Affected users see duplicated entries and have more difficulty finding genuinely unassigned devices. Early reports indicate that room assignments can still be intact in device settings, so the problem appears to be an app list-categorization or rendering defect rather than a hardware failure.
What the Google Home bug looks like
Normally, the All Devices page groups smart speakers, displays, cameras and other equipment by the rooms assigned in Google Home. With the current defect, those same devices may also appear in “Linked to you,” making the list look as though every device has been added twice.

- Devices assigned to rooms are repeated under “Linked to you.”
- The duplicate entries make truly unassigned devices harder to identify.
- Opening a device’s settings may still show its correct room or placement.
- No evidence in the incident report points to a failed device, lost hardware, or deleted room configuration.
Google’s device-management guidance uses “Linked to you” for equipment linked to an account or to another home. That means some entries in this section can be legitimate; the bug is that devices that should remain represented only in their assigned rooms are appearing there as well.

Why devices can appear under “Linked to you”
Normal account or home linkage
A device moved to another home can remain linked to the first home while being displayed under “In your home,” “Local devices” or “Linked to you” instead of a room name. If a device is genuinely connected to a different home or Google account, its appearance in that section is expected.

The reported duplication defect
In the October 2026 incident, users report that room placement remains visible in settings while the All Devices page adds the same equipment to “Linked to you.” That combination is consistent with a software display or categorization error. It does not establish that the devices have been unassigned.
What to check before contacting support
- Verify each room assignment. In the Google Home app, open the affected device, select its settings, and check the Room or Placement field. Confirm that the intended room is still selected.
- Check the active home and account. Make sure the app is using the intended Google account and home. A device associated with another home can legitimately be listed under “Linked to you.”
- Restart the app. Force-close Google Home, reopen it, and allow the device list to reload.
- Restart the phone or tablet. Google’s general Home and Nest troubleshooting guidance recommends restarting the mobile device as an early step.
- Recheck the list. If the duplicates remain while room settings are correct, treat the issue as a likely list-display bug rather than repeatedly changing assignments.
Which response makes sense?
| Action | Likelihood of helping | Effort and risk | What it can establish |
|---|---|---|---|
| Check room, home and account settings | Useful when the linkage is legitimate or incorrect | Low effort; no destructive change | Whether the device is actually assigned as intended |
| Force-close the app and restart the phone | May clear a temporary loading problem; may not remove this defect | Low effort and low risk | Whether the display recovers after a fresh session |
| Wait for a Google Home update | Most plausible software-side remedy if Google confirms the defect | No device changes; timing uncertain | Whether a later app build contains a correction |
| Contact Google Home/Nest support | Best escalation when duplication persists | Moderate effort; non-destructive | Provides Google with case details while the issue is investigated |
| Factory-reset every device | Not supported by the incident evidence as a fix | High effort; erases configuration and can disrupt automations | Nothing reliable about this specific list problem |
Do not factory-reset devices just because the list is duplicated
A reset removes device configuration and can require you to rebuild rooms, routines and services. The reported behavior shows that room assignments may still exist, and no evidence demonstrates that resetting hardware repairs the All Devices display. Reserve a reset for a separate, confirmed device fault and follow Google’s instructions for that particular model.

How to report the problem effectively
If the duplicate entries remain after checking placement and restarting the app, contact Google Home/Nest support. Include details that help support separate an account-linkage issue from a rendering defect:
- Screenshots of the duplicated All Devices list and the device’s Room or Placement setting.
- The Google Home app version and your phone or tablet platform.
- The home and account arrangement, especially if devices are shared or linked across homes.
- When the duplication first appeared and whether it affects every device or only certain types.
- Whether force-closing the app and restarting the phone changed anything.
Has Google fixed the “Linked to you” duplication bug?
No confirmed patch for this specific October 2026 incident was identified in the available material. Google says the Home team releases new capabilities, features and bug fixes every few weeks, so a future app update could change the behavior. Google’s release history also includes an earlier correction for an Activity tab that showed an incorrect device list, demonstrating that list-rendering defects can be fixed in software; it does not confirm that this incident has already been resolved.

What the symptoms mean
- Room assignment is present, but the device is also in “Linked to you”: likely list duplication; avoid destructive changes.
- Room assignment is missing: check the selected home and account, then assign the device using Google Home’s normal room workflow.
- The device belongs to another home: its “Linked to you” placement may be normal.
- The device is offline or cannot be controlled: that is a separate connectivity or hardware issue and should be troubleshot independently of the duplicate-list report.
