SBI Card advertises a ₹1,000 welcome gift and up to 18,000 Stars a year, but the available product details do not establish enough about earning rules or Star redemption value to calculate what those rewards are worth. Its strongest fit is someone who values the Google Pay connection and can use the eligible EMI feature; shoppers with concentrated Flipkart or Tata spending should compare the relevant SBI co-branded cards as well.
How Flex compares with the SBI alternatives
The right comparison is not simply the biggest advertised reward number. Check the fee you will actually pay, whether your regular spending qualifies, how rewards convert into usable value, and whether a platform-linked benefit is useful to you.

| Card or option | Fee and waiver | Advertised fit or benefit | What remains to check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Pay Flex SBI Card | ₹499 annual fee and ₹499 renewal fee; renewal fee waived after at least ₹1 lakh in preceding-year annual spends, according to SBI Card’s MITC accessed 4 October 2026. | SBI advertises a ₹1,000 welcome gift on Google Pay, up to 18,000 Stars in a year, and Pay in EMI for eligible cardholders. | Current qualifying spend, exclusions, Star earning caps and Star-to-value conversion are not established by the available product details. |
| SimplyCLICK SBI Card | ₹499 annual fee; SBI Card’s MITC lists the same ₹1 lakh preceding-year spend threshold for renewal-fee waiver. | A fee-level comparator, but no specific category earn rate is established here. | Check current product terms for eligible categories, earning rates, exclusions and redemption value. |
| SimplySAVE SBI Card | ₹499 annual fee; SBI Card’s MITC lists the same ₹1 lakh preceding-year spend threshold for renewal-fee waiver. | A fee-level comparator, but no specific category earn rate is established here. | Check current product terms for eligible categories, earning rates, exclusions and redemption value. |
| Flipkart SBI Card | Fee and waiver details: not stated in the cited SBI homepage material. | SBI advertises 5% cashback on Flipkart. | Confirm current eligibility, exclusions and any caps in the card’s terms; the headline rate is relevant only to qualifying purchases. |
| Tata Neu Infinity | Fee and waiver details: not stated in the cited SBI homepage material. | SBI advertises 5% NeuCoins on Tata Neu and partner Tata brands, plus 5% on selected Tata Neu app/site categories. | Confirm current eligible categories, conditions and caps; NeuCoins are tied to the Tata ecosystem. |
The alternatives are not direct equivalents: Flipkart and Tata Neu Infinity are most relevant when your eligible spend is concentrated in those ecosystems. For Flex, compare the advertised Stars only after confirming the complete current product terms; Stars should not be assumed to equal rupees or ordinary SBI Reward Points.

1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteWhat Flex costs—and when the annual fee can be waived
SBI Card’s MITC lists a ₹499 annual fee and a ₹499 renewal fee for Google Pay Flex SBI Card. The renewal fee is waived if annual spends in the preceding year reach ₹1 lakh. This is a renewal-fee waiver, not evidence that the initial annual fee is waived. The same MITC lists a ₹499 fee and ₹1 lakh preceding-year spend waiver for SimplyCLICK and SimplySAVE.
Whether the waiver makes Flex inexpensive depends on your normal card spending and how much of it qualifies under SBI’s terms. Do not plan around a threshold until you have checked which transactions count toward it.
How much are Flex Stars worth?
SBI Card’s homepage, accessed 4 October 2026, advertises a ₹1,000 welcome gift on Google Pay and up to 18,000 Stars in a year. SBI’s launch notice listing dated 29 July 2026 framed the offer as “Up to 8 Stars per ₹500” and a ₹499 annual fee. These are issuer claims; the maximum annual figure is not a guaranteed return on a particular spending pattern.
The available details do not establish Flex’s complete qualifying-spend rules, category exclusions, caps or Star redemption conversion rate. As a result, they are not enough to calculate a reliable rupee return or compare Flex’s rewards directly with cashback or NeuCoins. SBI’s general rewards FAQ and MITC describe rules for SBI reward programs, but do not establish that every such rule applies identically to Flex Stars.
- SBI’s general MITC says reward points usually expire after 24 months, with AURUM as an exception. Confirm whether and how this applies to Flex Stars in the current Flex terms.
- SBI’s reward FAQ says a ₹99 charge plus applicable tax can apply to certain redemption batches, including physical-product and statement-credit redemptions, subject to exceptions. Check whether the fee applies to your specific Flex redemption.
- Before valuing the advertised Star maximum, verify earning eligibility, redemption choices, conversion value, charges and expiry in the live product terms.
What Pay in EMI offers—and what it costs
Pay in EMI is available through Google Pay to eligible primary Google Pay Flex cardholders, for eligible retail transactions shown on the latest bill. It is not a general conversion option for every amount on a card account. SBI’s terms exclude cash transactions, existing EMIs, fees, interest and several other items.

SBI’s Pay in EMI terms, accessed 4 October 2026, set a minimum booking amount of ₹2,500. Listed tenures are 3, 6, 9, 12, 18, 24 and 36 months; a 36-month booking requires at least ₹30,000. Interest is charged. The terms state a promotional processing-fee waiver for eligible 24- and 36-month bookings requested from 11 September 2026. For other tenures, the processing fee is 1% of the booking amount or ₹2,000, whichever is lower. Check the rate, eligibility and offer displayed when booking; a processing-fee waiver does not mean the EMI is interest-free.
Using an SBI card through Google Pay
SBI says eligible users can register SBI cards in Google Pay for Android NFC tap-to-pay, Bharat QR scanning, or online and in-app payments. SBI’s page says availability is currently limited to some Google Pay users. This describes payment access; it does not establish that paying through Google Pay earns additional rewards.

Which SBI card should you consider?
Choose Flex for Google Pay-linked use, not an assumed Star return
Flex is worth comparing if you expect to use its Google Pay payment access or eligible Pay in EMI facility and are comfortable verifying the Star rules before assigning a value to the rewards. Include the ₹499 fee unless you can realistically meet the renewal-waiver threshold.
Compare Flipkart SBI Card for eligible Flipkart spending
SBI advertises 5% cashback on Flipkart for this card. That makes it a relevant candidate for eligible purchases in that ecosystem, but the headline rate alone does not establish the card’s full cost or return: check its current fees, qualifying transactions, caps and exclusions.

Compare Tata Neu Infinity for eligible Tata ecosystem spending

Use SimplyCLICK and SimplySAVE as fee-level comparisons
SBI Card’s MITC places SimplyCLICK and SimplySAVE at the same ₹499 annual fee and ₹1 lakh preceding-year renewal-waiver threshold as Flex. Their fee similarity does not show that their rewards are equivalent. Compare the current card-specific earning and redemption terms against your actual spending.
Quick Recap
A practical way to make the comparison
- Estimate the fee you will actually pay. Compare the annual or renewal fee with the waiver threshold you can meet through eligible spending—not spending you would add just to reach it.
- Match rewards to your real categories. Identify how much you spend on Google Pay-linked use, Flipkart, Tata brands and other categories. Treat a headline maximum as conditional until the terms show your purchases qualify.
- Convert rewards into usable value. Check the redemption rate, routes, charges, expiry and any limits. Do not equate Flex Stars with rupees without an official conversion rate.
- Price the EMI feature separately. If you expect to convert a bill transaction, check the offered interest rate, tenure, processing fee and eligibility in Google Pay at booking.
- Read the current card-specific terms before applying. Fees, offers and eligibility can change; rely on the live SBI Card terms for the exact card and offer available to you.
