Choose Google Antigravity if you want an agent-first command center that coordinates asynchronous work across an editor, terminal and browser. Choose Cursor if you want an AI editor whose Agent is embedded in a familiar repository-editing loop. Both can search code, change files, execute terminal commands and involve a browser, so neither is a universal capability winner. The practical decision is how you want work delegated, reviewed and rolled back.

No independent head-to-head benchmark establishes that either product writes better code, finishes tasks faster or is more reliable. Treat the choice as a workflow decision, then test both on the same repository if code quality or speed is a release criterion.

What Google Antigravity is built to do

Google describes Antigravity as an agentic development environment: agents are integrated into the workspace and have tools for the editor, terminal and browser. The distinction is not that other coding assistants lack automation; it is that Antigravity makes agents the organizing surface of the IDE.

Its documented local agents can work asynchronously and in parallel across workspaces. A practical example is splitting a feature into a backend change, a frontend change and a verification task, then allowing separate agents to progress while you inspect their outputs. Parallelism still requires you to define boundaries, resolve conflicting edits and decide which result is acceptable.

Antigravity also treats a task as more than a final patch. Google lists structured artifacts such as Markdown plans, code-diff views, architecture diagrams, images and browser recordings. Those artifacts can make a long-running task easier to audit: a reviewer can read the plan, inspect the diff and watch the browser evidence instead of inferring intent from the final files alone.

The browser agent is described as capable of acting in a browser for development work, including reading dashboards, performing source-control actions and testing a user interface. Browser access is powerful and consequential: use a test account, least-privilege credentials and a clean staging environment when an agent can submit forms, alter settings or trigger deployments.

Antigravity’s editor options

Google lists extensions for VS Code, Visual Studio 2026, JetBrains products, Zed and Xcode. The VS Code extension is listed for macOS, Linux and Windows. Visual Studio support is described as an official VSIX for Visual Studio 2026 and .NET solution architectures. JetBrains, Zed and Xcode have their own support and enterprise-preview qualifications.

Those labels do not guarantee identical behavior across every operating system or IDE release. Check the extension page and your organization’s software catalog for the exact editor version, sign-in method and preview status you need. If you rely on specialized debugger, build or language-server integrations, validate them in a small project before moving a production repository.

What Cursor Agent is built to do

Cursor’s documentation describes Agent as an assistant that can complete complex coding tasks independently, run terminal commands and edit code. That is Cursor’s vendor description, not an independent performance finding. In a repository session, the Agent can search the codebase, read and edit files, execute terminal commands, search the web and control a browser.

Browser control is documented for taking screenshots, testing an application and checking visual changes. This makes a loop such as “implement the component, start the local app, inspect the rendered page and adjust the CSS” possible without leaving the coding environment. As with any browser automation, keep credentials and irreversible actions out of an unattended run.

Cursor documents instructions and rules that shape how the Agent works, along with a selected model and its available tools. You can use those controls to encode repository conventions, test commands and review requirements. The documentation also describes integrations with GitHub, GitLab, Azure DevOps, Bitbucket, JetBrains, Slack and Linear, as well as models from several providers. Integration and model lists can change by plan and over time.

Cursor’s review and recovery mechanism

Cursor checkpoints save codebase snapshots before significant Agent changes and let you restore a prior state. A checkpoint is useful when an otherwise reasonable task takes a wrong turn: restore the snapshot, tighten the instruction or rule, and run the task again. Keep normal version control as the source of truth; a checkpoint is a session convenience, not a substitute for commits, branches, code review or backups.

Where the workflows actually differ

Delegated work versus an interactive coding loop

Antigravity’s asynchronous local agents and parallel subagents emphasize delegation. You can think in terms of tasks moving through a workspace: each agent produces a plan, changes and supporting artifacts for you to review. This approach is attractive when a feature naturally decomposes into independent work and you want progress while you handle another task.

Cursor emphasizes an Agent operating inside the editor you are already using. You ask for a change, inspect the proposed edits, run or request tests, and continue refining the same session. It is a natural fit when the developer wants to stay close to every file change and make frequent steering decisions.

Neither pattern is inherently safer or faster. Parallel agents can reduce waiting but increase merge and coordination work. A single interactive session can be easier to follow but may require more of your attention.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Artifacts versus checkpoints

Choose Antigravity’s artifact-oriented flow when the deliverable must explain itself. Plans, diagrams, images and browser recordings can give teammates context around a change, particularly for UI work or architecture decisions.

Choose Cursor’s checkpoint-oriented flow when the main risk is an unwanted edit during an exploratory session. A restorable snapshot gives you a quick escape hatch while you iterate. In either tool, commit meaningful milestones to your normal source-control workflow and ask the agent to state what it changed and how it verified the result.

Browser-based UI verification

Both products document browser control, but availability can depend on the selected plan, model and operating environment. Before adopting browser-heavy automation, verify four things:

  • Your test data and credentials cannot expose production systems.

For a fair comparison, give each tool the same UI task, seed data, browser and acceptance checklist. Record whether it found the right page, made the intended change, passed the same tests and left behind reviewable evidence.

Editor, operating-system and team fit

Antigravity offers a standalone IDE concept plus documented extensions. That gives a team two adoption paths: move the workflow into the agent-first environment, or add Antigravity capabilities to a supported editor. The extension route may reduce retraining, but support details vary by editor and preview status.

Cursor is itself an AI editor. Its documentation covers common development-service integrations, but the cited material does not establish that it can be installed as an extension inside every editor your team may use. If your workflow depends on a particular IDE, compare the exact installation and debugging experience rather than assuming “supports JetBrains” or “supports VS Code” means equivalent behavior.

For a team standard, test repository indexing, language servers, debugger attachment, terminal profiles, formatting, test discovery and pull-request review in the actual operating systems your developers use. An agent that edits code well but disrupts these surrounding tools may not fit the workflow.

Models, quotas and what the plans imply

Antigravity individual plans

Google’s pricing page lists an individual Antigravity plan at $0 per month. It includes access to agent models, unlimited Tab completions and unlimited Command requests, alongside basic weekly rate limits. “Unlimited” here applies to the named Tab and Command features; agent usage is still subject to the stated limits and plan conditions.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The same page describes Google AI Pro as adding higher rate limits and a flexible AI credit pool, while Google AI Ultra adds still more limits and a flexible credit pool. Subscription names, quotas, credit rules and regional eligibility are time-sensitive. Check the live pricing page for your country and account before estimating how many agent tasks your team can run.

Cursor model and price verification

Cursor’s documentation shows models from several providers, but the roster and availability can vary by plan. The current page at cursor.com/pricing combines Cursor plan material with X/Grok benefits and says prices may change; it also mentions separate billing for third-party model usage. Because that page is mixed, do not use a displayed dollar amount there as a clean Cursor-only subscription comparison.

Instead, sign in to the account you intend to use, note the models and usage limits it actually exposes, and obtain a current Cursor-specific price and billing explanation. Ask whether usage is metered by requests, model credits, tokens or another allowance, and whether third-party models incur charges outside the base plan.

A useful quota test

Estimate your monthly workload by separating lightweight completion use from agent tasks. Track how many repository-wide searches, terminal runs, browser checks and long-context conversations a typical feature requires. Run that workload for a week on each candidate, record when limits intervene and include the time spent rewriting prompts or restarting tasks. This produces a decision based on your coding volume rather than a nominal plan label.

Enterprise deployment, governance and data questions

Antigravity’s documented enterprise boundary

Google’s documentation states: “Antigravity IDE is not supported for enterprise customers.” The same documentation directs enterprise users to Antigravity 2.0 or Antigravity CLI. Treat the standalone IDE and Google’s enterprise offerings as different product surfaces when your organization requires an approved deployment.

For enterprise extensions, Google describes Gemini Enterprise and Google Cloud authentication and governance. It says covered enterprise interactions are governed by Google Cloud terms and identifies controls including IAM and VPC Service Controls. Some IDE integrations are described as previews, so confirm which controls apply to the exact editor, region and subscription you plan to deploy.

Cursor due diligence

Cursor documents team and enterprise products, but the material cited here does not establish a detailed privacy or compliance comparison. Ask your security and procurement teams to review the current contractual terms, retention settings, model-routing options, administrator controls, audit records and incident procedures. Do not infer that a feature listed for an individual account carries the same guarantees in an enterprise deployment.

Questions every organization should answer

  • Can prompts, source files, terminal output or browser screenshots leave the approved region or service boundary?
  • Which identity provider, groups and device policies control access?
  • Can administrators restrict extensions, models, tools, network destinations and browser actions?
  • How long are prompts, outputs, checkpoints, artifacts and logs retained?
  • What is the process for deleting data when a developer leaves?
  • Which product surface is approved: a standalone IDE, an extension, a CLI or an enterprise-specific offering?

How to choose by workflow

Choose Antigravity when these statements sound like your team

  • You want agents to be the main workspace rather than an assistant panel attached to a conventional editor.
  • You regularly split work across independent tasks or workspaces and value asynchronous, parallel progress.
  • Plans, diagrams, diffs, images or browser recordings are useful review deliverables.
  • Your editor is among the documented VS Code, Visual Studio 2026, JetBrains, Zed or Xcode targets, and you have confirmed its platform qualifications.
  • The free individual plan’s basic weekly limits cover your usage, or your account qualifies for a Google AI subscription with higher limits.

Choose Cursor when these statements sound like your team

  • You want an AI editor centered on an existing repository-editing and terminal workflow.
  • You prefer to steer one Agent session closely, with repository rules and frequent review of file changes.
  • Browser screenshots, application tests and visual checks are useful, but you do not need an artifact-first command center.
  • Restorable checkpoints are more valuable to you than a collection of task-level plans and recordings.
  • Your required model, integrations and usage limits are available in the current account and plan you have verified.

When neither is an obvious winner

If your team needs enterprise deployment, begin with the approved product surface and contractual terms, not the feature list. If you need the fastest or most accurate code generation, neither cited source answers that question. Run a controlled evaluation instead of treating vendor descriptions as benchmark results.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A controlled two-tool evaluation

A short, repeatable trial can turn a subjective preference into evidence without pretending to be a universal benchmark.

  1. Use one repository. Choose a representative project with a documented build, test suite and staging environment. Remove secrets and production credentials.
  2. Define identical tasks. Include one bug fix, one cross-file feature, one refactor and one UI change that requires visual checking.
  3. Lock the conditions. Use the same branch, acceptance criteria, test data, operating system and approximate model tier. Record the product version, model and plan.
  4. Specify verification. Require the same unit tests, lint command, integration test and browser checklist. Ask each agent to report commands and failures.
  5. Measure the work, not just the answer. Record elapsed developer time, agent waiting time, number of steering prompts, files changed, test results, review effort and rollback events.
  6. Inspect maintainability. Review architecture, error handling, documentation, dependency changes and security implications. A passing test run alone is not a quality verdict.
  7. Repeat important tasks. Run each task more than once if you intend to make a performance claim. Publish the method and results, including failures.

This protocol can tell you which workflow fits your repository and team. It cannot establish a universal ranking across languages, models, prompts or future releases.

Practical setup patterns

An Antigravity task pattern

  1. Open the supported Antigravity IDE or a confirmed extension host and sign in with the account appropriate to your plan.
  2. Create a task brief that names the repository, desired behavior, files or services in scope, test commands and prohibited actions.
  3. Ask for a Markdown plan before implementation. For a multi-part feature, divide independent work into separate agent tasks and state how conflicts will be resolved.
  4. Let agents work on isolated branches or workspaces where your source-control policy permits it.
  5. Review each task’s plan, diff and supporting artifacts. For UI work, inspect the browser recording or screenshots against the acceptance checklist.
  6. Run tests yourself or in a controlled CI environment, then merge only the changes that satisfy the review criteria.

A Cursor Agent pattern

  1. Open the repository in Cursor and provide the project rules, required commands, coding conventions and files that must not be touched.
  2. Ask Agent to inspect the relevant code and propose a plan before editing. Keep the request narrow enough that you can review the resulting diff.
  3. Allow codebase search, file edits and terminal execution as needed, but require the Agent to show commands and summarize failures.
  4. Use a checkpoint before a risky or broad change. If the result is wrong, restore the checkpoint, adjust the instruction and retry.
  5. For UI changes, start the approved local or staging app, use browser screenshots or tests, and compare the result with explicit visual criteria.
  6. Commit a coherent change to version control only after tests, review and security checks pass.

Common pitfalls and how to avoid them

Assuming “agentic” means unattended

Both products can take multi-step actions, but an agent still needs scoped permissions, clear acceptance criteria and human review. Keep deployment, credential changes and destructive database operations behind explicit approval.

Comparing plan names instead of effective capacity

Weekly limits, flexible credits, model availability and third-party billing determine how much work you can actually complete. Record the limits shown for your account and recheck them before a team rollout.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Using browser control against production

Browser automation can read dashboards or perform source-control actions. Use staging, synthetic data and least-privilege accounts so an incorrect click cannot create an outage or expose customer information.

Treating a checkpoint or artifact as version control

Checkpoints and task artifacts improve review, but they do not replace branches, commits, pull requests, backups or CI. Preserve the normal engineering controls around agent-generated changes.

Ignoring editor-specific friction

An extension may be available while a debugger, language server or build integration behaves differently from the standalone product. Test the exact editor version and operating system used by your team.

Bottom line

Antigravity is the stronger workflow fit when you want an agent-first environment, parallel asynchronous work and rich task artifacts across editor, terminal and browser. Cursor is the stronger fit when you want an AI editor with repository search, terminal execution, browser checks and checkpoints embedded in a close, iterative coding loop. For enterprise use, let approved deployment and data terms decide first. For speed, accuracy or code quality, run the same controlled tasks in both products; the available documentation does not prove a winner.
