launch notice gives that rollout. Cameras: more modules or a different approach
Samsung’s published rear array has more modules and a higher-resolution wide sensor. Its 10 MP telephoto is rated at 3x optical zoom, and that is the number to weigh if you mostly shoot portraits or distant subjects. Google’s headline figure is the telephoto reach, up to 30x Super Zoom. That is a digital-assisted zoom range, not an optical one, so it describes what the phone can reach rather than how sharp a distant shot will be.
Neither spec sheet proves which camera takes better photographs. Sensor size, processing, low-light performance and zoom quality at each focal length all require side-by-side shots taken under the same conditions. Until you see those, the camera comparison is a set of different design choices rather than a ranking.

Battery, charging and real-world endurance
Samsung gives a battery capacity of 5,000 mAh, while Google gives a duration claim of over 24 hours. These are not the same kind of evidence. Capacity tells you how much energy the battery holds; a duration claim depends on the test workload, screen settings and network conditions behind it, and Google’s announcement does not list those conditions in the cited material.
The charging figures are easier to compare. Samsung’s 45 W wired rating is higher than Google’s 30 W, and Google’s about-50%-in-30-minutes figure is its own measurement. Fast charging matters most if you regularly top up mid-day, while overnight charging makes it less important.
Durability and folding screens
Both manufacturers describe their screens and hinges as more robust, but the claims rest on different bases. Google claims IP68 dust and water protection and says the Pixel is three times more durable than last year’s device, which it attributes to its gearless hinge and display construction. Samsung describes its Flex Titanium display structure as supporting the display and reducing crease visibility, and its cited material does not list an ingress-protection rating for the Galaxy.

No independent head-to-head durability results were established in the sources reviewed for this comparison. Treat the IP68 rating as a dust and water claim, not a guarantee against damage from drops, pressure or repeated folding. If durability is a deciding factor, look for long-term hinge and crease testing from reviewers who have used the phones over months, and read the warranty terms that apply in your country.

Software, multitasking and ecosystem
Google emphasises split screen, drag and drop, app bubbles and Gemini features, along with sign-to-text for ASL. Samsung emphasises an 8-inch workspace for multitasking and Galaxy AI features such as Now Nudge and content summarization. Both lists are manufacturer feature descriptions, so they tell you what is available rather than how easy each system is to use.
The better test is your own workflow. If your phone, laptop and accounts already run on Google services, the Pixel’s software integration is the more natural fit. If you use Samsung’s ecosystem or rely on its multitasking layout, the Galaxy’s workspace may suit you better.

Size, weight and price
Samsung publishes 215 g and 4.1 mm unfolded thickness for the Galaxy, which gives a clear baseline. Google’s Pixel material describes the phone as almost 10% lighter and about 1 mm thinner than the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, but it does not give an absolute weight or thickness in the cited announcement. Compare the two only on official figures that use the same measurement basis.
No current local price comparison was established for this article. Price depends on country, carrier contract, storage size and trade-in value, so the numbers you see on the day you buy matter more than any launch price.
Which should you buy?
Choose the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra if camera range matters most
Samsung’s rear array offers a 200 MP wide sensor, a 50 MP ultra-wide and a 10 MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom. If you want more lenses and a higher-resolution main sensor, its published specification is the more complete one. Check sample photos before deciding that it produces better images.

Choose the Pixel 11 Pro Fold if Google’s software and telephoto reach matter most
The Pixel offers Google’s foldable software features, Tensor G6 and the telephoto reach of up to 30x Super Zoom. It is the better fit if you already use Google services and value its AI-driven photo features. Confirm the telephoto quality in real shots at the zoom levels you actually use.
Choose by battery only after matched testing
If battery life decides it for you, do not rely on capacity or on Google’s over-24-hours claim alone. Look for reviews that run the same screen-on workload on both phones, and compare results from the same test setup and date.
Checks before you buy
- Confirm the model and region. Samsung’s launch covers 106 markets, while Google’s pricing and availability depend on where you live.
- Compare the same storage size and carrier configuration on both sides, and convert prices to one currency with the same tax and contract terms.
- Check trade-in offers. Samsung Australia’s buying guide lists trade-in and buying options for that market; confirm the eligible models and device condition before you rely on any credit.
- Check protection options. Samsung Australia lists Samsung Care+ for cracked screens and water damage in that market; whether a similar plan exists in your country needs checking locally.
- Buy a model-specific case if you want hinge protection. Google identifies a Pixel 11 Pro Fold case with an integrated hinge cover, and you should confirm the case fits your exact model before ordering.
- Read independent battery, camera and durability tests published after both phones were on sale before making a final decision.
The right foldable depends on your priorities. If you want the most camera hardware on paper, the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra has the more detailed rear array. If you want Google’s software and zoom reach, the Pixel 11 Pro Fold is the better choice. Verify battery life, camera results and durability with independent tests, and confirm the local price, before you buy.
