The possibility comes from a teardown of Google Calendar for Android version 2026.38.0-989268529-release; Google has not announced that the feature is coming.
What the possible change would do
Today, the consumer setting is described as one default event duration for an account’s calendars, with that choice syncing across devices and platforms. The work-in-progress design reported by Android Authority could move duration controls to individual calendars. That could make it possible, for example, to use a shorter default for a work calendar and a longer one for a family calendar.
The practical difference is one account-wide choice versus separate defaults for each calendar. This would matter most to people who keep distinct calendars for schedules with different typical event lengths. The report does not establish how the possible controls would work when creating events on the web or on other devices.
What is known—and what is not
- The finding came from a teardown of Google Calendar for Android version 2026.38.0-989268529-release, as reported by Android Authority on October 2, 2026.
- The report describes a possible move from a global default to per-calendar defaults; it is not a public feature announcement.
- No launch date, rollout geography, eligible account list, or confirmation that Google will remove the global setting has been established.
As the report cautions, “An APK teardown helps predict features that may arrive on a service in the future based on work-in-progress code. However, it is possible that such predicted features may not make it to a public release.”

How this differs from Workspace administrator settings
Google Workspace Help’s search-result text describes a separate organization-level default for supported Workspace editions and says users may set a different default for their own calendars. That administrator setting is distinct from the Android teardown: the available information does not show that the reported per-calendar controls are part of, or connected to, Workspace administration.

Until Google confirms a release, treat per-calendar defaults as a possibility rather than a setting you can rely on. If you need tailored event durations now, a third-party Chrome extension called Google Calendar Defaults advertises configurable event durations and related defaults. It is not Google’s reported native feature, and its listing does not establish that it will provide the same behavior.
