Google Antigravity is an agentic development platform: rather than only suggesting code, it is designed to let AI agents plan and carry out software tasks across an editor, terminal, and browser. Google introduced it in November 2025; its later Antigravity 2.0 documentation describes a standalone application for orchestrating agents. Whether that amounts to changing computing forever is still an open question, not an established historical fact.
What is Google Antigravity?
Google introduced Antigravity on November 18, 2025, as an agentic development platform. Its central idea is to give agents a broader software-development workflow than code completion or a chat panel: an agent can work in the editor, run commands in a terminal, and interact with a browser as part of a task. Google described it as a way to plan and execute complex, end-to-end development work. Google’s launch announcement and its November 20, 2025 developer overview lay out that original product concept.
That distinction is useful: an assistant that proposes a code fragment still leaves most of the workflow to the developer, while Antigravity’s stated aim is to let an agent move between tools to complete a larger task. The distinction describes the product’s design, not a guarantee that an agent will finish a task correctly.
How does Google Antigravity work?
At launch, Google presented two connected work surfaces: an Editor view for hands-on coding and a Manager surface for assigning and monitoring work across agents and workspaces. An agent might write a feature, launch a local application, and test it in a browser. The Manager view is intended to support asynchronous work, while the Editor view keeps direct coding and agent interaction together. These are Google-described workflows, not independent test results.

- Attention-grabbing design meets the latest evolution of the Google Pixel Camera on the new Google Pixel 11 Pro; Gemini Intelligence helps manage details so you can live in the moment[1]; and the phone is available in two sizes
- Unlocked Android phone gives you the flexibility to change carriers and choose your own data plan: Works with Google Fi, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and other major carriers[2]
- Stay informed without looking at your screen: When your phone is face down, Pixel HiLight gently alerts you with subtle glowing lights when your favorite contacts are calling or you’re talking with Gemini; exclusive to Google Pixel 11 Pro phones
- Magic Capture catches the moment as you live it: With just one tap, Pixel 11 Pro captures video and photos, and automatically edits, crops, and unblurs a curated collection, ready to share – and you get the memory of how it felt to be in the moment
- Two new cameras for more brilliant photos: A larger telephoto sensor captures 30% more light for clear, beautiful photos and videos, even in the dark[3]; Pixel’s longest zoom ever helps you capture details from impressive distances[4]
Editor view
The Editor view combines a familiar coding environment with completions, inline commands, and an agent panel. It is the more direct route when a developer wants to work in a project and guide an agent alongside normal editing.
Manager surface
The Manager surface is designed for starting, coordinating, and observing agents across workspaces. Its asynchronous orientation lets a developer delegate work and inspect progress rather than keeping every interaction in a single editor session.

Artifacts for review
Google says agents can produce “Artifacts” such as implementation plans, task lists, walkthroughs, screenshots, and browser recordings. A developer can review these and provide feedback while work is underway. They make parts of an agent’s process more inspectable; their presence does not establish that generated code is correct or that a test has adequately verified it.
What is Antigravity 2.0?
Google’s documentation describes Antigravity 2.0 as a standalone desktop application and a central interface for launching, monitoring, and orchestrating agents. In other words, 2.0 extends the original IDE-plus-Manager framing into an application explicitly organized around agent orchestration. Google’s Antigravity 2.0 overview lists capabilities including system-command execution, file reading and writing, web searches, external tools through skills and MCP servers, subagents, Chrome interaction, artifacts, and implementation plans.

These capabilities mean an agent can affect a working environment: it may modify files, execute commands, or interact with a browser. Review consequential actions and generated changes rather than treating agent activity or its own verification as proof of correctness or safety.
What is the difference between Antigravity IDE and Antigravity 2.0?
“Antigravity IDE” refers to the launch-era description of an AI-powered coding environment paired with an agent-management surface. Antigravity 2.0 is described in Google’s current documentation as a standalone application centered on launching and orchestrating agents. The difference is primarily in scope and framing: the original product paired editor and manager workflows, while 2.0 presents a broader agent orchestration interface. Google’s documentation does not establish that the editor workflow has been abandoned.

What is Antigravity CLI?
On May 19, 2026, Google announced Antigravity CLI and said it shares the agent harness used by Antigravity 2.0. The announcement also described a transition from Gemini CLI, including a planned June 18, 2026 end date for serving consumer requests under specified arrangements while named enterprise arrangements remained unchanged. Because that effective date has passed, the announcement alone cannot confirm present access or account eligibility. Check Google’s CLI transition announcement alongside current CLI documentation and the terms for the account being used.

As accessed on October 4, 2026, Google’s homepage described the developer product as available at no charge and listed downloads for macOS, Windows, Linux, and Googlebook. That is a dated homepage snapshot, not a promise about future pricing, quotas, eligibility, or device support. Did Google Antigravity change computing forever?
That claim is not established by the available evidence. Google’s launch posts, product documentation, and homepage explain what the company built and how it intends the platform to work; they do not constitute independent, long-term evidence of permanent industry-wide impact. Antigravity is notable as a product built around agents acting across development tools, rather than code suggestions alone. Whether that approach reshapes computing over time depends on adoption, reliability, oversight, and effects beyond Google’s own product claims—questions that the cited materials do not answer.
How to evaluate an agentic coding platform
For a practical comparison, look beyond whether a tool can generate code. Consider how much of the workflow it can actually handle, what evidence it exposes, and how you can intervene or recover.
- Task autonomy: Can it plan and act across editor, terminal, and browser, or mainly suggest code in an editor?
- Human oversight: Which actions require approval, and can you inspect changes, logs, artifacts, and checkpoints?
- Asynchronous orchestration: Can you delegate background work or coordinate multiple agents and workspaces?
- Verification and reversibility: What tests are run, how are results shown, and how can you review or undo changes?
- Model and tool choice: Which models, skills, protocols, and external tools are supported under the current offering?
- Access and cost: Which platforms, account types, quotas, and terms apply now?
Google’s materials establish Antigravity’s intended workflows and listed capabilities, but they do not provide an independent comparative benchmark. A fair comparison with other coding assistants therefore requires checking the same criteria against current documentation or hands-on evaluation.
