Both phones appear to meet Pokémon GO’s published Android hardware baseline, but Niantic does not specifically certify either model—and its requirements are not a guarantee that every qualifying phone will work. For this comparison, “Samsung Galaxy Z Fold” means the current Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, not the separate Z Fold8 or older generations. The available specifications do not show which phone plays Pokémon GO more smoothly, runs cooler, or lasts longer on a charge.
Will Pokémon GO work on either foldable?
Niantic’s Supported Devices page lists Android 9 or later, at least 2 GB of RAM, GPS and Location Services, and a strong internet connection. Its preferred screen resolution is 720 × 1280. It also says rooted devices are unsupported and notes that older or lower-end phones may not fully render the map horizon.

Google lists the Pixel 11 Pro Fold as a 2026 phone with Tensor G6, while Samsung lists Android 17 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform for Galaxy for the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra. These manufacturer specifications put both devices well above Niantic’s stated Android-version baseline. That is an inference from general requirements and product specifications—not model-specific confirmation from Niantic.

What the displays and hardware establish
Both phones have a 6.5-inch cover display, but their dimensions differ. The Pixel’s is a 19.5:9 OLED at 1080 × 2342, with a refresh rate up to 120 Hz. Samsung lists the Z Fold8 Ultra cover display as FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X at 1080 × 2520, with an adaptive 1–120 Hz refresh rate. The larger screen on either phone is available by unfolding it; Samsung specifies an 8.0-inch inner display at 2504 × 2256, while Google’s hardware specifications list details for the Pixel’s internal display.
These figures describe the panels, not Pokémon GO’s layout or ease of play on them. The sources do not establish whether the game behaves better on a cover screen or unfolded, or whether one device’s chip delivers higher frame rates, less heat, or lower battery drain during play.

Which foldable is better for Pokémon GO?
The published evidence does not support a gameplay-performance winner. Chip names and display specifications are not substitutes for a direct comparison of Pokémon GO responsiveness, sustained performance, temperature, and battery use. No comparable test on these exact models is established here.

Optional Pokémon GO Plus accessory
Pokémon GO Plus is an optional accessory, not a phone-performance upgrade. Pokémon Support says Pokémon GO must still be installed on the smartphone, and one Plus can connect to one smartphone at a time. Its FAQ also says it uses a replaceable CR2032 coin battery, is not rechargeable, and is not water- or damage-resistant. The same FAQ lists Android 6 or later for its accessory play requirements and recommends at least 2 GB of RAM; for the game’s general current requirements, Niantic’s Android 9-or-later guidance is the relevant reference.
For an actual head-to-head decision, compare the regional phones under the same Pokémon GO version, route, brightness, network conditions, duration, and screen configuration. Record responsiveness, heat, and battery change; without that kind of model-specific test, a claim that one is better for gameplay would be speculation.
