Buy the Pixel Watch 5 if you want a documented smartwatch and fitness tracker today. Google lists its sizes, fitness features, battery estimates and Android requirements. Fitbit Edge, by contrast, has appeared in leak coverage but is not listed on Google’s current product comparison page; its reported features and availability are not confirmed. If Edge’s reported longer battery life or smaller tracker design appeals to you, wait for Google to confirm the product before making a decision.
Is Fitbit Edge available to buy?
Not according to the sources available as of October 7, 2026. Google’s product comparison page lists Pixel Watch 5 and Fitbit Air, but not Edge. TechRadar and Android Central have reported leaked images and specifications, which is not the same as an official launch or confirmed product listing. That does not establish that Google has denied or canceled Edge; it means shoppers should treat its name, features, release timing and availability as unconfirmed.

So this is not yet a like-for-like comparison between two confirmed products. The practical choice is Pixel Watch 5 if you are buying now, or waiting for official Edge details if you are interested in the reported tracker-style design.

Which is better for fitness tracking?
Pixel Watch 5: the documented choice for training features
Google lists more than 50 exercise modes for Pixel Watch 5, along with Daily Readiness Score, cardio load and target cardio load, run-tracking features and heart-zone tools. Its dual-frequency GPS is also an officially listed specification. These details make it the more evidence-backed option if you want a watch for tracking workouts and reviewing training-related metrics. A specification list alone, however, does not prove better GPS or heart-rate accuracy in real-world use.
Fitbit Edge: potentially simpler, but its final capabilities are unknown
Leak reports describe Edge as a tracker with a small display, basic activity tracking and limited smart features. TechRadar’s October 5, 2026 report attributes information to Android Headlines and mentions GPS, elevation tracking, automatic activity tracking, notifications, and reported support for Google Maps, YouTube Music and Find My Phone. Android Central describes leaked renders with heart-rate and step information and a workout shortcut. None of these descriptions is an official specification, and the final exercise modes and feature set are not established.

There is no verified head-to-head test here showing that either device measures heart rate, distance or workouts more accurately. Google says Fitbit’s optical heart-rate readings can vary with personal physiology, device placement and activity. Wrist movement during cycling or weightlifting can interfere with the signal, and readings may differ from a chest strap or another device. Fitbit readings are not a substitute for clinical assessment. Google’s Fitbit heart-rate guidance recommends placing the sensor against the skin, wearing the device about a finger’s width above the wrist bone outside exercise, and wearing it snugly and slightly higher during exercise without constricting the wrist.
Battery life, phone compatibility and form factor
Choose Pixel Watch 5 for a smartwatch you can buy now
Pixel Watch 5 is the clear choice if you want a full smartwatch as well as fitness tracking, and your phone runs Android 12.0 or newer. Google lists two sizes and says the 45 mm model has a higher estimated battery life than the 41 mm model when always-on display is enabled. Those figures are manufacturer estimates; actual battery life can vary with use.

Wait for confirmation if Edge’s reported advantages matter
The reported seven-day battery estimate and iPhone support could make Edge appealing to people who want a smaller tracker or do not use Android. But neither advantage is confirmed by Google, and Edge’s reported battery figure is not directly comparable to an official manufacturer estimate. Do not buy on the assumption that Edge will work with your iPhone or last a week between charges.
If you want a currently documented Fitbit option that works with iPhone, Google lists Fitbit Air for Android 11.0 or newer and iOS 16.4 or newer, with up to seven days of battery life and more than 40 exercise modes. Fitbit Air is a screen-free tracker, not a confirmed stand-in for Edge’s reportedly screen-equipped design. Its compatibility and battery figures are Google’s product specifications and estimates.

Who should buy which device?
- Buy Pixel Watch 5 now if you want an officially listed smartwatch with documented fitness tools and use Android 12.0 or newer.
- Wait for official Edge details if you prefer a smaller tracker, want to know whether iPhone support is real, or are drawn to the reported longer battery estimate.
- Consider Fitbit Air if you want a currently documented, screen-free Fitbit tracker with listed iPhone compatibility.
Before choosing Edge, look for an official announcement and verify the final name, supported phones, features, price and availability for your region. Until then, Pixel Watch 5 is the more dependable buy for fitness tracking today—not because a head-to-head test proves it more accurate, but because its relevant features and requirements are documented.
