Google Calendar’s mobile app syncs past events for up to one year; that does not mean Google deletes events after a year. For older entries, check Google Calendar on the web. Deleted events have a separate limit: they remain in that calendar’s Trash for 30 days.
What the one-year limit means
Google says the Calendar app syncs past events only up to one year and directs users to calendar.google.com to find older events. This is an app sync window, not a stated deletion schedule. Google’s published guidance does not specify an overall maximum retention period for undeleted events, so it does not promise that every old event will remain available indefinitely.

The key distinction is whether an event is merely missing from the app or was actually deleted:

| Situation | Documented time window | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| Past events not appearing in the Calendar app | The app syncs past events up to one year, according to Google Calendar Help. | Check calendar.google.com for older events. |
| Events deleted or marked as spam | They remain in that calendar’s Trash for 30 days, according to Google Calendar Help. | Restore the event from the correct calendar’s Trash before it expires. |
Find past events that are missing from your phone
- Open the web calendar. On a computer or in a browser, sign in at calendar.google.com and check the date range where the event should appear.
- Confirm the account. Make sure you are signed in to the Google Account that owns or has access to the calendar where the event was created.
- Make the calendar visible. In the calendar list, check that the relevant calendar is selected and displayed.
- Check where the event was created. Google notes that events added to a calendar not associated with the Google Account may not appear in the Calendar app or on calendar.google.com.
If the event appears on the web but not in the app, the one-year sync limit may explain why an older entry is absent from the phone or tablet.

Recover an event that was deleted
Deleted and spam-marked events stay in the Trash belonging to their calendar for 30 days. Trash is separate for each calendar, so check the calendar where the event was originally created. You also need suitable access to that calendar to view or restore its items.
- On a computer, open Google Calendar and select the calendar where the event was created.
- Open Settings, then Trash.
- Find the event and choose the restore option while it is still in Trash.
If the event is not there, check whether you are viewing the correct calendar and whether you have permission to access its Trash. After 30 days, an event is no longer available there for restoration.

Recurring-event exception
When a recurring event is deleted using “This and following events” or “All following,” the future instances are removed without being moved to Trash. They therefore cannot be restored from Trash. This is different from deleting an individual event that is still within the 30-day Trash window.
Save a separate copy of available calendar data
To preserve records that are still available, export a calendar from Google Calendar on a computer. Calendar export creates .ics files for one calendar or all calendars. It requires “Make changes and manage sharing” permission, and a work or school administrator may restrict exporting.
Google’s data download can include available event details such as start and end times, recurring-event information, invitees and responses, titles, descriptions, locations, and creation or modification times. It covers data that has not been deleted; it is a way to keep a copy, not a method for recovering already deleted events.
