Google easter eggs are those weird-but-fun, intentionally playful effects and hidden mini-games that show up when you use specific search terms or open certain Google experiences. They’re not “hacks” in the security sense—just surprises baked into Google Search, Doodles, and related pages.

This guide gives you 15 of our favorites with the exact trigger phrases (and a couple of reliable alternate routes). If you’re also watching a video version of this list, use it as a quick checklist and come back here for the “what to type” details.

What counts as a Google easter egg?

Typically, a Google easter egg is a UI animation, interactive page, or hidden game that appears after you enter a known query or open a specific Google property (like a Doodle). The key is that it’s intentional and discoverable via a trigger—not a random glitch.

Because Google updates experiments frequently, some easter eggs may be region-limited, time-limited, or replaced by newer versions. Where that’s common, this guide calls it out.

Prerequisites before you start

  • Browser: Use a modern desktop browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari). Many easter eggs rely on JavaScript effects.
  • Device: Desktop works best. Some Search-based effects don’t show up as clearly on mobile.
  • Cookies + JavaScript: If you block third-party cookies or disable JavaScript, interactive easter eggs may fail.
  • Internet: Offline-only items (like the Chrome dinosaur) won’t work until you put the browser into the right state.
  • Be precise: Search terms are case-insensitive, but spacing and punctuation can matter. Copy/paste the phrase when possible.

15 Google easter eggs we like (with exact triggers)

Try these on google.com. For anything that feels “missing,” jump to the troubleshooting section and use the alternate routes.

1) Do a barrel roll

On Google Search, type do a barrel roll and press Enter. The page will physically roll—your browser’s way of saying “nice one.”

If nothing happens, try again in a fresh tab, and confirm JavaScript is enabled.

2) Askew

Search askew. The Google page tilts sideways and looks like it’s been prank-rotated.

This one is usually quick and requires no extra clicks.

3) Tilt

Search tilt. The layout shifts into a tilted perspective, similar in spirit to Askew.

Google has varied results over time, so if this doesn’t trigger, don’t assume your setup is broken—move to another item.

4) Zerg Rush

Search zerg rush. A “swarm” effect attacks the page, turning the search results into something closer to a mini-game.

Monopoly Arcade Pac-Man Game Board Game for Kids Ages 8 and Up; Includes Banking and Arcade Unit
  • MONOPOLY GAME WITH PAC-MAN THEME: Did you play the classic Pac-Man arcade game back in the 80s? Relive favorite moments with this Pac-Man themed Monopoly Arcade board game
  • ARCADE IS BANKING UNIT: In the Monopoly Arcade Pac-Man game players play for points instead of money. Earn points by buying Levels and playing mini games of Pac-Man on the banking and arcade unit
  • THE GHOST: Players move around the board as Pac-Man, and also move the Ghost token on their turn. The Ghost Die determines how far the Ghost token moves
  • POWER UP, POWER PELLET AND MAZE SPACES: Players move around the board and can advance to or steal a Level depending on the space they land on. If they pass or land on Go they get to play Pac-Man
  • FOR PAC-MAN FANS: Players insert their plastic arcade coin into the banking and arcade unit to check scores, pay rent, buy, sell, or steal Levels, play mini games of Pac-Man, and more

If you see it only partially, wait a few seconds—some effects render after the page finishes loading.

5) Google Gravity

Google Gravity is one of the most famous interactive easter eggs. In many setups, searching google gravity brings up a working version; alternatively, use a known working mirror at https://elgoog.net/gravity.

Click and drag elements after it loads—then watch the page fall like physics is real.

6) Google “Let’s do this” (Search Pong-style redirects)

Search queries sometimes trigger playful redirect or animated pages. If lets do this doesn’t show anything, try the exact phrase lets do this google to increase the chance of matching the intended experiment.

Because these change often, treat this one as “try and see,” not a guaranteed trigger.

7) Thanos snap

Search thanos. You should see a result that lets you “snap,” reducing content in a satisfying (and slightly alarming) way.

This tends to be versioned, so the exact visuals can differ by day.

8) Google Dino (Chrome offline game)

This isn’t a Google Search term, but it’s a canonical Google ecosystem easter egg. Turn off internet (or enable airplane mode), open a new tab, and visit a non-loading page in Chrome—then press Space to start the dinosaur game.

10) Conway’s Game of Life

Search Conway's Game of Life. If the experiment is available in your Google region, you’ll get an interactive “cellular automata” style page.

Toggle patterns and watch them evolve—this one is surprisingly addictive.

11) Google Solitaire (playing-card animations)

12) Flip a coin (interactive outcome)

Search flip a coin. Google often returns an interactive flip with real animation rather than a static answer.

If the coin doesn’t animate, try coin toss—the intent matches multiple experiences.

13) Roll a die

Search roll a die (or roll die). The results should show a dice roll you can trigger repeatedly.

This is one of the simplest “easter egg-adjacent” interactions and usually works reliably.

14) Star Wars (limited-time Doodle experiences)

Search Star Wars Google Doodle and open the Doodle result if it appears. Google has used Star Wars themes in periodic Doodles and interactive pages.

Because it’s time-dependent, treat this as a “check and play” item rather than a permanent toggle.

15) Google Maps: Street View easter eggs (tourist mode quirks)

Some of Google’s most fun surprises live in Google Maps rather than Search. Open Google Maps, then explore around known easter-egg points (for example, themed locations shared in community posts) and watch for changes in Street View behavior.

If you want an experiment that’s guaranteed to work, stick to the Search-based ones above; Map easter eggs can change faster.

Troubleshooting: when an easter egg doesn’t appear

When a trigger doesn’t work, it’s usually one of a few things: the experiment is retired, your region doesn’t serve it, or your browser is blocking the script it needs.

  • Revisit the 1980s and the glory days of arcade gaming with this retro-inspired PAC-MAN Labyrinth maze game.

Check the basics fast

  • Try an incognito/private window to rule out extensions and cached experiments.
  • Disable content blockers temporarily (uBlock Origin, Brave shields, aggressive tracking protection).
  • Confirm JavaScript is enabled (settings icon → site settings → JavaScript).
  • Use desktop if you’re on mobile.

Clear caching without nuking your whole life

Hard refresh can help when Google is trying (and failing) to load the interactive layer. In most browsers, use Ctrl + Shift + R (Windows/Linux) or Cmd + Shift + R (macOS).

If it still doesn’t appear, try a different browser (e.g., Edge vs Chrome) to isolate an extension problem.

Use alternate routes for the most famous ones

For Gravity-style physics and a few older Search tricks, mirrors/archives can be the reliable fallback when Google stops serving the Search-triggered version.

Easter egg Primary trigger Reliable alternate route
Google Gravity Search google gravity https://elgoog.net/gravity
Classic Google physics/archive pages Search various known phrases Try an elgoog.net experiment page that matches the effect

Use mirrors only as a fallback—if you’re seeing an official Google Doodle or Search result, prefer that.

When the experiment appears but won’t respond

  • Give it 10–20 seconds for heavy animations to finish loading.
  • Scroll once (some scripts pause until user interaction).
  • Check DevTools console if you’re comfortable: blocklisted scripts often show up as errors.

How to find more (without guessing blindly)

Google easter eggs rotate. The fastest way to keep discovering new ones is to use a combination of exact search phrases and community-curated lists that document working triggers.

Use exact-match queries

Try the pattern site:google.com for older results and phrase-based searches for newer ones. If you’re using a phrase list, copy/paste the whole wording to avoid accidental mismatches.

Search for “Google Doodle” plus the name

For time-dependent experiments (like PAC-MAN, Star Wars, and other themed doodles), searching Google Doodle alongside the topic tends to surface the right interactive page even when the original trigger query changes.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Keep a short personal checklist

Since some items rotate out, maintain your own list of the triggers that currently work for you. That way you don’t waste time repeating broken ones next week.

Bottom Line

Google easter eggs are a fun reminder that search results can be interactive, not just informative. If you want the highest success rate, start with Search-triggered classics like do a barrel roll, askew, and zerg rush, then branch out to physics and Doodles when your favorites aren’t firing.

When something doesn’t show, don’t assume you’re doing it wrong—try a fresh tab, check JavaScript, and use alternate routes for the most famous experiments like Google Gravity.
