Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteIf Google Health Coach messages keep appearing, first identify where they appear. “No Coach insights” hides future proactive messages on the app’s Today tab. It does not disable Coach. Phone alerts use a separate Push notifications > Coaching switch, while Turn off under Coach/Coaching disables the feature and revokes Coach consent. Use the control that matches the behavior you want to stop.
Choose the control that matches what you see
Google Health has three different controls that are easy to confuse. A setting that hides cards on Today will not necessarily stop a notification banner, and silencing notifications will not remove an insight that you open inside the app. Use this table before changing anything:
| What is still appearing? | Control to use | What it changes | What it does not change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Proactive Coach cards or messages on the Today tab | Google Health settings > Coach > Coach messages on Today > No Coach insights | Hides future proactive Coach insights from Today. | It does not turn off Coach, remove content from other tabs, erase old insights, delete conversations or health data, or remove Coach access to insight history. |
| Phone push alerts about coaching | Profile > Settings > Push notifications > Coaching, then switch it off | Stops Coach push notifications sent by the app. | It does not remove an insight already shown in the app or disable Coach data processing. |
| You want Coach disabled entirely | Profile > Google Health settings > Coach/Coaching > On > Turn off | Turns Coach off, revokes Coach consent, and stops collection or processing for these Coach features going forward. | This is broader than hiding Today messages; it is not just a notification preference. |
Menu wording can change as Google updates the app. The labels above are the documented labels for these controls; if your version uses “Coaching” instead of “Coach,” choose the corresponding entry.

Hide proactive insights on the Today tab
Use this option when you want to keep Coach available elsewhere, such as in Fitness or Sleep, but do not want proactive cards on Today.
- Open the Google Health app.
- Tap your profile picture or initial in the top-right corner.
- Open Google Health settings.
- Tap Coach.
- Under Coach messages on Today, select No Coach insights.
- Tap the Back arrow to leave the page and save the preference.
The Back-arrow step matters because it is the documented way to leave this setting after making the selection. Reopen the same page afterward and confirm that No Coach insights is still selected. Then return to Today and check future updates rather than expecting cards that are already present to disappear immediately.

What “No Coach insights” actually suppresses
This choice is a display preference for future proactive insights on Today. It is not a master off switch. Coach can remain available in other parts of the app, and the setting does not remove insights shown on another tab.
What it leaves intact
- Previously generated insights remain in the places where Google stores or displays them.
- Past insight history is not erased.
- Existing conversations are not deleted.
- Your health data is not deleted.
- Coach access to insight history is not removed.
If your goal is to stop collection or processing for Coach, use the full Coach-off procedure instead of relying on the Today preference.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsStop coaching push notifications
If the unwanted message arrives as a lock-screen, status-bar, or other phone alert, change notification settings rather than the Today-tab preference:
- Open the Google Health app.
- Tap your profile picture or initial.
- Tap Settings.
- Open Push notifications.
- Find Coaching and switch it off.
This control is separate from Coach messages on Today. You can therefore have no push alerts while still seeing Coach content when you open the app, or hide Today messages while leaving other notification categories unchanged. If an alert is not labeled as coaching, identify its category before disabling settings; turning off every app notification is not the documented solution for this specific behavior.
Why a notification can seem to survive the change
Switching off Coaching prevents later Coach pushes. It does not necessarily remove an alert that has already been delivered to the notification shade, nor does it delete content already visible inside Google Health. Dismiss an existing alert, then use a later notification as the test. If a new alert arrives, return to the in-app path and confirm that the Coaching switch is off; do not assume that the Today preference controls phone delivery.
Turn Google Health Coach off completely
Choose this route when you no longer want to use Coach and want to revoke the consent associated with its features.
- Open Google Health and tap your profile picture or initial.
- Go to Google Health settings.
- Open Coach or Coaching, depending on the label shown in your app.
- Find the control that currently shows On.
- Tap Turn off and follow any confirmation prompt.
Google describes this action as revoking Coach consent and stopping collection or processing for these features going forward. It is broader than suppressing Today cards or push alerts. Turning Coach off should therefore be reserved for users who want the feature disabled, not merely a quieter Today screen.

Turning Coach off versus deleting old information
The documented Coach-off control addresses future Coach collection or processing. It is not described as a command to erase all prior health data, insight history, or conversations. If you need information removed, review Google’s separate data-management controls instead of assuming that Turn off performs deletion.
What changes for other app areas
Turning Coach off is the broadest of the three choices. It is different from hiding a Today card because the purpose is to stop the Coach feature and its related consent, not simply change where a message is displayed. Read the confirmation screen carefully so you understand which Coach functions will no longer be available. If you only dislike proactive messages but still want to use Coach in Fitness or Sleep, choose No Coach insights instead.
If insights still appear after you changed a setting
Work through the location of the content first. The same symptom—“Coach is still on”—can come from three different surfaces.
1. The message is on Today
- Return to Profile > Google Health settings > Coach.
- Check that Coach messages on Today is set to No Coach insights.
- Tap the Back arrow after selecting it.
- Reopen the setting to verify that the choice persisted.
- Check whether the item you are seeing is actually on Today. A card in Fitness, Sleep, or another tab is outside this preference’s scope.
The documented setting affects future proactive messages. It does not promise removal of cards already generated or content retained in another tab, so seeing older material does not by itself prove that the preference failed.
2. The message is a phone notification
- Open Profile > Settings > Push notifications > Coaching.
- Switch Coaching off.
- Trigger or wait for a later notification to test the change; an alert already delivered to the notification shade may remain until dismissed.
Do not use the Today-tab setting as a substitute for this notification control. They govern different delivery channels.
3. Coach content appears in another tab or after you open the app
No Coach insights is limited to proactive messages on Today. Content on other tabs, insight history, or existing conversations is not covered by that switch. If you want all Coach functionality stopped, use Turn off under Coach/Coaching.
4. The selection reverts or the setting is missing
Google’s help pages document the controls and basic setup checks but do not provide a specific remedy for a missing setting or a preference that reverts. Record exactly which page, label, and account state you see, then verify the basics below. Avoid treating an unsubstantiated workaround as a guaranteed fix: the official guidance reviewed does not establish that reinstalling the app, clearing its cache, changing the phone’s language, or disabling every phone notification resolves this particular problem.

5. You changed one control while testing another
It is easy to select No Coach insights, see a push alert later, and conclude that the selection did not work. It is equally easy to turn off Coaching notifications and then find a Coach card inside the app. Write down the surface you are testing—Today, another tab, or the phone notification shade—and change only the corresponding control. Test each channel separately.
Complete the basic checks Google recommends
Update the Google Health app
Install the latest available version of Google Health before troubleshooting further. Settings can move or use different labels between releases, so an outdated build may not match the documented path.
Confirm the device and account are set up correctly
Google’s getting-started guidance currently states that Coach availability requires a Fitbit or Pixel Watch and an adult user. The eligibility requirement is over 18. If the account or connected device does not meet those conditions, Coach controls may not appear or may behave differently from the documented experience.
These requirements explain availability; they do not mean that buying a qualifying watch will stop unwanted insights. Hardware eligibility and notification preferences are separate issues.
Check that you are changing the intended account
Open the profile menu and confirm the selected account before editing settings. A preference changed under one Google account will not necessarily affect another account used on the same phone. This is a practical account check; Google’s documented controls remain the source of truth for what the setting is supposed to change.
Check the connected setup before drawing conclusions
If Coach is unavailable, partially configured, or newly enabled after a device connection, first confirm that the app recognizes the Fitbit or Pixel Watch associated with the account. The eligibility guidance identifies those devices and an adult account as requirements for Coach. This check explains why a control might be absent; it is not a replacement for the notification or Today-tab settings when Coach is already active.
Use this decision path for common situations
“I want Coach, just not Today cards.”
Select No Coach insights under Coach messages on Today. Leave Coach on and adjust push notifications separately if alerts are also unwanted.

Use Google Health settings > Coach/Coaching > On > Turn off. This revokes Coach consent and stops collection or processing for those features going forward. Review separate data controls if you also need to manage previously stored information.
“I selected No Coach insights, but old insights remain.”
That is consistent with the documented limit: the preference hides future proactive Today messages but does not delete past insights, conversations, health data, or insight history.
“I turned off notifications, but I still see Coach when I open Google Health.”
Push-notification settings affect alerts, not in-app content. Use the Today preference or the full Coach-off control according to whether you want to hide one surface or disable Coach.
“I cannot find the word Coach.”
Look for Coaching where the app uses that variation. Google documents both labels in different settings paths. Start from the profile menu, distinguish Google Health settings from ordinary Settings, and then match the surface: Today messages belong under Coach settings, while phone alerts belong under Push notifications.

“I changed the setting but cannot tell whether it saved.”
After selecting No Coach insights, tap the Back arrow, reopen the same page, and verify the selection. For notifications, return to Push notifications > Coaching and confirm the switch remains off. A later test should use a new message, not an old card or already-delivered alert.

Choosing the narrowest control avoids changing more than you intend:
Best Value
- No Coach insights: changes future Today-tab display only.
- Coaching push notifications off: changes phone alert delivery only.
- Turn off Coach: revokes consent and stops future Coach collection or processing, according to Google’s data guidance.
None of the first two options is described as deleting data. The Today preference specifically leaves prior insights, conversations, health data, insight history, and Coach access to that history in place.
This distinction also explains why several controls may be needed for a quieter experience. Someone who wants no Today cards and no phone alerts can select No Coach insights and separately disable Coaching notifications. Someone who wants to end Coach processing should use Turn off, rather than relying on either display preference.

Common pitfalls to avoid
- Confusing “No Coach insights” with “Turn off.” The first hides future Today messages; the second disables Coach and revokes consent.
- Expecting old cards to vanish. The Today choice is not an erase command for past insights, conversations, health data, or history.
- Testing the wrong surface. A push alert and an in-app card use different settings.
- Leaving the settings page without saving. Use the documented Back-arrow step, then reopen the page to confirm.
- Disabling every notification as a first step. The documented Coaching switch is more precise and does not change unrelated notification categories.
- Assuming a watch purchase is a fix. Fitbit or Pixel Watch ownership is an eligibility condition, not a remedy for unwanted messages.
- Relying on unsupported workarounds. Google’s published help does not establish reinstalling, clearing cache, changing language, or disabling all notifications as fixes for a setting that is missing or reverts.
A final verification checklist
- Identify whether the unwanted item is on Today, another tab, or a phone notification.
- For Today, select No Coach insights under Google Health settings > Coach > Coach messages on Today.
- Tap Back to save, then reopen the page and confirm the selection persisted.
- For phone alerts, switch off Profile > Settings > Push notifications > Coaching.
- For a complete shutdown, use Profile > Google Health settings > Coach/Coaching > On > Turn off.
- Update Google Health and confirm the account, device setup, adult age requirement, and Fitbit or Pixel Watch eligibility.
- If a control is missing or reverts, note the exact screen and label; Google’s published guidance does not specify a guaranteed workaround for that case.
Navigation labels and Coach availability can change as Google updates the product. The paths above follow Google Health Help Center guidance reviewed October 13, 2026. If your app differs, use the closest matching Coach, Coaching, Today, and Push notifications entries rather than assuming that one switch controls every type of message.

Open Profile > Settings > Push notifications, find Coaching, and switch it off. This stops Coach push alerts but does not remove in-app content.
How do I disable Coach completely?
Go to Profile > Google Health settings > Coach or Coaching, open the control showing On, and tap Turn off. Google describes this as revoking Coach consent and stopping future collection or processing for those features.

What if the setting is missing or keeps reverting?
Update Google Health, confirm the correct account and eligible setup, and reopen the page to verify the selection. Google’s documented help does not provide a specific guaranteed workaround for a missing or reverting preference.
The Bottom Line
