The Pixel 10a is a strong pick if you want a straightforward Android camera that reliably handles everyday photos, but its value depends on what it costs where you live. Its camera hardware is very close to the Pixel 9a’s, and it has no telephoto lens; in the U.S., October 2026 reporting put the 10a’s price well above its original launch price. Check the live price of both models before buying.
Pixel 10a camera review: what you get
Google’s Pixel 10a has two rear cameras: a 48MP wide camera and a 13MP ultrawide. The wide camera has optical and electronic image stabilization; the ultrawide offers a 120-degree field of view. Google lists Super Res Zoom up to 8x, but that is not optical zoom from a dedicated telephoto camera. The front camera is 13MP. Google’s specifications also list Night Sight, Macro Focus, Portrait Mode, Astrophotography, Long Exposure and Real Tone.

The Guardian calls the cameras excellent for point-and-shoot photography, and TechCrunch highlights Google’s camera tools, including Camera Coach and Auto Best Take. Those are reviewers’ assessments, not a controlled comparison across every budget phone. The practical appeal is that you can take ordinary photos without needing to manage many settings.

Where the camera is limited
There is no dedicated telephoto camera, so distant subjects are a weakness compared with phones that offer optical reach. Google’s 8x Super Res Zoom should not be treated as equivalent to optical zoom. Amateur Photographer also notes that manual and pro controls are limited. If you want to choose exposure settings yourself or regularly photograph faraway subjects, consider alternatives with a telephoto lens or more extensive manual controls.

How it compares with the Pixel 9a
The 10a is a modest generational update rather than a camera-system overhaul. The Guardian and TechCrunch report that it uses the same Tensor G4 processor as the 9a and closely related camera hardware; The Guardian says the front and rear cameras are the same. Google’s announced changes include a flat camera back, a brighter screen, faster charging and additional camera software features. TechCrunch says existing 9a owners have little reason to upgrade.
For a new buyer, the older model can be the better value if it is substantially cheaper and still available from a reputable seller. In its March 5, 2026 UK review, The Guardian listed the 10a at £499 and the 9a at £399, and judged the 9a the better buy at those prices. That is a dated UK comparison, not a current price quote for other markets.

Price and value: check your market before buying
Google announced a U.S. launch price of $499 on February 18, 2026, with availability beginning March 5. Android Central reported on October 2, 2026 that U.S. pricing had risen to $599 for 128GB and $699 for 256GB. Those are different points in time: the launch figure is historical, and the reported later prices should be checked against live Google Store and retailer listings. Android Central said Google had not explained the increase; no cause is established by the cited reporting.

Battery, display and support
Google specifies a 6.3-inch Actua display, IP68 dust and water protection, faster charging than the 9a and more than 30 hours of battery life under its stated conditions. IP68 is a design rating when the device leaves the factory; Google cautions that resistance can diminish with wear, repair, disassembly or damage, and that the phone is not drop-proof.
Battery life also varies by use. In The Guardian’s review scenario, the phone lasted about 52 hours per charge with seven hours of active screen use. That is one reviewer’s result under described conditions, not a promise of typical runtime. Google promises seven years of OS, security and Pixel Drops updates; that update commitment is separate from battery endurance and does not mean every feature is available in every country.

Who should buy the Pixel 10a?
- Consider it if you want a simple point-and-shoot camera, Google’s camera features, and a long update commitment—and its current local price makes sense.
- Compare it carefully with the Pixel 9a if you are choosing between the two. The 10a’s related camera hardware and shared processor make the price gap especially important.
- Look elsewhere if optical zoom, extensive manual controls or notably higher performance matter more than Google’s camera software experience.
- For Pixel 9a owners, the changes documented here are unlikely to justify an upgrade unless the newer design or specific 10a features are important to you.
