The Pixel 10a is the more affordable conventional phone; the Galaxy Z Fold8 costs much more but opens into a larger 7.6-inch display. In the US, Samsung lists the Fold8 from $1,899.99, while an October 2, 2026 report puts the Pixel 10a at $599 for 128GB and $699 for 256GB. On those reported base prices, the difference is $1,300.99. Google’s original February 2026 launch price was $499, making the gap from that dated price $1,400.99. How much more does the Galaxy Z Fold8 cost?
Using the October 2, 2026 report’s US Pixel prices, the Fold8’s listed $1,899.99 starting price is $1,300.99 above the Pixel 10a’s $599 128GB price and $1,200.99 above its $699 256GB price. The Fold8 starting price is associated with the 256GB version in Tom’s Guide’s report; its 512GB and 1TB configurations cost more, though the cited comparison does not provide those amounts.

The older launch-price comparison gives a different answer: Google announced the Pixel 10a at $499 in the US on February 18, 2026, which is $1,400.99 below Samsung’s listed Fold8 starting price. Google described it as bringing “core Pixel experiences into a sleek, durable design for just $499” in that launch announcement; that quote refers to the original launch price, not the later reported price.

Which screen and form factor suit you?
Choose the Pixel 10a for a standard phone
The Pixel 10a has one 6.3-inch display and a familiar slab design. It is the straightforward choice if you want a conventional smartphone rather than a device that unfolds into a larger workspace. Its 1080 × 2424 pOLED panel supports a 60–120Hz refresh rate.

Choose the Fold8 for a larger screen when open
The Fold8 pairs a 5.5-inch cover display with a 7.6-inch main display. That larger open screen is its defining advantage for people who want more room for media or multitasking; the trade-off is carrying a foldable device with a much higher starting price. Samsung lists its weight as 201g.

Performance, memory and storage
The Pixel 10a uses Google’s Tensor G4 and 8GB of RAM, with 128GB or 256GB storage options. The Fold8 uses Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy and comes with 12GB memory in its 256GB and 512GB configurations, or 16GB with 1TB storage. The cited specifications do not establish microSD expandability for either phone, so do not assume you can add storage with a card.

Battery and charging: what the figures do and do not show
Google lists a typical 5,100mAh battery for the Pixel 10a and says it can reach 50% charge in about 30 minutes when paired with a 45W USB-C PPS charger or higher. That charger is sold separately. Samsung lists a typical 4,800mAh battery for the Fold8 and claims up to 26 hours of video playback.
These manufacturer figures are not a controlled comparison: capacity, charging speed and video playback are different measures. They are not enough to conclude which phone lasts longer in everyday use.

Camera specifications are not a photo-quality verdict
Google lists a 48MP main camera and a 13MP ultrawide camera for the Pixel 10a. Samsung describes the Fold8’s rear cameras as 50MP wide and 50MP ultrawide. Megapixel counts alone do not show which phone produces better images, and the cited sources do not establish a controlled, head-to-head camera test.
Software support and durability
Google promises seven years of OS, security and Pixel Drops updates for the Pixel 10a and identifies it as IP68 rated. Samsung lists the Fold8 as IP48 rated and says it does not support S Pen or FlexMode. The cited product information does not establish a directly comparable Fold8 update-support duration, so the available figures cannot support a fair ranking of long-term software support.

How to decide between them
- Set a budget first: Compare current prices for the storage versions you would actually buy, not just the lowest listed starting prices.
- Decide how you use a screen: Pick the Pixel’s conventional 6.3-inch display if that format meets your needs; consider the Fold8 if the 7.6-inch open screen is worth its higher cost to you.
- Check storage needs: The Pixel tops out at 256GB in the cited specifications, while the Fold8 offers configurations up to 1TB.
- Match battery claims to your priorities: The Pixel’s stated fast-charging figure requires a compatible charger sold separately. Samsung’s video-playback number and Google’s battery-capacity figure are not directly comparable.
- Weigh support and protection carefully: Google states a seven-year update promise for the Pixel 10a. The cited Samsung listing gives an IP rating and feature limitations but no directly comparable support duration.
For a lower-cost standard phone, the Pixel 10a is the more direct fit. The Fold8 makes sense when its foldable screen is a priority and its substantially higher price fits your budget; neither is a universal winner.
